How does Stallion vs Chitchats handle Shipping cost in terms of insurance & customs value
Summary: itolduandso shared observations regarding how Stallion Express and Chitchats handle shipping costs in terms of insurance and customs value. They noted that Stallion Express includes the shipping price in the total customs value and insurance, leading to a calculated amount based on the combined price of the item and shipping. Conversely, Chitchats considers only the item price for customs and insurance calculations. itolduandso questioned whether customs would actually charge tariffs based on the higher value with shipping included, suggesting that their current understanding is still speculative.
So I noticed Stallion Express includes the shipping price in the item price together. Chitchats on the other hand ignores the shipping price and only take the item price.
e.g. Phone sold for $100 (CAD), shipping cost is $20 (CAD)
Stallion shows the value for customs as being $120, it means the insurance is calculated on $120 and the customs value is based on this amount. Will customs eventually look at the invoice and only charge the tariffs based on the item price and not the shipping price, unlikely. If the item gets lots, the insurance coverage is for $120.
Chitchats on the other hand shows the calue for customs as being $100, so the insurance seems calculated on $100 and that's what seems to be the insurad ammount and this also seems to be the value that customs will take to calculate the tariffs.
Maybe I am mistaken but that's how I interepret it.
