Summary: The discussion centers around a new update from eBay Canada regarding shipping discounts for Canada Post when purchasing through eBay Labels. As of April 27, all Canada Post shipping rates via eBay Labels will upgrade from Small Business Level 1 to Level 4 discounts. This change has prompted mixed reactions among participants, with some expressing enthusiasm for the potential savings and others seeking further clarification on how these new discounts will apply to their existing processes with other platforms like Shippo. Various participants share their experiences and questions, including tracking number issues and how the discounts might affect their listings, with hopes for similar adjustments across other shipping platforms. Additionally, there are various logistical concerns such as pricing uncertainties, issues with automatic numbers entered as tracking codes, and the possibility of adopting these new rates across different systems. Overall, the thread reflects an active interest in the new discounts and its implications for sellers' shipping practices.
Saw this email this morning, thought I'd share it if anyone may be interested and didn't get the email, decent discount:
Upcoming rate changes for Canada Post shipping on eBay Labels
eBay Canada is updating the rates available to sellers printing Canada Post shipping through eBay Labels.

I think it was an issue with Canada Post which probablly caused the problem.
From the Canada Post site yesterday (June 1) while checking tracking on some items I got "We're experiencing technical difficulties. Thank you for your patience as we fix the problem." Since they had issues (mabye because of recent changes) I think it affected Shippo, eBay labels and anywhere using Canada Post. Seems to be okay now.
When you buy a Small Packets label through eBay, they automatically fill in their own 100% numerical tracking number as opposed to the actual "UR" number. Does anyone know if the ebay number actually updates or should I be manually changing them all to "UR"?
That number they generate is some type of internal number and has nothing to do with tracking. To show tracking for small packet on ebay, you need to enter the url number you enter it yourself. To add it go to 'edit' next to the 'tracking number' that ebay is showing you then click on 'add additional tracking'.
Is their a level 4 calculator somewhere? Do customers see this discount? Don't sell much here mostly amazon fba but might try build up ebay again.
Trying a book on snapship shows $10.04+fuel,tax I guess around 14 expedited (30x23x2cm) 560 grams. Ebay shows 14.87 when I click on listing and check shipping so what would level 4 discount be?
I had a hiccup with ebay labels this weekend. I had an order for 40 cards, 3 cards and 4 cards. All from the same buyer (40 is a limit per invoice). Not sure why they paid seperate for the 3 and 4 cards but alas, I decided to send with the expedited light method as it was less then 200grams.
Naturally I selected the 40 card order to create the label with so I wouldnt have to copy tracking to 40 items manually (which is a glitch 100% of the time and highly irritating!). I tried to create said label, and it wanted to default to me creating an expedited parcl not a lite one. So i selected lite as the dimensions I was entering were within the limit and weight etc. I proceeded to create the label and it gave me a failed error saying I was not charged and to try again, so I did. Same result failed and didnt give me a label to print. I found it interesting that both tiems it defaulted to expedited parcel and NOT expedited lite with default mesaurments at 10x7x1 and 40grams 1 per line. I wonder if it was 40 items on the invoice to cause this issue? This could be an issue for card sellers going forward if we cant create a label becasue it assumes whatvever its assuming. But alas there is more.
So I went to check the order in my awaiting to ship section and its missing. It had been assigned 2 tracking numbers and marked as shipped, which neither tracking number I had a label for and on my labels page there is no label showing (I will be keeping an eye to see if i am charged for either of these non existent labels). So i had to create the label in the end with one of the other 2 smaller orders. I marked the 40 card order as "not shipped" and both of these random tracking numbers disapeared, so stange. I then uploaded the proper one, what a gong show!
Oh and stil no recipts lol, and I am not sure if there is fuel with this service, as the price never went down at midnight like snap ship does! I even waited til like 3am to try again for my label on the smaller order and no difference in price. This service is all over the map for pricing becasue of tax and random base prices that we have no knowledge of what they are!
For anyone wondering I am charging $9 flat rate for this service (from Ottawa) and my range of labels is anywhere from $7.47 to $8.75 for a really rural address in Manitoba (cheaper to BC $7.47 then this destination in MB). My $9 seems to cover all labels, make a few pennies on some to offset the ones where I might have to pay more, should even out in the end. Keeping in mind, suplies are not free and ebay charges a fee on shipping, so the pennies help with that stuff.

The times I have used eBay Labels recently I've just printed from the screen. If I check my regular email in gmail I am given the option to reprint the label. Did your original label show up that way? I've yet to see any kind of email in eBay regardings labels.

Yeah I have no problem printing the label, when there is one lol! but this one failed and never created a label (nothing shows in my labels section) but I had a fake tracking number on the order and when I tried to create a label again because it failed the first time, it failed again and added a second tracking number to the order. VERY odd!
I dont get emails from ebay about creating labels? I didnt even know that was a thing! What kind of info is on this email lol?

Header flag is Your Label is Ready.
The above screenshot is from a label 9 days ago. Did a quick test and it still lets me reprint. I know there can be a time limit but not sure how long it is for this version.

That's interesting. I wonder if it's using the individual item weights rather than what you enter for the label? More disturbingly, maybe they changed something so the label is only usable in the Collectibles category (even though it's apparently supposed to be for sports cards and things too which I think are in Sporting Goods?) Has anyone made an Expedited Lite label today for a collectable in another category?

I have flat rate, so no item weight entered. When I opened the ebay labels it assumed 10x7x1 for package and 40grams 1 gram per item. It assumes 10x7x1 for minimum package every time i have opened labels and it always assumes 1gram for the item when you dont enter anything.
A new try this morning: Italy, 150 g. (untracked).

Follow up from Shippo staff regarding a matching offer of level 4. Unfortunately the news is not good. See below.
Until the rates can be matched by Shippo it will be a sellers decision as to which method for shipping labels will be your preference(or a combination there of). Hopefully sooner vs later the option for sellers to accurately show the discounted rate(if they so choose) will be an availible choice with eBay. Secondly eBay will be able to provide an actual receipt for anyone that requires it with the fuel and any applicable prov. taxes.

Note: The calculator is technically available but only to sellers. The option to specify a US zipcode is still not an option so there may be variances based on final location.
Yes lotz I believe this another eBay only promo (like the Expedited Lite). I have still been using Shippo for my US tracked packages as the rate is only a few cents different and I prefer Shippo's invoicing, receipts and return label capabilities. I have been using eBay labels for my within Canada shipments (over 200 grams) as there has been a substantial savings there. I've yet to try out the Expedited Lite, even though I sold two items today that were set up with it, BUT one was bought by US buyer (so couldn't use it), the other was being combined with larger item (so again couldn't try it).
As you say it's the sellers decision which way to go. But I do like that we have a bit more options now with eBay's shipping promos right now.

A few of us had gotten similar follow up directly from Shippo after the original eBay announcement. I was pretty sure that they would not be able to match but was trying to remain optimistic. Without buyers being able to know there is a discount available it will mean sellers having to refund, if they so choose. It would be best if this information was known by buyers BEFORE they hit the checkout that rate shown was best available. Too many variables with a floating fuel surcharge and staggered service level discounts. The customs form in Shippo is leaps ahead of the 1 available in eBay Labels.
As a side for recent personal tests with eBay Labels, payment was processed in either 2,3 or 4 days. It gives a seller a feeling of having their funds held hostage to cover these charges. Something that contradicts what MP stated when it was first released.
Have to agree, I wish the payment processing of the labels was immediate (from the processed payment itself) instead of a few days later. So far I've been lucky (knock on wood) and funds have come out of payments processing on newer sales because I had staggered payments (I do daily payouts), because I still do auctions I try to end most around the same time so it's almost like weekly anyways.
Also I agree, customs form is awesome on Shippo, as are the receipts and invoices (bookkeeper for 20 years I'm a paper and receipts kinda gal).
Also agree, would be nice if calculated shipping showed the lower rates (though it does with Expedite Lite I think) but since they haven't been I've been selfishly keeping the savings for myself...to help cover my always growing costs these days.
Shippo sets their own business policies. I don't think it's realistic to expect them to adopt eBay policies. Level 4 and Exp Lite have only just happened. They affect the Canadian market which is minimal compared to the USA. I haven't heard of any 3rd party shipping compnaies in the US implementing eBay label pricing so why should Shippo? Fedex and UPS have sharpened their pencils. They are worth incorporating into our listings.
In Shippo's defense
1. For a recent USA shipment valued at $500 I used them to insure it and send it Tracked Packet USA. As @lotzofuniquegoodies points out neither CP EX Lite or eBay Tr Pkt USA can do that.
2. They are also able to provide a USPS return label for your customer's use from the USA to Canada. Can't get that one on eBay either.
3. They have the best service on the planet. You get a human being on the phone or on chat within minutes who knows what you are talking about even if it's complicated. Can't get that on "certain places" either.
These are worthwhile considerations. If you ship an item to the US that requires insurance or can possibly be returned let's give credit where credit is due.
Note: Regarding Shipsurance, they have a new limit for Signature Required of $500Cad. Here are some more details; "Signature confirmation will be automatically added to orders over $500 in value. This can be manually removed as long as the order does not meet any of the criteria listed below" Computers (and similar electronics listed below - ADULT SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION REQUIRED) Laptops tablets Desktop Computers iPads similar electronics Mobile telephones Cell Phones Smart Phones Similar electronics Jewelry valued at $1000 or more (ADULT SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION REQUIRED) necklaces, earrings, watches, rings, bracelets, broaches, etc Parcels or freight with a value of $10,000 (ADULT SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION REQUIRED)
Here are two labels to Norway (250g). Definitely, Shippo decided not to adjust at all - so ... bye, bye, Shippo!
@hansatrade
The recurring word I keep getting from Shippo is they are looking into it. They've been looking into it since April 27th.
I processed a parcel to N. Ab earlier today. Rate with Shippo would be 20.87 by Expedited Level 1. The rate with eBay labels was 16.00 by Xpresspost or 15.92 by Expedited. Upgraded for the massive 8 cent difference. The only real differences between the 2 options in Shippo's favour are instant billing with a receipt, a better customs form for Internationally shipping + the option to buy more insurance if you require above listed value. (You can throw in timely customer service...Usually.)
I have also noticed if you go with eBay Labels it is slightly more difficult to access recent Shippo shipments if you need to compare anything. In the past if you created a shipment with Shippo you could go to the order details and get directly to Shippo. Now that option is MIA.
I checked shippo, just shows my level 3 discount. I am still using my own account over ebay labels as I would like to try and grow my own account to level 4 (got to level 3 in 8months) so I have hope lol. I would like to be in control if anything goes wrong with a delivery and not need to run through ebay for it to be fixed.
I would like to be in control if anything goes wrong with a delivery and not need to run through ebay for it to be fixed.
Shippo or Ebay, you get exactly the same Canada Post shipping label - except the Ebay's one is cheaper.
I use snapship on the Canada Post site most of the time. I use shippo for the odd time when I go to the USA and drop mail there as I can get a discounted rate for USPS postage vs at the counter, but I do have my Canada Post account linked as well.
If you use Ebay labels, its ebays account not your own, and if you need to make a claim with Canada Post for a lost parcel etc, the refund would go to ebay and not you directly. Shippo your account is linked to it same as snapship. That is my understanding.
Went to purchase a expedited label for a small package 20cm x 20cm x 4cm and 600g today. QC to ON, still cost over $16.00. Nothing crazy. They write 'up to 32%' but the actual discount was 20%. Not sure when the full 32% is applied but i feel kinda fooled. I waited 2 days to ship that package today and get the discount, they made it look like a big thing and it's maybe a $0.50 discount on what we had already. Would be curious to know when the discount is fully applied, cause here it did not change much.
I sent one off this morning, 4x4x4 box 160g (boy do we need a small parcel rate) ON to QC and it cost ~$12.50 with a discount of 27%. I'm not clear if the $12.50 includes tax (and hopefully will be broken out in the monthly tax invoice) or if it's already tax discounted.
I'd really like to see an option not to safe drop. Does anyone know if writing it in on the label would be honored since it's a free option?
I'd really like to see an option not to safe drop. Does anyone know if writing it in on the label would be honored since it's a free option?
You can write it on the label or the box if you want, but the letter carrier is under no obligation to follow the instructions.
When it's actually added as a proper feature on the label then when the carrier goes to scan the package as out for delivery it will actually give them a notice on their handheld computer that it can't be safe dropped. So in a scenario in which you just wrote it on the box/label you have to 1) hope they even see your writing, and 2) if they do see it, hope that they're kind enough to act on it (since it's actually more work to card the item and bring it back to the depot than it would be to just mark it as 'Delivered' and leave it on the doorstep).
For this reason, and others that people have mentioned, I'm hoping that Shippo absorbs these discounts as well so we can utilize the full functionality of the shipping labels. Or eBay adds more options to the current Labels system. Currently it's pretty much useless for most non-US International orders considering there isn't even a space to put a Tax ID number.
The UP to 32% or whatever % they show is for international destinations (europe etc).
Canada is very minimal %, each level gets a bit better maybe 7% per level so maybe max 25-30%, but once you take the discount off the base price you add fuel surcharge % to that and it brings you back to the starting point, then add tax, its pretty much a wash lol
USA has 15cent-20 savings from each level on a small packet (so level 1 and 4 would see a total of like 80cents savings)
The key word is UP to, not guarenteed on the service you select
Has anyone processed a shipment today and received the NEW level 4 discount using Shippo? I wonder if to get that discount it needs to be tied to a specific CP account number similar to eBay Labels.

Quite strange that Shippo did not adjust, since it's eBay Canada’s official third-party label printing solution.

Figured that was what was going on. Some kind of opting in to have access to the new maximum Level 4 discount. They just forgot to pass that on to us. Similar to eBay Labels CP account attached to eBay. Last message I got from my contact at Shipo was a request for the comparison of the 2 rates. (eBay/Shippo). What you determined I expect to hear back in the am to confirm the same. Hopefully with this way of doing things this will cause no issues for claims etc going forward, seeing as Shippo will the account on record vs the seller.

Pehaps I am just missing something but how does that link about Shippo on eBay seller central say that Shippo will be the account holder on record and not the seller? To me, the information on there sounds like the info for the program we have had through Shippo for years.
To me, this statement says that we will still retain on our oaccounts...
Before you can print your first Shippo label, you’ll need to associate your Shippo account with a carrier account such as Canada Post, FedEx, or UPS.

I'm not sure where that link was discovered but as per Shippo staff the new rate level 4 rate was supposed to be activated on the 27th. That did not happen. The rate actually kicked in on eBay labels a few days early. Shippo is still showing my linked level 1 rate that I connected approx 5 years ago. Shippo asked me for a current comparison of the 2 rates showing which I have provided. Waiting for follow up from them. Any seller that has been using Shippo was able link their own CP account with their discount level when they enrolled originally. The only way to override that would be having a different account number to connect. For anyone that is lucky enough to qualify for level 4 they are best off to keep using their linked CP account.
-Lotz
As a side concern there still has been no way for sellers using a level 4 rate to show buyers that is what is in play. There is the eBay tool that sellers can use but buyers do not have access. If a buyer does not know of a possible discount for shipping when they check an item most likely they will go elsewhere. (Note. The discounts vary substantially between services. A 1 size fits all discount rate by the seller is not an option for any seller wanted to offer multiple services)
Does anyone know if eBay Canada offers "ShipCover" insurance on Tracked Packet USA and INT like the US site offers on USPS? It says in the help section that it does but if you click the link you end up on the US site and you get their rates..
Printed a label today through eBay Labels: 80 g Small Packet USA. Came out to $8.63, which is the correct Level 4 discount with appropriate fuel surcharge, so it seems like the rates have gone into effect a little early. Checked Shippo too and still only getting a Level 1 discount there.
Hadn't printed an eBay Small Packet label in a while so kind of annoying that it still enteres that transaction number or whatever it is as the "tracking number". However, I noticed that if I go into the order details I can just hit "Edit" next to the number it automatically enters and change it to the UR number we all know tracks just fine through eBay.

8.63 sounds really good - it's not much more expensive than ChitChats. We will see if Shippo adjusts tomorrow.
Does anyone have a ballpark for what a level 4 tracked packet USA label costs for the 0-100 gram tier and the 101-250 gram tier?
The "up to" makes it vague. On eBay's printing tool, I currently see 9.16 for 100g, and 11.21 for 250g. I assume these aren't level 4 rates, since it is not the 27th yet.
With savings level 2 on Snap Ship, I see 9.31 for 100g, and 11.42 for 250g.
Chit Chats is creeping up, but still is only about $8.00 for the average package of a similar size to both those price points. It would be a lot more convenient to use Canada Post, but saving as much as $4 for a package adds up quickly.

I tested with a previous 500 gram parcel from Calgary to California. Discount shows as 30 %. Old charge level 1 was just around 16.31. With discount it would be in the neighbourhood of 14.00. Will vary slightly if your parcel is affected by cubing.
According to CP Counter rate, same parcel by Small packet air would be 15.07. With Level 4 the total would be 13.79 (8 % discount)

I did up a label today for 200 grams with Tracked Packet USA and the price was $11.21 through eBay (as you saw) and $11.42 through Shippo (that is my usual price, and I'm at Level 3).
It looks like eBay labels started earlier than the 27th (they are usually much higher than that $11.21). I think that must already be Level 4 price. I'm curious to see if Shippo will go down after the 27th though.
I can't see it getting close to your $8.00 Chit Chats so you have to weigh the value to you. For me my Canada Post outfit is a few minutes away (I could walk it if feeling ambitious) so that is always my go to (after printing the labels of course).
Shipping via Canada Post is more convenient than Chit Chats. 99/100 items that I sell are bubble mailers or small parcels that fit in red street boxes. I have Canadian Lettermail orders daily, so the marginal time of depositing a USA order sent via Canada Post is nothing.
The thing is that $2-$3 an order adds up significantly for the volume of orders I have to the USA. I'm fortunate that Chit Chats locations in my city are in areas near other things, so I can usually pawn off my packages on someone else running an errand. Canada Post would still be better from a workflow POV, because I would not have to deal with arranging an impending Chit Chats dropoff every 3 business days.
I would love to switch to Tracked Packet, but do not think raising rates to switch to Tracked Packet is an option. If I were to switch, I'd have to eat the 2-3 dollars. My USA shipping rate is already below what it actually costs when considering supplies and insurance. If you also consider eBay fees on the shipment portion (which is a grey area), they are well below the market value fo what I pay. I still have USA buyers who are astounded that it costs me $8.99 CAD to ship them a bubble mailer.
switching to Tracked Packet is definitely an option...
Canadian sellers have NEVER been able to compete with the cheaper USA postal rates. That is a fact of life....
USA buyers have never been able to understand or comphrehend the fact that other countries(except maybe China) do not have their same/similar cheaper shipping costs. USA buyes don't want to see or comprehend the realities of the higher postal rates from other countries...
However, IF buyers genuinely want an item they will pay whatever it takes to get it...
Media under 30 or so dollars is highly competitive when it comes to US buyers. Most titles have more sellers available to the US than buyers. Margins are also very slim. If you sell something like that, and you can either keep your price down by 2-4 dollars using Chit Chats, or increase your margin by 2-4 dollars, that is a huge difference on lower priced order.
For something that is highly collectible and niche, there are very few buyers, but also almost no sellers. That's where what you're describing might come into play. One of the few buyers who is a big enough collector of media to want an item priced in the hundreds of dollars isn't going to be swayed by a $4 difference in shipping. That's not applicable to common and highly competitive items though, which is what most people who sell media sell.
Saw this email this morning, thought I'd share it if anyone may be interested and didn't get the email, decent discount:

The new rates have been turned on at eBay Labels but not as of yet (April 25/2023) with Shippo. In confirming with the eBay calculator it still displays the counter rates. For a 100 gram parcel from Calgary to Brockville Ont system is quoting 24.80 (Expedited) with the calculator. At eBay Labels the rate shows as 19.75. (As far as I know ebay labels does not display the specific discount just the applicable %). For shippo the rate would be 24.70 less the 1.85 savings for a total of 22.85. Difference of $3. 40 between the 2 systems. Not really chicken feed. For anyone wanting to pass on the savings to their buyers this would require refunding until the buyer can see the new discounted rate.
I think the shipping calculator always showed counter rates because there would be no way of (eBay) knowing what method seller would use (ie. going to the counter directly, buying from Canada Post site, Shippo, or other) so they show highest amount since it would have to be the same price for everybody using the calculator regardless. The few dollars difference I used as my handling charge (boxes, bubble wrap, etc.) since I have no handling charge included in the price.
A few months back my printer maintenance box died and I had no printer for a few days until new one came in. I ended up having to go to post office and use those counter rates so I was thankful that was the amount the buyer had paid. You just never know! (And let's face it we need to cover some of those fees on shipping!)
Thanks for the heads up the promotion started early (today), it was advertised as starting on the 27th, interesteing it is showing 2 days early.

The explanation has always been that eBay shows the counter rate. Just how it is. The confusion on that would be then why does expedited show up as an option for Canada. It is not available without a discount. (On a few past occasions, being in the line up I've had customers in front of me mailing parcels in Canada. Was able to let them use my card to get the expedited service. They were most appreciative.) (Disclaimer. This all depends on how cooperative the clerk is in letting you use. Not all will permit. )
As someone else suggested/explained there should be a way to turn on the discounted view. Apparently that is available to US buyers. If you use the eBay tool i mentioned in my Fedex discussion (designed for sellers....not buyers) there is a tab to compare counter rates vs discounted rates for both Fedex and CP so it is doable.
Until this is figured out sellers are going to have to somehow express that rate buyer sees is not really accurate. (if they so choose). Would be easier if this were properly fixed and then buyers would be more likely to buy vs running away when they see whackadoodle CP shipping amounts.

Are we certain that the over the counter SFSB discount hasn't changed as well?
On Friday I had a U.S. Tracked Packet with a couple of booklets of stamps that I had priced out in me wee old noggin as approximately $45 with Fuel Surcharge + GST. And then, my receipt showed this:
Where else could that SFSB savings of $7.24 on a $45.00 purchase have come from? It certainly wasn't the stamps...
Interesting!! No idea. I haven't purchased parcel postage at the post office with my card in ages. The only change I was aware of was online discount matched counter discount effective a few months ago.

Admittedly, it's a different vibe out here in the T0L 0H0. As sick as it sounds, I actually look forward to my trips to the Post Office. 🤗
Nevertheless, these increased SFSB discounts should be very good news for any other sellers with no practical access to online shipping alternatives, especially rural.

The savings you're seeing at retail (over the counter) are from an update about a month ago. Previously, Canada Post had a separate "Level 1" savings depending on whether you purchased your labels online or at the post office (the online one was always greater). But about a month back they just merged the two, so now evereyone with a SFSB account is getting the Level 1 Online discount, which is why you're seeing an increased discount at the counter.
Level 1 discount is still the highest discount you can get at the post office counter though, so if you want these new Level 4 discounts you'll have to purchase your postage online through eBay (or online through Canada Post SnapShip/EST if you spend more than $7500 annually on postage).

As a niche seller, I have rarely hit the threshold necessary to benefit from those CP Level 4 discounts @dinomitesales . And yet, for over 20 years I have been a substantial and steady Canada Post customer.
For any other Sellers routinely falling through that same 'not-small-but-not-big-enough' service level crack, I am celebrating this particular Canada Post change because so far it *seems* like we will all benefit, regardless of business scale or locale.
As someone who has been using Canada Post for "everything postal related" for the past 60 years and have seen the huge increases in postal costs and the many changes in postal services, and as an online seller for the past 20+ years, it is exceedingly appreciated to get this most welcomed discount on CP costs here on eBay. This is one of the few positive things that eBay has given to us eBay sellers in recent times...

Well, it happened again @dinomitesales ... a U.S. Tracked Packet to AR starting at $17.70 CAD, just closed at $11.79 (including the Fuel Surcharge).
That's upwards of $5.00 CAD savings over-the-counter with only my SFSB card. Whether Level 1 or Level 4, it's still a healthy discount without the need for another middleware label app.
Looks like I have some International Shipping rates to update...
I use flat rate shipping for everything on eBay and my other selling sites and my buyers see the shipping cost as whatever I quote it as in my listings...I rarely have to refund as my shipping costs have been very well refined over the years...I may choose to adjust my shipping costs from time to time to reflect savings but otherwise it's buyer's choice...pay my price or not.....

@mrdutch1001
Too many variables at play so have always used calculated shipping for my items. And then I only need to edit for flat rate on the few I do have applicable. A fully functional flexible calculator should not be rocket science for eBay. They've been available with purolator/dhl/ups/Fedex since the mid 80ies/early 90ies for business applications.
I just heard from our Carriers team, and they confirmed that eBay Canada users will receive the new Canada Post rates starting on April 27 as announced by eBay.
If you are utilizing the Canada Post account through eBay, those rates should show what you will be charged when utilizing the Canada Post account through eBay.
Of course. The one time eBay does something useful for sellers lol is something i already have. You can litterally just sign up for a level 4 small buisness discount anytime for free. Oh well, good for everyone else I guess.

@joels-retrocade
For many sellers level 4 is a dream world scenario. Took me forever to get and then quickly lose to meet the requirement.
Yea it takes a lot of work to maintain lol; they started me out directly into level 4 because of how many packages I ship out. By the time I signed up I was already pretty established. I am happy for all the small sellers! This is a big win indeed for all Canadian eBayers! Now I could potentially use eBay labels; time to buy a printer lol

Now to get a confirmation from eBay the discounted rate can be available to the buyer vs having a necessity to refund to appease buyers. As noted in a previous post if the buyers do not see the specific discount they will run to the hills. And the discount varies based on the particular service so you cannot use a 1 size fits all discount in settings.

I have to agree that the one size fits all discount does not work well. The US site does give sellers the choise of having the buyer see the commercial discounted rate or the retail rate. We should have that option here. I know a lot of US use the retail rate to cover handling fees and the fvf on shipping. That should be the seller's decision on how they want to handle that.
Sellers should also have the option of deciding if they want to offer the discounted rate on different services. A seller may choose to show Fedex discounted rate and Canada Post retail rates. The discounted rates for postal rates and courier rates are separate on .com.
I can't imagine it would; SnapShip is Canada Post's in-house label printing platform, I don't know why they would automatically just give everyone a Level 4 discount. It would make the discount tiers meaningless.
I have to imagine this is a deal that eBay worked out with Canada Post directly and specifically for their platform. Kudos to them, this is actually pretty huge news.
Where was it announced that Shippo would also be getting Level 4 discounts? Usually they're quick to send out email updates but I haven't seen anything.

I got that confirmation in a private message from Shippo team. I think (hope) all CP needs to apply the discounted rate is the confirmation the order comes from Ebay, which is the case in printing both labels - through Ebay or Shippo.
BTW, Shippo MUST adjust, otherwise people will massively leave.

Does that mean that we get the level 4 discount in Shippo but the purchases are still credited to our Canada Post account? Because that would be great if we could work on moving up the tiers while also receiving the level 4 discount!

I am not sure how it will work. I am charged by Shippo, once a week, or after I spend 100 dollars. I mainly ship through ChitChats, but still keep the Level 2 at CP. I don't think I will switch to CP, but I am glad it goes into a right direction 😉
Hi-I am trying this out as I usually just print via Canada Post but the prices seemed attractive. I don't see a place for the IOSS number for shipments to Europe so don't know how to continue. Do I put it in the box for the HS code?
Also on a small packet shipment before this one I got a weird type of tracking number that didn't show on the label-not the UR number but it seems to be an ebay generated one and I don't know if it is valid or if I should still record the UR numbers as tracking for the states.
eBay does not enter the UR # as a tracking number...if you want the correct tracking number you will need to add it...and yes it then shows there are 2 numbers for that package, but when purchasing shipping labels for Small Packet through eBay, the number that eBay automatically enters IS NOT A Tracking number, and we have to ignore that one, so at best simply message your buyer with the correct tracking number.
For shipments to the UK and EU countries, an HS code is NOT same as the required lOSS number.
The HS code identifies the category of the item/classification of the item...The IOSS number indicates VAT has been paid.
Yes I understand the difference between the HS code and the IOSS number but there is no place to enter the IOSS number to state that the VAT has been paid. Where do I add that as my buyers will be charged twice.?
Yes, Everything is computerized in the IOSS world and writing on the label does not count. If it is not electronically sent my buyers have been and will be charged twice- and I get the backlash and can't blame them. I have gone through this several times with different receiving countries in Europe. If I can't add the IOSS numbers to the electronic label to countries in Europe I will have to use the CP Snapship which seems to work most of the time for these types of mailings.
Is the issue witht he Small packet putting in some random tracking number still an issue?
I'm a level 3 not sure I would jump ship for small packets to save 10cents per and lose all the hard work to build my own account up. And then be at the mercy of ebay if an issue was to arrise with a shipment.
But good news overall, worth checking on larger parcels to save with for myself
Also have same question about is there a recipt with the tax paid breakdown for people who can claim ITC's
Many sellers, myself included, don't bother with tracking on low value items.
And we include our minimal shipping costs in the asking price, because a 99c card with an $11.00 shipping charge is a turnoff for buyers, while including the (actual 92c) Lettermail charge and calling the $1.99 listing Free Shipping is a selling point.
If a single 99c item goes "missing", we refund, Block, shrug and move on to pack several dozen other Free Shipping sales.
And if we have a $500 item which means using a Tracked service, we charge $512+ to cover the cost of the service, or raise our Best Office acceptance parameter to allow for the tracked shipping.
Yea, I used to ship letter mail to the USA until I had a bunch returned by customs due to the merchandise thing! and my post office feels all letters (I use a paper envelope not bubble) and knows who I am, so that doesnt work so well either!
Closest red box is 15 mins from my small town, so also not great! lol
Canada Post specifically states that goods/merchandise DO NOT qualify as letter mail to the USA and International destinations and thusly have ever right to reject/returrn any non-conforming envelopes disguised as lettermail.
Accepting, adjusting and adapting to shipping via Small Packet/Tracked Packet to the USA and International destinations is the solution.

Yeah and I already have, I was just replying to someone telling me I should mail with letterpost, which I used to pre July 2022. I don't anymore since the recent crackdown with the letter post and customs, also the UR code has won me 2 INR claims so thats a bonus.
Would be great if I didnt live so far away from a chit chats loacation but thats also not an option as thats 30-35 mins each way and the minimal savings isnt worth it, so small packets it is. If someone wants my item the will pay the price, if not then nothing much I can do at that point!
I also have no alternative to Canada Post so therefore am really grateful for this new pact with eBay and Canada Post. I was already using Tracked Packet instead of Small Packet as the rates were not significantly different as of the past 6 months.
Canadian sellers have never been able to compete with the cheaper USA postal rates but over the years the gap has been closing and especially here on eBay whereby USA sellers use(that very despised by Canadian buyers)GSP aka eBay's International shipping
...and yes If someone really wants an item they will pay the price...buyers' choice...
Will the rate shown to buyers be adjusted to show the level 4 discounts? This is really important to know.
Yes - This is very important to know! - I currently discount my shipping to account for the discounted rate I get via Shippo so I will need to adjust otherwise this will actually end up costing me.
@devon@ebay Can you confirm if listings will automatically update to reflect the discounted shipping proce on the 27th?

@ericsells75 The new discounts would reflect when a seller attempts to buy labels on eBay, they would then be charged the new L4 rates.
This is a NEWS! I wonder if it applies to Shippo rates, too..? 🤔
I wondered the same thing, I use Shippo because it was lower (I'm not sure if I'm at Level 3 or 4 in my CP account) this looks good though and I know if you hit "purchase label" here it shows eBay's rate on same page as "Go to Shippo" so I am going to look. This doesn't kick in until later this week though (27th).

OP3 years agoI think it was an issue with Canada Post which probablly caused the problem.

·3 years agoWhen you buy a Small Packets label through eBay, they automatically fill in their own 100% numerical tracking number as opposed to the actual "UR" number. Does anyone know if the ebay number actually updates or should I be manually changing them all to "UR"?
pjcdn2005
·3 years agoThat number they generate is some type of internal number and has nothing to do with tracking. To show tracking for small packet on ebay, you need to enter the url number you enter it yourself. To add it go to 'edit' next to the 'tracking number' that ebay is showing you then click on 'add additional tracking'.

Trying a book on snapship shows $10.04+fuel,tax I guess around 14 expedited (30x23x2cm) 560 grams. Ebay shows 14.87 when I click on listing and check shipping so what would level 4 discount be?

·3 years agoI had a hiccup with ebay labels this weekend.

·3 years agoThat's interesting.

·3 years agoI have flat rate, so no item weight entered. When I opened the ebay labels it assumed 10x7x1 for package and 40grams 1 gram per item. It assumes 10x7x1 for minimum package every time i have opened labels and it always assumes 1gram for the item when you dont enter anything.

Secondly eBay will be able to provide an actual receipt for anyone that requires it with the fuel and any applicable prov. taxes.
-Lotz
Note: The calculator is technically available but only to sellers. The option to specify a US zipcode is still not an option so there may be variances based on final location.
msau4301
OP3 years agoYes lotz I believe this another eBay only promo (like the Expedited Lite).

-Lotz
msau4301
OP3 years agoHave to agree, I wish the payment processing of the labels was immediate (from the processed payment itself) instead of a few days later.

·3 years agoShippo sets their own business policies.

If you use Ebay labels, its ebays account not your own, and if you need to make a claim with Canada Post for a lost parcel etc, the refund would go to ebay and not you directly. Shippo your account is linked to it same as snapship. That is my understanding.

·3 years agoWent to purchase a expedited label for a small package 20cm x 20cm x 4cm and 600g today. Would be curious to know when the discount is fully applied, cause here it did not change much.
flipistics
·3 years agoI sent one off this morning, 4x4x4 box 160g (boy do we need a small parcel rate) ON to QC and it cost ~$12.50 with a discount of 27%. I'm not clear if the $12.50 includes tax (and hopefully will be broken out in the monthly tax invoice) or if it's already tax discounted.
I'd really like to see an option not to safe drop. Does anyone know if writing it in on the label would be honored since it's a free option?
dinomitesales
·3 years agoYou can write it on the label or the box if you want, but the letter carrier is under no obligation to follow the instructions.
Currently it's pretty much useless for most non-US International orders considering there isn't even a space to put a Tax ID number.
regs43
·3 years agoThe UP to 32% or whatever % they show is for international destinations (europe etc).

Before you can print your first Shippo label, you’ll need to associate your Shippo account with a carrier account such as Canada Post, FedEx, or UPS.

·3 years ago@pjcdn2005
@dinomitesales

·3 years agoPrinted a label today through eBay Labels: 80 g Small Packet USA.

·3 years agoDoes anyone have a ballpark for what a level 4 tracked packet USA label costs for the 0-100 gram tier and the 101-250 gram tier?
The "up to" makes it vague. On eBay's printing tool, I currently see 9.16 for 100g, and 11.21 for 250g. I assume these aren't level 4 rates, since it is not the 27th yet.
With savings level 2 on Snap Ship, I see 9.31 for 100g, and 11.42 for 250g.
Chit Chats is creeping up, but still is only about $8.00 for the average package of a similar size to both those price points. It would be a lot more convenient to use Canada Post, but saving as much as $4 for a package adds up quickly.
lotzofuniquegoodies
·3 years ago@ilikehockeyjerseys
I tested with a previous 500 gram parcel from Calgary to California. Discount shows as 30 %. Old charge level 1 was just around 16.31. With discount it would be in the neighbourhood of 14.00. Will vary slightly if your parcel is affected by cubing.
According to CP Counter rate, same parcel by Small packet air would be 15.07. With Level 4 the total would be 13.79 (8 % discount)

OP3 years agoI did up a label today for 200 grams with Tracked Packet USA and the price was $11.21 through eBay (as you saw) and $11.42 through Shippo (that is my usual price, and I'm at Level 3).
For me my Canada Post outfit is a few minutes away (I could walk it if feeling ambitious) so that is always my go to (after printing the labels of course).
ilikehockeyjerseys
·3 years agoShipping via Canada Post is more convenient than Chit Chats.
I still have USA buyers who are astounded that it costs me $8.99 CAD to ship them a bubble mailer.
mrdutch1001
·3 years agoswitching to Tracked Packet is definitely an option...
However, IF buyers genuinely want an item they will pay whatever it takes to get it...
ilikehockeyjerseys
·3 years agoIt depends on what you sell.

Message at the top of ebay labels today:
msau4301
OP3 years agoI think the shipping calculator always showed counter rates because there would be no way of (eBay) knowing what method seller would use (ie. going to the counter directly, buying from Canada Post site, Shippo, or other) so they show highest amount since it would have to be the same price for everybody using the calculator regardless.

·3 years ago@msau4301

·3 years agoThe savings you're seeing at retail (over the counter) are from an update about a month ago.

Now to get a confirmation from eBay the discounted rate can be available to the buyer vs having a necessity to refund to appease buyers.

·3 years agoI am not sure how it will work. I am charged by Shippo, once a week, or after I spend 100 dollars. I mainly ship through ChitChats, but still keep the Level 2 at CP. I don't think I will switch to CP, but I am glad it goes into a right direction 😉

·3 years agoHi-I am trying this out as I usually just print via Canada Post but the prices seemed attractive.
Thanks for the help.
mrdutch1001
·3 years agoeBay does not enter the UR # as a tracking number...if you want the correct tracking number you will need to add it...and yes it then shows there are 2 numbers for that package, but when purchasing shipping labels for Small Packet through eBay, the number that eBay automatically enters IS NOT A Tracking number, and we have to ignore that one, so at best simply message your buyer with the correct tracking number.
For shipments to the UK and EU countries, an HS code is NOT same as the required lOSS number.
The HS code identifies the category of the item/classification of the item...The IOSS number indicates VAT has been paid.
tuckhouse2021
·3 years agoYes I understand the difference between the HS code and the IOSS number but there is no place to enter the IOSS number to state that the VAT has been paid. Where do I add that as my buyers will be charged twice.?

Do you have a pen? Write it on the label.
Not everything is computerized.
tuckhouse2021
·3 years agoYes, Everything is computerized in the IOSS world and writing on the label does not count.

@devon@ebay The 'click here link for a comprehensive overview' in the message doesn't appear to be working. It just brings me to

Hi @pjcdn2005! Thanks for letting me know on this. I will get this over to the Shipping team to have them update the link.

·3 years agoIs the issue witht he Small packet putting in some random tracking number still an issue?

YMMV.

·3 years agoYea, I used to ship letter mail to the USA until I had a bunch returned by customs due to the merchandise thing! and my post office feels all letters (I use a paper envelope not bubble) and knows who I am, so that doesnt work so well either!
Closest red box is 15 mins from my small town, so also not great! lol
mrdutch1001
·3 years agoCanada Post specifically states that goods/merchandise DO NOT qualify as letter mail to the USA and International destinations and thusly have ever right to reject/returrn any non-conforming envelopes disguised as lettermail.
Accepting, adjusting and adapting to shipping via Small Packet/Tracked Packet to the USA and International destinations is the solution.
regs43
·3 years agoYeah and I already have, I was just replying to someone telling me I should mail with letterpost, which I used to pre July 2022.
If someone wants my item the will pay the price, if not then nothing much I can do at that point!
mrdutch1001
·3 years agoI also have no alternative to Canada Post so therefore am really grateful for this new pact with eBay and Canada Post.

·3 years agoThat's really good news! I have a few questions though:
Will the rate shown to buyers be adjusted to show the level 4 discounts? This is really important to know.
For anyone currently using eBay labels, does the Tax Invoice report also show a breakdown of the taxes paid on the shipping labels?
ericsells75
·3 years agoWill the rate shown to buyers be adjusted to show the level 4 discounts? This is really important to know.
Yes - This is very important to know! - I currently discount my shipping to account for the discounted rate I get via Shippo so I will need to adjust otherwise this will actually end up costing me.
@devon@ebay Can you confirm if listings will automatically update to reflect the discounted shipping proce on the 27th?
pjcdn2005
·3 years agoIt would be nice to have the option of showing buyers the discounted rate or the retail rate.
devon@ebay
Hi @ericsells75! Let me reach out and confirm on this and I will let you know once I hear back.
devon@ebay
@ericsells75 The new discounts would reflect when a seller attempts to buy labels on eBay, they would then be charged the new L4 rates.

·3 years agoThis is a NEWS! I wonder if it applies to Shippo rates, too..? 🤔
msau4301
OP3 years agoI wondered the same thing, I use Shippo because it was lower (I'm not sure if I'm at Level 3 or 4 in my CP account) this looks good though and I know if you hit "purchase label" here it shows eBay's rate on same page as "Go to Shippo" so I am going to look. This doesn't kick in until later this week though (27th).
