I think the tariffs are here
Summary: The discussion centers on the impact of tariffs on sales between the USA and Canada, with rosscd57 noting a decline in their US sales and the additional costs incurred when purchasing from the USA. Others, like naturelover55 and chicweb, share concerns about unspecified shipping costs on listings, citing how this might contribute to reduced sales. marnotom! suggests that factors other than tariffs, like high shipping costs, might affect US sales. reallynicestamps observes a shift in sales patterns, with international sales surpassing US sales. Finally, john_koenig99 expresses a decision to avoid US sellers due to these issues.
I have not had a sale in the USA since the tariffs and deminumus were established. I have continued to sell in Canada - not a lot, but enough to keep me happy.
I just purchased a vintage radio from the USA and was informed by the carrier (DSL) that I would have to pay the Canadian tariff on the purchase before they would deliver it. The radio cost me $60 Canadian dollars and the tarrif was $15 Canadian dollars - exactly 25%. So I paid it as I needed that exact radio and it was a cheap buy. Albeit the International Shipping costs are outrageous. So it is not likely that I will be doing anymore business with eBay.com in the USA.
So if that is happening fairly regularly, I figure Canadians may become much more wary of spending and extra $25 per cent on eBay stuff and I am thinking, perhaps Canadians will start using eBay Canada more regularly.
Just a thought.
PS. By the way: there was not any type of information or communication on this tariff grab from eBay - .Ca or .Com.

·3 weeks agoMy August sales are slightly better than usual for a summer month, but I do notice that my overseas sales are greater than those to the USA.
I do note in all my Descriptions that "US buyers may be subject to the Trump Tariff" although I understand that at the moment my usual product (stamps) are not subject to tariff.
On another hobby site the ratio of US to international to domestic sales remains fairly steady, but it is very US oriented.
The eIS has been very helpful for high value international shipping. They take care of the details.
I am disappointed to learn that UPS does not accept postage stamps.

·3 weeks agoCanadian stamps are subject to Section 338 tariff, the 50% one. I've noticed with Stallion I'm not paying tariffs on 9704 items anymore, but I was paying the other tariffs (IEEPA and the last one that was temporary) previously.

·3 weeks agoAs far as your sales go, your lack of sales to the US may be due to other factors than tariffs. How do tariffs apply to items made in the United States?
Some of your listings don't even seem to offer shipping to the United States, while others have pretty hefty shipping charges, so that's something to keep in mind.
As far as your recent purchase goes, was GST charged on the amount with tariffs included?

·3 weeks agoWhen I search US listings as a Canadian buyer they all say "Shipping Not Specified From The United States". You literally have to click on the listing to see what they charge for shipping to Canada...
I'm guessing they're doing this same thing for US buyers looking at Canadian listings.
This is a massive disadvantage. Does anyone know why Ebay is hiding the shipping cost like this?

·3 weeks agoI noticed this and it's very very bad.
Sales are down this month, and I'm guessing this has something to do with it. Since 1st of september, I've seen a major drop in sales.
Tariff + Back to school + this bug/problem can all be related to the sudden drop.
