International buyer is refusing to pay import fees to pick up his item
Summary: centanni experienced an issue where a sports memorabilia item sold to a buyer in Germany was repeatedly refused by the buyer due to unpaid import fees despite multiple delivery attempts by UPS. Now facing high return shipping costs from UPS, centanni inquires about the buyer's entitlement to a refund and their own rights. 2bigbugs suggests recalling the shipment without refusal to avoid record but their response is deemed irrelevant by mrdutch1001 due to the age of the thread, originally started in 2020. kh-phdan announces the closure of the thread because of its age and invites participants to start a new discussion on the topic if needed.
Hello,
I sold a sports memorabilia item to a buyer in Germany. The item was sent via UPS. It turns out UPS made 5 separate attempts at delivering contacting the receiver to A) get the import fees paid B) deliver the item but the buyer is refusing. Now, UPS is "offering" to return the item back to me from Germany at a cost that is higher than what I sold it for! Is the buyer entitled to a refund since he is choosing not to accept the item? What are my rights?
Thank you
Anthony (Whitby, ON)

·1 year agoThe only way to get around this is if you know there are incoming charges that are inflated then you call the seller and ask them to recall the shipment. There would be no record of you refusing anything and they would be on the hook for a refund.
