From February 17 to April 27, 2025, Canada Post Solutions for SfSB customers without a commercial parcel agreement may be eligible to receive an exclusive new discount.
What you need to know
Expedited Parcel Discount:
Lightweight (for items under 500g) – discount of up to a 70% saving off counter rates where customers may see shipments as low as $3.50.
10% to 20% off some current shipping rates when shipping an item that is up to 5kg.
Tracked Packet USA Discount:
Up to 46% discount for Tracked Packet USA (Valid until June 25, 2025).

A few notes from me:
- The first line says "customers without a commercial parcel agreement may be eligible to receive an exclusive new discount". I don't know why they chose to use the word "may" - there is no clarification on why anyone would be excluded from the promotion. I would expect anyone reading this would be eligible for the discount provided you have a SfSB account.
- Obviously the highest discounts (they call out $3.50) are going to be for very light items shipping within your own city or local area, but even still this could theoretically be cheaper than Lettermail... definitely seems like it should be cheaper than Expedited Lite (and good up to 500g).
- It's not clear if this is going to be available for labels purchased online, although I can't imagine why it wouldn't; whether or not it will be available to external shipping label platforms like eBay Labels is also unclear - we'll have to wait to see what eBay shows on Monday. This could be a "SnapShip only" promotion, or it could just be baked into Canada Post's API in which case the discounts should also show on eBay.
- The "up to 46% discount for Tracked Packet USA" isn't all that relevant to us, as I'm fairly certain the eBay negotiated Tracked Packet rates we get through eBay Labels is greater than 46%. For example, the "counter rate" of a Tracked Packet under 100g is $13.80 - 46% off of that would be $7.45, but eBay Labels is giving it to us for $6.35 (not factoring in fuel surcharge, of course).
- Unclear if this stacks with the current 10% off promotion for postage purchased at the post office counter, currently in effect until the end of February.

This is not an eBay sale, and normally I would either use stamps or Expedited since I have an SfSB account.
Where can I find and print out an Expedited Lite label from the Canada Post or Snap Ship sites?
Or is this an exclusive eBay service?

·1 year agoI have to admit I'm also finding the various discounts confusing as an over the counter, stamps on the box kinda guy.
At the moment, I am consistently enjoying an extra 10% off expedited Canada parcels. (I don't know about US ones as I rarely send stuff bigger than 2KG to the US these days).
At the moment, I'm saving an extra about 50c off each of the 100/250g tracked packet USA packages. I've not figured out their additional discount formula, so each Monday I find out what the new rate is (because the fuel surcharge changes on Monday) and I keep that till the next week. (I quit using small packet air to the US some time ago so no experience there)
I don't get any discounts on tracked or small packet air to international destinations, but I rarely send anything tracked overseas either.
It is a pain to know before I get up there what I'm going to owe (I always bring a wee pack of various rate stamps to make up differences) but I really shouldn't be complaining about saving extra $$$ I guess 😉

When the promo was first announced there was a card at the counter basically advertising the promo. Unsure if it was intended for card holder only or not. That card at counter is now MIA. Because I purchase most of my labels via ebay it is difficult to see when the promo is being applied. I've received both credits for discounted postage at the beginning, revised charges when process by ebay and charges that were exactly the same as when purchased.
Purchased a tracked parcel to USA on 4th. Quoted 9.00. Charge arrived on Ap 6th at 8.96. Possibly fuel adjustment? Who knows. Because charges are never itemized difficult to know what the rate is based on.
@dinomitesales Can you shed any light on this promotion and how it is supposed to work? It did get an official announcement from eBay 20 days after you posted about it. Folks are now getting the mailers less than 2 weeks before it is due to end.

·1 year agoYes. I have been seeing bigger discounts (nothing as low as $3.50 though) for purchases of expedited parcel at the counter with my SfSB card for the last couple of months. I did find it a bit odd that it took Canada Post until last week to let SfSB members know about the discounts -- not by email (I'm on their list) but by sending me a postcard. I guess they wanted to increase lettermail volumes.

·1 year agoThe discount is automatically applied when you use your card, the extra is not shown separately. I did some checking when this thread was started in February and saw a bigger discount %age applied for expedited in Canada. For tracked packet going elsewhere in the world I use ebay for labels.
Side note: Fuel surcharge is down 4% for domestic and down 2% for international starting April 10 until April 27.

·1 year agoI have been seeing really good Expedited lite and Tracked Packet USA rates with ebay labels.
Looks like the discounts applied to the label at the time of purchase and not later on now. So what you see is what it is. First week i was seeing a different price displayed and charged the discounted rate later.
Ex Lite I have been seeing as low as $6.22 Ottawa to Gatineau area and even stuff out west has been a bit cheaper then the usual. Seeing more labels in the $7 ranges then before with Ex Lite. The more rural destinations are $8-9 when not near the major hubs.
Tracket Packet to USA for 100grams is $6.74 and 200grams is $7.45
Would be nice if these prices were to stick around for good!

If you look at my previous post there appeared to be no pattern to the discounts. In both of my cases they came off at time of billing with a bit of delay due eBay's irregular billing cycle of labels. Because these discounts seem to be in constant flux and the fact that eBay is unable to provide a detailed itemized list of charges/discounts for each transaction, the only thing you can do is monitor before you print to confirm a discount and then patiently wait for the final charge to arrive. PayPal was tied to a sellers solutions account so you saw the discount. Same with Shippo and when you are signed in to CP. eBay labels is the only 1 of the bunch that I know of that is unable to detail a transaction like is supposed to be legally required for all day to day purchase receipts. Goods and services.
I am still trying to rationalize why 2 identical tracked packages (cubing was not applied and weights were in same range) to the USA or via Expedited lite sent a day apart can vary by cents when created.
100 to 200 grams Tracked Jan to now: 1. 8.02 2. 8.05. Pre discount promo.
Same weight package 100 to 200 grams. Expedited Lite to BC. 8.02. 2 days later 8.00 to Qc. In theory or if everything is working properly the charge to QC should have been substantially higher with fuel surcharge.
Personally my preference would be consistency that included a detailed receipt.

·1 year agoI would love proper recipts so I can claim the tax with actual proof that i paid the tax. Not bothering to claim my tax this year which is annoying becasue I was auditted last tax season for GST/HST and expect to be on a radar again and not having proof would be bad lol.

·1 year agoMy understanding (which could be wrong) is that we CAN'T claim the tax because nothing eBay provides us indicates that the tax was charged. The USA packages aren't affected obviously, but it would be nice to have the breakdown for the Canadian ones. For non-expedited lite, I'd suggest comparing eBay prices with other offerings. You may be able to find the same (or better) final price, for the same service, with the tax broken out correctly.

In some countries, merchants are obligated to display prices with the tax included. In other countries, such as the US and Canada, product prices are displayed without tax. The sales tax is added later during checkout. Example. Shipping charges.
Importance of Tax Invoice under GST
It not only evidences supply of goods or services or both, but is also an essential document for the recipient to avail Input Tax Credit (ITC). A registered person cannot avail input tax credit unless he is in possession of a tax invoice or a debit note.
Transparency for Tax Amounts: Showing the pre-tax price and then applying taxes at checkout allows consumers to see how much tax they are paying. This can help them understand the breakdown of costs and their contributions to public revenues.
There are limited circumstances where tax is built into the price. eBay would not be 1 of them.
Note: Info above is from my own basic research on the subject. I am not a tax expert. Does eBay have a loophole regarding the above not being correctly in place that we are unaware of? That would be the only explanation I can rationally imagine for their refusal to address with transparency.
For anyone that purchases Canadian shipping labels with eBay Labels vs directly using Fedex, UPS or offsite like Puro/Canpar/Chit Chats etc how do the receipts compare? Are individual charges/tax itemized?

·1 year agoI used Chit Chats during the strike, they had a spead sheet you could download that showed the break out of the tax, but didnt show buyer name or address directly but it allows you to click on the ebay order and cross reference. So 100% better then ebay since it has the tax broken out.

The promo appears to be very random in nature.
As it was pointed out previously, it appears if delivery is in the same metropolitan area the discount increases. Personally have not been able to confirm.

Has anyone been seeing the discount on ALL Canada Regular. Expedited, Xpresspost (feb 18 - April 27) and USA Tracked (Feb 18 to June 25). or are you seeing shipments being discounted on a random basis? Out of 5 qualifying shipments discount was only appeared on 2 when they billed.
@jtg204 According to the CP FAQ the discount is NOT supposed to apply to Expedited Lite. I had 1 of those where there was no discount when it was billed through.

OP1 year agoI was able to play around with this during some downtime at work the other day.
What this disount is doing is basically making anything under 500g (volumetric equivalent is taken into consideration) a flat $3.50 plus applicable taxes/surcharges. Doesn't matter if it's 50 g or 450 g, it gets taken down to $3.50.
The main restriction is that it only applies if both the sender and recipient are located in the same major urban centre. Canada Post has 21 main processing facilities that are designated as "major urban centres" - St. John's, Halifax, Charlottetown, Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton, Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa/Gatineau, Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Windsor, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Victoria. The $3.50 discount will apply to all of these locations except for all maritime locations and for some reason it also doesn't apply to Kitchener/London/Windsor.
So basically, if you live in Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa/Gatineau, Toronto, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, or Victoria (or the immediate outlying areas) AND the person you're sending to is also in the same city (or immediately outlying area) then you will only pay $3.50 for anything under 500 g.
So, this will have the most utility for those of you in the larger cities like Toronto/Montreal/Ottawa.
There are some strange outliers that I was able to find; for example, here in Manitoba our second largest city is Brandon but there is no main processing facility in Brandon. From what I understand all the mail from Brandon gets sent to Winnipeg anyway. That being said, I can get the $3.50 discount if both the sender and recipient are both in Brandon, but it doesn't apply if it's going from Brandon --> Winnipeg or vice versa.
If you're not in one of the cities I specified above, you can test for your specific city using the rate calculator here. Enter your address in the "Sending From" spot, then pick a different random address in your city for the destination address. Set the size and weight to something that would be under 500g (I was using 24 x 18 x 3 cm and 300g) and hit "view rates". Then scroll down to where it says "Solutions for Small Business members save more!" and hit the "See Savings" button. If it then shows Expedited Parcel with a cost under $5 then you know it works in your city.

Canada Post site $16.50 (cheaper then ebay labels for same service, but lite is still better)
Ebay labels expedited parcel $16.87
Service I USED was expedited lite for $8.38
So really not useful to me as ebay labels pricing is WAY better still

·1 year agoAt 9:15am ET this morning, I attempted to purchase on the Canada Post website an Expedited shipping label for a 92 gram 22x22x1cm shipment from here in rural Ontario to Sydney NS....$13.81!! I'll stick with $2.61 Lettermail.
I have yet to receive any kind of notice from CP about this new discount.

I just tested by signing into my small business account and using CP's postage calculator. Top screenshot is for a local shipment. Bottom is for a tracked parcel. Expedited Canada is excellent. Tracked USA would be better using eBay labels. Of critical note the minimum length measurement with calculator (haven't testing creating a label in CP) is 22 cm. If you enter 21 you receive an error message for both expedited and tracked. Tracked intl is also much higher at cp and required a min. measurement of 23 cm for length. "Usually" create a label is not so grouchy when it comes to measurement vs the CP/eBay Tools. Your results may vary.

·1 year agoAfter doing some more testing of my own, it appears the great rates only apply for certain regions. Anything in northern Ontario, even sending within the same city, are having the full rates applied. Southern Ontario appears to receive the huge discounts for much of the region.
As an example, Sudbury to Sudbury (a few kilometers within the main city) shows as $13.71. Testing from Skydome to Orillia (148 km) is showing as $5.01. Same price going from St. Catherines to Orillia (230 km).
At least it'll help some people, but not me.

·1 year agoInstead of full rates, I should have said less discounted. The rates for people outside the major centers and for packages going a further distance still seem to be roughly 30% discounted instead of 10% ish. For most of us eBay labels and other options will likely be better, but I'm sure lots of people will put them to good use all the same.

I tried a test label using Snapship. Ottawa to downtown Toronto doesn't show any discount beyond what is normal. 499g 24x19x2 CM would be 11.64 before tax (or 9.2 without the fuel surcharge). $13.15 after tax in Ontario. 99g and 199g are the same price.
eBay labels is charging $12.15 all in to Toronto for anything under 499g. 199 or under is $8.16 via Expedited Lite.
I don't use Snapship anymore because eBay labels is cheaper, so it is possible that I don't qualify for these discounts based on my savings level being the lowest one.

OP1 year agoOkay so it looks like this is only available to people buying their labels directly through Canada Post (SnapShip or at the retail counter) and unfortunately it isn’t available through eBay. I assume this is because when we buy labels through eBay we’re just doing it through their own personal commercial account, which doesn’t apply for the discount. Would be curious to see if the discounts carry over to sites like Shippo where you link your own personal SfSB account.
Based on the information I’m seeing so far they may be limiting the discounted rates to shipments within your own “region” (based on Canada Post’s definition of regions), while also excluding rural postal codes. Will require some more testing.
Tracked Packet USA rates are always going to be cheaper through eBay, so no sense even concerning yourself with those discounts, as I indicated in the main post.

·1 year agoAn interesting update from today. I was charged by Ebay for the shipping labels printed yesterday.
The price displayed was 8.11 for 250 g, but finally I was charged only 7.45!
The same for 100 g - the price displayed was 7.27, but the final charge was 6.74!
So it seems we really got that additional discount! 😃

·1 year agoI tested a few Canadian addresses this morning on the Canada Post site (as a level 1 SfSB account) and I'm seeing a 28% discount for expedited. Useful for non-ebay sales.
Have seen no announcements (I'm on the SfSB mailing list) from Canada Post.

·1 year agoThe issue is the up-to designation and vague terms. So I won't get my hopes up because it sounds too good to be true.
They also blur the lines a bit if the rates advertised in the post don't include the fuel surcharge. My guess would be the 500g would be a similar service to Expedited Lite. Raising Expedited Lite to 500g, or introducing a similar servivce with a 500g limit could be a game changer if that is the case.
Ultimately, if this results in people being able to get rates similar to eBay Tracked Packet and Expedited Lite at the counter, where they can use discount postage, I can see this being a big deal for sellers who do that.

If there was a bit of ummm consistency/transparent explanation to actual amount charged that would be extremely helpful.
In testing the system now it appears those discounts HAVE been turned on. (eBay Calculator Tool and calculated shipping.) The 400 gram shipment that would have been 15.59 is now showing 11.00.
The formerly 7.22 tracked to USA is now 7.29. 8.05 updated is 8.29.

I got 21 orders from a buyer (21 payments). I put all orders into one package, got 1 tracking number.
Since CP allows to combine 5 orders only, the tracking was marked as valid 5 times, and 16 times as not valid.
The result? I got 16 defects and will loose my TRS Plus status. 😉

·1 year agoYou can only put Canada Post Tracking on five orders? There's no limit on USPS as far as I know (I think I've had like 15 in one day, all paid separately). For CP I don't generally upload the tracking unless there's a need... like an INR. What happens if your buyer does an INR on 16 orders?

I occasionally send a tracked shipment with stamps and have to go to the PO to get the label.
When I do, I put the tracking number manually on to my eBay Orders list.
From what you say the problem is CP and not eBay?
I don't know if it would work for you, but I would suggest first doing that by cut and paste and then contacting Customer Service ON SOCIAL MEDIA of course and having them take a look at your List.
It might work.

·1 year agoShipments were a few days a part so not weeks. Important to note distance involved. Standard expedited is based on distance. With discrepancies BC shouldn't be the same as E. Ont/QC.

·1 year agoI haven't really seen any difference yet, but I'll probably wait until midnight to buy labels and check prices. I do know that Shipping Chimp has some insanely low prices for up to 500g (often equal to or cheaper than expedited lite within the same province, but more for greater distances). I wonder if they, along with eBay's expedited lite, were early tests for what Canada Post is going to be rolling out?

Interesting offering. It does sound very cloak and dagger mysterious! Needs to be a way for anyone hoping to test, a way to test by pre-purchasing. In trying to test with the stand alone calculator (was being hopelessly optimistic) it shows a 450 gram package from my address to my address at 15.59 Reg. Parcel. Tracked parcel same weight 22.59. Testing signed in to my small business account gives an error message for both Canada and USA.

PS I've yet to figure out how the 10% off works, my calculations are different than the "machines" so far....but I've only had a couple to test it so far....makes it a pain to have to stick more on at the post office (so far I've thought I get a wee bit more off than the system is expecting)

OP1 year agoSo when the clerk is at the screen where they enter the amount of pre-applied postage, they’re doing so against the pre-discount price. So if you apply 10% less postage to your parcel, and the clerk enters the actual amount of postage you’ve applied, then technically the transaction is going to proceed with you still owing money on the label.
I don’t think Canada Post even thought about how this would work for those who pay for their parcels entirely with pre-applied postage.

·1 year agoWas this only sent to employees at the post offices? I can't find anything on the Canada Post website about this.
Hopefully it will apply to labels purchased online and not just counter rates. It would be a headache for everyone to have small business account holders showing up to the counter with dozens of packages to be labeled and paid for.

·1 year agoOh I sincerely hope they don't require waiting in line at the counter for these discounts... there's a chatty Kathy at the post office I use and it takes her 20-30 minutes to do half a dozen parcels for someone who comes in completely unprepared (which is a lot of times). I put stamps on mine, so I can usually get away with dropping things off and leaving.

·1 year agoMy local Postal Outlet has an in-house printed notice on their counter about February discounts.
I haven't paid much attention (stamps on the envelope, again) but I wonder if specific Outlets get special deals from time to time?
My PO is a PharmaSave.
