Any idea how to ship to USA with this new tarriff executive order. Effective August 25th, Canada Post services will be disabled on eBay in creating shipping Labels.
Better to brainstorm this hot issue.

·11 months agoI agree you don't. I sent a prcel of new and used scrapbook punches UPS from Canada to the US. On a 250.00 US package, origin COO China, the buyer got a C.O.D. charge of 143.00....90 something dollars in duties, and the rest in brokerage fees. I paid it for the buyer through a refund. If they refuse the parcel, the seller pays it anyway. Just shut down my 20 plus year business of selling to the US. Oh well. Lesson learned.

·11 months agoThat's the problem with UPS. They pay the duties upfront for you and then ask the customers... If they refuse, they go back to the sellers to pay for it.
This is not well known by some sellers and is often the biggest problem with those carriers.

With UPS/Fedex etc online the possibility to ship with DDU and DDP was possible if you had a contract with them. Problem being the option was never in play when using eBay labels.
DDP and DDU Options
DDP and DDU options are available for the UPS Economy Service. Shippers may use only the
option(s) set forth in their contract for UPS Economy Service. Different rates and charges apply depending on
the option used.
UPS Economy packages shipped using the DDP Option will be delivered through the UPS
Worldwide Economy network, including contracted service providers. Duties, taxes, and customs clearance
fees applicable to such packages must be paid by the shipper, in addition to the rates and other charges
applicable to UPS Economy Service.
For the DDU Option duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees applicable to such packages are collected from
the consignee upon delivery.

Note: With some searches I attempted certain links are either active or disabled. Appears they are modifying on the fly so more like a work in progress going forward. From their perspective they are running on the same schedule as US customs so need to be up and running with limited down time. These changes are going to affect both small and large shippers of goods to the USA. In the case of CP it was never a thing so not really on their radar until it was.

·11 months agoRead through all the threads related to the changes on this board start to finish. There is a lot of speculation, but there is also a lot of info.
During the window between the 25th and 28th, you should still be able to purchase Tracked Packet labels from other sources like Snapship. Your choice if you want to do this, because it will cost more.
After the 29th, you have to incorporate delivery duties into your US pricing. To do this, you have to understand the rates and have access to whatever information is required by Stallion, Chit Chats, Zonos (Canada Post), etc. As others have pointed out, if you are unable to represent the duties as a separate line item (which is not possible on eBay), there might be legal liabilities to consider.
Alternatively, you can use UPS, Fedex, or other carriers that don't collect the duty for you up front, but the way they work is that they pay the duty on your behalf. If your custom refuses the package, the carrier will charge the duty and brokerage to you, since it is non-refundable. So there is a high risk of using these services.
The reality is that if either you or your customers are unwilling to absorb an increase in price of 15-35 percent, or unless some class of items you sell have a very low rate relative to their price, it won't be viable for you to sell to the USA.

The SS labels don't have the super deal on US Tracked shipping that eBay negotiated, but there are discounts.

·11 months agoCPC has stated members are still required to sign up for a Zonos account. Does this require a subscription? Will there be added costs? How do we charge this to our customers if legally it is required to be billed on a separate line like tax?
(Also Zonos has been reported to be a Utah account owned by a Trump favourable company so possible added complications... not sure if its true but pertinent.)
CPC also stated they will be rolling it out to venue integration (Etsy/eBay/etc/shortly).
Private carriers are also experiencing customs nonsense so going private does not by-pass this, it simply means the buyer pays even more.
If a buyer doesn't accept a package are sellers covered if the item is sent back?

·11 months agoIf a buyer refuses to pay the duty/tarrif and the shipment is sent back. Is the shipment covered under eBay protections - it is the buyers responsibility to pay any and all duty/tarrifs/taxes.

·11 months agoWhat I think you're asking is if the Money Back Guarantee would still apply if a buyer refuses a shipment because tariffs and other customs-related fees are due upon delivery.
This is a bit tricky to answer because the way Trump has rigged this, nothing should reach American buyers unless the tariffs have already been paid. As @ilikehockeyjerseys reminded me in post 10 and on another thread, even if you ship via UPS (or some similar service) and don't pay the tariffs at the time of shipment, UPS will advance them to the buyer and they will become part of a larger COD charge for the recipient to accept or refuse.
So my sense is that it's going to come down to how the event scan(s) frame this refusal. If anything related to customs isn't mentioned in the tracking as the reason for refusal, the Money Back Guarantee may still apply, should the buyer go the route of filing an Item Not Received case.
Also consider that if the buyer doesn't pay these COD charges, you're going to be on the hook for them, as @triplecgirl mentions in their post.
And a final consideration is that even if the Money Back Guarantee is invalidated by a buyer refusing a shipment over COD charges related to the tariffs, the buyer may still be able to file a dispute or chargeback through their payment provider. I think eBay would only be able to provide "protection" in this instance if it were pretty clear that customs charges were responsible for the refusal, but don't quote me on that.

·11 months agoUntil the 29th, nothing stopping you from shipping directly with the post office, either buy a label online or at the counter. Get a free Canada Post small business card if you don't have one to get a wee little discount. It will be more expensive than ebay labels but will work.

·11 months agoEssentially, until eBay has integrated a tariff collection & remittance system with shippers (including Canada Post) and Zonos, you will only be able to ship items to the United States if you are willing to pay any applicable tariffs.

Also, it's not legal, even in the states. So i really don't understand. The Duty/Tarrif has to show as a separate collected line. B&H Photo does a great job of pre-collecting when shipping to Canada.

·11 months agoFor the short window between the 25th and the 29th, you should be able to ship to the USA with a Tracked Packet label but you won't have access to eBay labels. Unless I misread eBay's statement, they will not stop accepting DDU (duties unpaid) packages until the 29th.
After the 29th, you need to investigate a delivery duties paid option. No carriers will accept DDU after the 29th, including Canada Post. This will include finding a way to calculate the duties and charge them to your customers ahead of time so that you can pass them to the carrier. As of now, eBay does not have any calculator built in. Nobody knows if they intend to add this or what the timeline will be.
You MIGHT be able to continue shipping with carriers like UPS and Fedex without providing the duties upfront. but you should carefully read the terms of service and investigate what your responsibilties are if you opt to use these carriers. Apparently, UPS pre-pays the duties on your behalf, so it is not delivery duties unpaid. If your customer rejects the shipment due to customs charges, the duties can be charged back to you by UPS since they already paid them on your behalf and they are non-refundable.
My hope is that maybe a month down the line we might have more clarity on what kind of options are available, but there are a lot of added complications depending on what information is needed.

·11 months agoDidn't Canada Post announce they are not going to accept DDU packages beyond Aug 25 at 6pm? That's the cut off time for pickup in the evening. Or maybe I am mixing up with announcement of European post services for shipments to US.

·11 months agoThe last day Canada Post will accept DDU to the USA is the 28th. 29th is DDP only.
25th is the date that eBay will no longer allow Canada Post USA labels to be printed from eBay labels. This assumes eBay has not altered that deadline since Canada Post announced DDP services.

·11 months agoYou can ship if you prepay tariffs. Just charge the buyers tariffs and choose DDP services, other than Canada Post. What's the problem. You may lose 3 out of 4 buyers but there still may be buyers who are ready to pay tariffs. Depends on what you sell..
