Get a load of this... (Import Fees Banner)
Summary: sapphyres-designer-jewellery expressed frustration over eBay's misleading import fee banner appearing on their listings, which incorrectly warns buyers of fees that don't apply. john_koenig99 and transtraders echoed these concerns, noting many complaints but no action from eBay. sapphyres-designer-jewellery has attempted to counter this misinformation by highlighting 'no tariffs' in their item descriptions, and transtraders suggested using a 'NO TARIFF' image prominently in listings. The discussion reflects shared frustration and strategies for dealing with the issue.
I was looking up something I have so I can list it. My ship to location is currently set to United States so I can see what other sellers are charging to ship to the US when I make my listing. This one is not in Canada, but it's outside the US. They don't even have to click the listing to look at the big blue banner, they can see the banner while scrolling through the listings. Oh, BTW, it's a total lie. 4907 has no import fees at all. There are presently no import fees on 4907, 7118.90 and 9407 (unless it's stamps from Canada, in which case it's 50% Section 338 tariff). If they're telling my buyers there are import fees, they're lying to them and scaring them away. It's such an uphill battle and to have eBay spreading rumours by putting stuff in my listings is not helping.

·1 month agoWelcome to the club. Tons of posts about the infamous blue banner, lots of complaints. And, sadly, eBay has not done anything about it.

OP1 month agoTo see the blue banner people have to look at the listing. Now eBay is warning buyers before they even have a chance to check out my listing (and read my TOS in the description that says there are no tariffs on that item).
I was putting "no tariff" in the title of a lot of items, but kind of stopped the process a while back since I'd prefer to use my characters to describe the item as best as possible.

·1 month agoI started putting a NO TARIFF picture as my last photo on my media listings, maybe I should make it the primary photo so its the first thing they see. What a world!

OP1 month agoAdding photos to listings is a bit more tricky to do... It was easily to revise the listings to have an addendum in the title that says "tariff incl" or "no tariff". Most say tariff incl because the rules keep changing, so I don't know if there's a tariff or not. Lots of things have no tariffs, but if they're coming from Canada there's a tariff. There didn't used to be a tariff because of CUSMA, changing listings all the time is really annoying.
I was making the tariff incl part of the title but if the title was already too long, I couldn't add that (it just wouldn't revise the listing if there was no room in the title, I'm using SixBit). It already says in the listing I ship with duties paid postage, and I say that when I send out an offer. People are looking at the items, I sent out offers Thursday night and now 60 items are eligible for offers again. I send out offers when I know I'll have time to pack and ship promptly, no offers go out when I'm trying to spend as little time as possible on eBay.
I'm getting sales in the Canadian store on items that don't have tariffs from US buyers (and in the Canadian store I say nothing about tariffs at all, that store is for Canadians, they don't have tariffs since I'm in Canada, but US buyers are welcome on some of the items I sell, but not anything subject to the 50% Canadian tariff).
I recently acquired a massive hoard of inventory that's in the tariff free category, I just don't like that eBay keeps scaring away my buyers. It's so uphill to be battling this, every time I make progress at earning some trust, something (or someone) goes and ruins it for me again.
