I got mail!
Summary: reallynicestamps shared the variety of mail they received, including real estate flyers and a GST rebate cheque, noting that four out of six items were useful. fergua3 questioned the early presence of GST cheques, mentioning they received only a recycling schedule. Others in the discussion expressed similar experiences with mail delays and sorting issues, especially due to a previous postal strike. Several participants, like vintagenorth and timelesstechtrove, noted a preponderance of junk mail or delayed important documents. As the discussion unfolds, participants discussed mail delivery inconsistencies post-strike, with some mail taking longer than expected to arrive, while others found delivery times improving. needsmorerobots humorously noted things got back to normal with junk mail filling their box.
At 4pm today we got :
A real estate flyer
A flyer about the Crystal Pool referedum, which we can't vote in (wrong municipality)
An invoice for our health insurance
A begging letter addressed to the couple we bought our house from in 2014
A catalogue for Continuing Education at University of Victoria
And my GST rebate cheque.
Four out of six useful items!

·1 year agoThings are surely scrambled, two days ago I got the latest bill for my credit card, yesterday I got the one from the beginning of december for the same card...... so "Last in First" out is what's been happening in reality.

·1 year agoSame here. Caused some confusion at first, DH thought we had missed paying a bill. Switched over to online bills during strike, may wait until after May and switch back to receiving paper bills once fear of strike over.

·1 year agoover a month since the strike ended and things are still a mess. It's taking forever to get any lettermail. Even things mailed recently are taking over twice as long or more to arrive, if they arrive at all. Still waiting for 2 very important letters that are long, long overdue. It was 3 letters but one finally came yesterday; it should have been here 2 weeks ago at the latest.
An item i purchased from the US on Jan 3 arrived in Toronto (Gateway) on the 13th. Nothing since. 9 days without moving or even a scan. It's getting to the point that CP can't deliver a package from A to B anymore.
Not sure how they are planning on competing with all the other delivery services around now. I used to only buy from sellers that shipped via Canada Post (or the postal system if they were international). Now i try to avoid using CP as i know it will take forever to get here, if it arrives at all.

·1 year agoWell, I finally got my outstanding order from the strike era this week. I got some old mail that should've received in December. But overall, it's up to date now.
The funny part is that, in the mean time, I've been getting orders that I placed very late in December, and early January, all pretty much delivered in record time. So, at least for me, I can't really rant anymore about CP.

·1 year agoI've been receiving mail, but today I know everything is back to normal at Canada Post after I found nothing but junk mail stuffing my letter box.
Everything is going to be okay. 👍

·1 year agoI was away last week, and upon returning home, I got the pleasent surprise that two of my three delayed orders caught in the strike fiasco got delivered. One from the US and the other from Spain. Now I am waiting for a final order to arrive from India.

·1 year agoAll 4 international packages i was waiting for have been delivered now. I received them in the revese order they were sent to me. That last one i picked up today, was shipped to me Nov 12.
Have received a total of 2 pieces of real letter mail and one flyer. Still waiting on more mail that has not come yet.

OP1 year agoI've had a few FB on parcels shipped during and after the strike.
And won an INR by giving the tracking number promptly.... the parcel was delivered, late, but within 24 hours of the Claim.

·1 year agoBetter- an untracked shipment to the US sent Dec 18, just got positive FB.
Apparently letters are getting delivered in a reasonably timely manner.

·1 year agoI've been getting bills, all along, today got one from end of November, one from early December.
I have approval customers (stamp folks will know what that is) so I have stuff in transit all the time. I've received a few "during strike" mailed ones over the last couple PO working days. Today I got one from NS to me in ON that was mailed on December 20th. (oversized lettermail $3.43 size).
I reopened my store Yesterday, so 5 things went out today, only one tracked, I've updated my messages to buyers to include the notation that things will be slower so extra patience will be required. Will see how that goes!

·1 year agoFinally got my water bill....Generated Nov 24, 2024. Still waiting on belated cable bills. Unsure if they were ever sent.

·1 year agoIt appears letter mail is starting to get caught up. Just got my Dec Rogers billed. Generated Dec 22, 2024. 3.5 weeks so guess that is an improvement or CP has been saving mail for a rainy day?

·1 year agoYeah "caught up"......
I was holding 9 orders for Canada that accumulated during the strike. These were orders that ship via Lettermail (tape/cd).
I dropped these off at my local durgstore/postal outlet on Wedneday Dec 18th. So far I have not had any indicator that they were delivered. I had one inquiry about the status (I sent all buyers a message on the 19th that their orders were finally on the way).
This morning a 6:07am I got a notice of an INR request on one of them. At 10:47 I had another notice from eBay that the request had been closed by the buyer who added this message "Holy **bleep**, it just arrived! Thanks!!".
I had pretty much given up on those orders, hopefully the rest will start getting delivered. I suspect that the stuff mailed immediately after CP resumed service arrived at Gateway in Mississauga and might not have even been unloaded or if it was they just got placed in a giant pile and forgotten about while they attempted to get caught up.

They "should" be working FIFO (first in, first out) but sure doesn't seem like it. Especially with letter mail. I believe all my older letter stuff has finally arrived. Due to the fact very few users now use feedback, you now normally only hear anything when/if there is a problem. As it is oft suggested, you don't want to poke the bear when a customer happens to be good with being patient.
Used my coupon on the 5th. Only shows label created. No follow up. From other users Ont/Que get in a couple of days. AB/BC seems to be substantially longer. As per delivery standards should be 4/5 days normally. 12 total days is a little excessive for expedited parcels in Canada.
Inbound Canpar is arriving from QC to AB in 4 days but takes 3 to 5 days for delivery. (Just shows out for delivery but doesn't arrive). It could be residential parcel service with couriers may be lowest on priority or is still in overload mode and fifo is not being used.
As a side initiating a trace from past experience suddenly stuff magically either shows movement or or instant delivery.
Thinking out loud here but should the increase in letter rates included an improvement to service? Hmmmmm🤔
As per always, your results may vary.

·1 year agoNothing close to "FIFO" at work in CP, particularly after the strike mess...
The outstanding order I have from India shows that it arrived in YYZ on Dec 4th, so one week and change before the strike ended. It's been over 6 weeks now and no sign of it.

·1 year agoOne other thing that may be in play is we might be having carriers (not familiar) doing other routes for a short time. Due to the strike if they had scheduled holidays that time could not be taken during but had to be modified to after. But again, who knows the real truth. Neighbour spotted a driver the other day that got out of their vehicle looking very confused.

·1 year agoAll I have received is junk mail; flyers and municipal **bleep**. Not the credit card I've been waiting a month for that expired today, or even a bill.

·1 year agoAll I have received since the strike ended was two Birthday Cards both mailed in Ireland before the strike started. And one flyer advertising a new dentist in town. All of those came before Christmas. Nothing since.

·1 year agoYour mail was better than mine! All I got were 4 real estate advertising flyers and a calendar from an MPP (not mine).
Our house reno is now in week 12 or maybe 13. Hopefully, all will be finished in a week or so. Then I can get back to selling on eBay. I wonder if they will miss seeing me at my local Home Depot?

·1 year agoi got my first piece of mail today too......a recycling schedule for the city of Toronto. That's it.
GST rebate cheques don't come out until Jan 3....how come you got yours so earlly?
john_koenig99
·1 year agoI was wondering that too. One of my sons got his on Monday. None for the rest of the family.
