Method For Return Shipping Label US To Canada With "Returned Goods" Customs Option
Summary: buyandsell4profit is seeking assistance in creating return shipping labels from the US to Canada that include the 'Returned Goods' customs option to avoid unnecessary duties. They mention the difficulty of finding this option on online label websites and express concerns about paying duties upfront. femmefan1946 suggests marking the package with 'RETURNED GOODS', while lotzofuniquegoodies advises ensuring the customer labels the package as Canadian goods returning and includes references to the original tracking number. buyandsell4profit identifies a solution in using Shippo, which permits full customization of the customs form, resolving the issue.
Hello, I am having trouble figuring out how to make return shipping labels with accurate customs form to use for US customers to return items to me in Canada, avoiding unlawful duties. I'm not supposed to pay duties on returns and I don't want to pay for them and ask for reimbursment after the fact. The internet shipping label websites don't show a "returned goods" option to select under shipment information. What's the method for correctly filling out a 2976-R customs form and corresponding shipping label as a Canadian resident making a label for someone in US to send it to me.

·1 year agoI think the OP meant for the customer to return properly. If you have good communication with the buyer best way is to have them mark on box Canadian goods returning. Also should be marked in notes section of customs form and if possible the original tracking number as a reference. No guarantees but increases your odds it will return with no taxes owing. Processing charge is another story.

OP1 year agoI very much appreciate the answers. This is for me to return properly. The customer can fill out the duties form at the post office using the actual form in person but obviously I don't have the ability to do that. The USPS customs form 2976-R gives you a specific box to check if you're returning something that says "returned goods" but on the label websites there is no option other than "Merchandise" "Documents" or "Other", which is included as a distinctly separate reason on the 2976-R form implying that it's not the right option.

That was the awesome thing about using Shippo in the past. You could easily mark shipment return to sender or destroy. Really depends on value. At times a return is just not worth the write off costs and return shipping.

OP1 year agolotz solved my problem. Shippo shows you the full customs form and allows you to edit it with all the options.
