I've just sent off my 4th parcel to the US using Zonos, 1st one already delivered.
Summary: musicyouneed shared their experience with using Zonos to ship parcels to the US, highlighting that after an initial learning curve, the system works well. They noticed that while there are no tariffs, the shipping costs are about $4 higher than through eBay, which they've incorporated into their pricing. byto253 appreciates the adaptability in business, while john_koenig99 and mrdutch1001 express dissatisfaction due to tariffs affecting their products. clemowbooks clarified the role of tariffs for sellers and buyers in different countries. Concerns about privacy, increased costs, and logistics were discussed by several participants, including easoss and eriekexouwyrn0. Overall, sellers are adapting but face challenges with costs and logistics.
I've just sent off my 4th parcel tonight to the US using Zonos, 1st one already delivered. I was so lost at the begining, once you get the hang of it, not too bad, a lot more time to get the zonos code then snap ship. No tariffs but shipping is about $4 more than through ebay, just added it to the shipping cost. Good luck everybody through this new way of doing business.

·1 year agoShipped 4 items that have cleared and been received by US customers about a week + ago. It took zonos quite a while to finally give a notice for billing, the way it shows on dashboard is a bit of a cluster eff imo, as it shows at a glance what the item is declared/worth + the total tariff fee, almost died inside for a second(as I ship items worth 100cad, so it showed 400.00+, I thought they made a mistake and charged my card for that much lol) until I found the correct spot to look via their email which is:
To view upcoming charges:
Go to Dashboard →Invoices
Click Generate pending shipments report in the top right.
So far so good. Except for current strike. When will it end! But at least it's not mid christmas season
I should note i sell on Etsy (occasionally here), but our seller forums over there are basically being shutdown and I find the seller forum here to have very valuble info on the current state of cross border shipping, no matter the platform you sell on.

OP1 year agoI'm sending off my 8th parcel to the US. 3 have been delivered and 5 are in transit. I am very lucky that what I sell there are no tariffs and I add this picture to my pictures of item. Sales are OK, slow but 1 or 2 sales a day, so I will take it.

·1 year agoAbout the same here. Have sold 4 items to the US so far. 2 have been delivered with no problems as far as I can tell. I am getting ready to send my first Video Game so will see how that goes. Zonos says there is no duties/tarriffs so should be ok.

·1 year agoI just signed up for Zonos. I completed the required information for my package and there were $0.00 owing for customs and duites because the price was under $20 USD and the category and particulars is movies produced inside North America.
I received my receipt and declaration ID, but what do I do now?
Do I go to the Post Office?
I don't usually buy postage from the Post Office, so I am confused as to what other Ebayers do in terms of using your regular couriers with Zonos or do you pay Canada Post counter prices?
dinomitesales
·1 year agoYes, you can go to the post office and purchase the label in person - they will ask for the Declaration ID and type it into the computer to complete the transaction. Bring your Canada Post Solutions for Small Business Card (or number; or provide the phone number associated with your SfSB account) to get the basic small business discount from Canada Post.
You can also purchase the shipping label online using Canada Post's online label-printing platform called "SnapShip". It will prompt you to enter the Declaration ID during the process.
movie_galaxy
·1 year agoOh, I didn't realize that was the process. I will end up paying about $12 to send the package at the Canada Post counter. If Ebay reinstates the Canada Post shipping option in the near future, can I use Zonos with Ebay instead of going to the counter? Because the Canada Post counter rates aren't affordable for me.
musicyouneed
OP1 year agoI had to raise my prices by $4 to cover the postage. Oh well.
sapphyres-designer-jewellery
·1 year agoI raised my prices about $4 too (to cover tariffs and the customs broker fee with Stallion). It's not quite enough money to completely cover tariffs, depends what they buy... but it will cover tariffs on a lot of things I sell valued under $30.

·1 year agoNo one knows the answer to this question. eBay would have to both turn on Canada Post labels to the States AND add integration with Zonos to their platform. With all eyes turned to eIS right now I doubt they're putting any significant effort into eBay Labels, unfortunately.
As others have said: raise your USA shipping prices if you must use Canada Post. If nothing sells with the increased shipping rates, then, well... join the club lol.

·1 year agoWhen you complete the order on the Zonos app you will get a receipt. The receipt includes a confirmation number formatted in both a QR code and text.
You can create a label on Snapship. You will be prompted to add the number to the label. Add the number. That's it. You don't have to drop it off at a post office. You can drop it in a postal box. If you drop it at a post office, they won't ask you for Zonos because Zonos is already on the label.
You only need to give it in person if you are purchasing the label directly from the post office. They need it to create the label.
Also, I am unsure about what you're referring to with it being under $20 USD, but as far as I understand it that wouldn't be relevant for movies/music/text. They count as informational materials, so they are duty/tariff free.

·1 year agoyesterday was my very first experience.Used Zonos Prepay to prepare declaration ID,got email with a code.Went to PO provided with my business acount number to get discount ,then with code and it was all.I'm using my own postage ( have plenty of Canadian mint stamps),so practically everything was as used to be,just now have to get declaration ID for each packet.Likely ,there are no tariffs on postcards and probably on most of the stamps,no fees as well.It used to be apr. a week to deliver tracked packetto USA,in recent month apr 2-3 weeks, not sure how long it would take now.Would also add, that have very positive experience to get clear answers from Zonos on all of my questions.

·1 year agoJust a heads up for anybody who uses "discount stamps" to pay for parcels.
The way the computer system is set up for a Canada Post outlet requires them to choose stamps as the payment method prior to scanning your Zonos barcode. It's very easy for a cashier to forget to choose this because 99.9999 percent of people don't use stamps for parcels.
If they forget to punch in stamps before scanning Zonos and have to go back, you need to make another Zonos barcode.
This won't be a problem for a seller sending $0 duty items. You can pull your phone out and create a new declaration in 30 seconds. But I assume this might be a problem if you paid duties on the Zonos.
I try not to be obnoxious about it, but you have to remind them before they scan the zonos to make sure they selected the correct payment method.

·1 year agoThis is a very good point.
This was all implemented very quickly and I'm sure things like this weren't even thought of by any of the developers. Hopefully this is fixed in a future RPOS (Canada Post retail computer software) update.

·1 year agoNo Tariffs but how much did you pay in duties?....

·1 year agoItried to sign up but since I don't have a reliable cell phone to receive text confirmation, I had to give up and use UPS for my first bulky US sale this month.

·1 year agoI have a few questions, are you able to print the labels online, and just drop them off normally at the Post Office? Is the large bar above the listing warning about tariffs gone? Does the customer know that you have pre-paid the tariffs? Is the amount of tariff calculated based on your listed price? or does it include shipping? Do you need a registered business to get setup with Canada Post and ZonosThanks
musicyouneed
OP1 year agoYes, I can print my labels and just drop them off. I would like to print them from my zebra machine but until I figure it out it will be on 8 by 11 paper. On my items there are no tariffs, however, the shipping has gone up $4 so there might as well be a tariff. I just raised my shipping cost $4 and I put on my listings that any tariffs have been included in the shipping cost as the shipping cost has gone up. I have a registered business with Canada Post.
Now if I was selling items that involve tariffs, I would not be selling to the US. Not worth it to me to make a couple of bucks on each item for all the hassle.

·1 year agoDid you pay remittance fee of 1.99 or 3.99 ?
musicyouneed
OP1 year agoNo, no fees.

·1 year agoDid Zonos charged you 1.99 or 3.99 fee as stated on CP and Zonos sites ?

·1 year agoCongrats on getting 4 packages to the US. I've had about the same (and it's a bit of a challenge getting buyers to trust me that there will be no tariffs since I ship with Stallion and take care of getting it into the US... however the tariff is part of their shipping cost (so I'm not really paying it, I'm just charging more in shipping so the buyer pays it). I've had a few complaints about the shipping costs, but there's not much I can do about it. Even without tariffs there's still a brokerage fee to be paid to Stallion.

·1 year agowhen you sell mixed used items and over 50% of the items are made in China items, as normal stuff lying around us at home are made in China, then the $4 goes to almost $50 extra costs on a $100 item and to get that $50 from a buyer you have to ask for a lot more to get that $50 after paying fees etc.
All this could work for some sellers selling some items which have no tariffs, but for the majority of sellers it can't work
easoss
·1 year agoI'm absolutely not comfortable in giving private information to a couple of tech bros at Zonos. And a $4 increase on smaller items isn't going to increase sales in the long run. Already working on my exit at the end of the year.
john_koenig99
·1 year agoWell, my listings are all of tariffable (is that even a word?) items, so I will never have the pleasure of experiencing this "new way of doing business".
At least not until eBay sets up their eIS program here, and the tariffs are all paid by the seller, as it should be, and not prepaid by yours truly.
mrdutch1001
·1 year agoAlthough 99% of my items are made either in Canada or USA, I will not support the manipulative coercive extortionist manner in which all this tariff business is conducted, so I will not be shipping to the USA until this changes (or until h*ll freezes over."). I will in due time, resume listing (for shipping within Canada only), but I am currently busy putting my efforts elsewhere to acquire more potential Canadian buyers.

·1 year agoI keep thinking of the saying "play stupid games win stupid prizes". Congratulating yourself because your items got through and it's an extra $4 each time is the epitome of a "stupid prize".
mrdutch1001
·1 year agoAmen to that! I am not playing Trump's stupid revenge tariff game and I am not paying for the prize, so let those who wanna play that game, pay the price...I'll just "pocket the savings" for not having to pay all those extra costs and fees...
clemowbooks
·1 year agoand the tariffs are all paid by the seller, as it should be, and not prepaid by yours truly.
Umm. no.
US residents pay US taxes, duties, and tariffs.
We foreigners don't.
Canadians pay Canadian taxes, duties, and tariffs, and the money goes to Canadian goverment coffers to pay for education, infrastructure, defence, medical care , etc.
Merchants don't pay sales taxes, customers do.
Even "we pay the sale tax " sales, a popular promotion, are really just a small price reduction. The merchant has found they do better with that 13% to 15% reduction than when they offer 25% or more off.
All discounts and sales are head games.
