For a few weeks now I've been noticing that the Ebay shipping label fees, when they get posted to my payment account, seem higher than the cost I remember paying when I bought the label. I started keeping screenshots. On Feb. 5, I shipped a figure to the US with Fedex, through Ebay, and it charged me $18.68. I took two screenshots. I've checked every day to see when that would be posted, and it was today, February 11, and the charge is $24.37. I suspect this is happening on more shipments and if it's happening to me, it could be happening to others. I'm waiting for Ebay to call me and will ask them about it, but posting in the meantime so others can start checking the amounts charged for shipments and whether or not that matches what's actually coming through.

I just got one today that was $5.58 over what was originally billed to the customer(I used calcuated shipping) and what the initial label cost was when I purchased through ebay labels.

Original label price was $12.26, I got charged today $17.84.

The item was going from Riverview, NB to Oakville, ON.

Is there any way to fight this? or is it just a waste of time?

If it was only a few cents or even a dollar or two I probably would let it slide, but over $5 is pretty excessive, and I am not too happy about it.

I did a price check yesterday or the day before that, and the price was back to normal (higher price, not longer over-discounted). When did this happen? I haven't been billed in the last week, so I will check if this is reflected on my funds page soon. I have been mostly sending Expedited Lite.

You can open a case or submit a ticket if it's about the Expedited Lite double charge bug (Devon said it's been fixed now), and they will refund you. As far as the Expedited overcharge (not surcharge) bug from the expired promotion that ended in August, I haven't been refunded, and I don't believe they will. They have yet to address it even tho it's potentially fixed. At the end of the day, eBay will tell you to talk to Canada Post, and Canada Post will tell you to take it up with eBay; you'll essentially be getting clowned, speaking from firsthand experience. If you get really, really lucky with nice rep, they might refund you, no questions asked.

Is there a thread somewhere specifically about the expedited lite double charge? I know I had a bunch of these happen over the past year and wrote them off as "Must have gotten the weight wrong, sucks for me". Not sure how helpful it'd be at this point since most of them were more than 90 days ago and I don't have a sightline on em, but any kinda refund would be nice!

It was Canada Post Expedited Parcel.

Demensions: 12x16x11 (not sure why its not showing the higher # first, I always put the higher # first. Not sure if it makes a difference or not)

I think eBay was treating smaller parcels incorrectly for a while (I think they might have fixed it now, but I'm not positive). That's probably why the weird minimum sizes were listed on expedited parcels. Your box (I'm assuming that's cm and not inches given the weight) would probably have been bumped up to 23x20x11 with the issue and the label bought as a parcel rather than a packet, and I suspect that's where the upcharge came from.

According to the Canada Post ABCs of shipping document (updated July 2, 2025) the service tiers in cm are:

Document: 14x9x0.1, 50g with max 38x27x2, 1.36kg

Packet: 10x7x1.5, 50g with max LxWxH = 3220 cm3, 1.36kg (does the max size look familiar?)

Parcel: 23x20x2.5, 100g with max 30kg

Use 'get another label' for the order, and enter 23 x 20 x 11 instead and see if the rate estimate matches what you were charged in the end.

ebay labels increase the size of the actual label's LxW to 23x20, and with Height=11cm in your case it might be what I've encountered with small 12cm tall boxes (see here).

The new dimensions appear on the label itself if this is the case still. If you have a copy or can reprint the label you can check what the label actually is. ebay will show your entered dimensions instead (LxW flipped around).

I did what you suggested and it is showing the price at $17.99 with those higher demensions, which is closer to what I was actually charged ($17.84).

Looks like I am going to have to go with Flat rate shipping instead of calculated if this "scam" continues.

Is this strictly at CP/Ebay problem or is UPS also affected?

Only domestic CP labels afaik. However, the pricing seems to be in-line with other tier 4 discount rate now. I tested it a few days ago with some previously undercharged (overdiscounted) labels, will have to see the bill to confirm it tho. Only domestic CP labels afaik. UPS does their normal fake weight/dimensions surcharge randomly and the occasional $7 fee for address correction.

Going forward it would be a very good idea to monitor your expedited labels. I've had 2 in the past week where the measurements magically changed when label printed. This is causing revised bills inaccurate charges being sent to sellers after the fact. This is an eBay issue. NOT a seller data entry error!!!!

I just had 1 to Vancouver. Entered 14 x 14 x 12 cm .440 grams. When label printed measurements on label printed as 23 x 20 x 12 dim weight 1.100

Similar to the longstanding issue with expedited lite. Enter in actual measurements. When label prints measurements are over ridden to 5 x 5 x 5 cm which would be size of a large stamp. Entered weight displays as entered.

Canada Post is doing that constantly, not respecting the discounted prices provided by Ebay. If your package has to transit through Winnipeg...you will get a surcharge. Just got a surcharge of $5 for a package going to to Saskatoon from Quebec. The package dimensions and weight were accurate.

Currently, there seems to be a problem with the price displayed by the calculated shipping cost formula, displaying too great a discount, likely due to an expired promotion, like other users have mentioned. This causes you (the seller) to pay extra to cover this discrepancy, as Canada Post is no longer honouring those prices. In this case, it's not a surcharge due to weight or dimensions discrepancies, but simply an "overcharge". This problem started around the time of the strike for me (unrelated to the strike itself, just giving you a time reference).

This is not to say that in normal circumstances, Canada Post doesn't lie about the weight and dimensions; they 100% do. It hasn't happened to me with eBay labels, but it does happen if you buy directly from them or through another third party like Shippo. If you are close (in either weight or size) to the next price bracket, they will add a few grams and centimetres (usually 0.5-1 cm) from experience and bill you $1-2$ extra. There is currently a lawsuit on this matter in Alberta. Scummy practices all around.

I just got double charged for an expedited lite, $6 then $3 a few days after. It was a bubble mailer, 100g (20x20x4 cm). Got charged $6 and then $3 two days later.

This seems to be on the rise with all of them...

I was just upcharged for 2 parcels going Canada post to the eIS hub, one of them about 50% more!

And Canada post seems to be the worst, because ebay reps tell me that they have no way to investigate or to open any claims with them, yet Canada post refuses to deal with us sellers at all, they just say "I can't tell you anything because you are not an account owner. That is ebay and they should contact us". At least with UPS ebay can "open the case".

Hours and hours of wasted time. I wonder if everyone of us will call ebay for each instance of overcharge wll the amount of money they have to pay to their reps finally make it worthwhile to sort it out with Canada post?...

Yea they need to be sued. eBay will say to talk to Canada Post and Canada Post will tell you to sort it out with eBay. You're just running in a circle, don't even bother. At the end, neither will reimburse you, quite literally a scam. Shame on them!

I've called them 3 seperate times in the last few months with overcharges on at least 30-40 items and they record the each one say they will forward them to whoever they forward them to and then nothing. my running total of overcharges is around $71 and that's not counting the currently ones from a few days ago. The worst were 3 going to the hub that were overcharged $8.26 each. I also suggest that every one call and keep calling until it gets resolved, if it gets resolved.

I've been getting the same thing for all my regular "Expedited" labels. I suspect that there is a bug on eBay where they are showing a greater discount (lower price) than the real price. So, the buyer pays less, and you end up eating up the cost.

I've had it with Canada Post and UPS. Canada Post Expedited is about an extra $2-$3.5 every time. I've only used UPS a couple of times during the strike; I had an extra $1-2 every time. One of the labels had an address adjustment because the buyer input the wrong postal code, and I got a $9 tacked on. I've heard the same happened from people who ship to the eIS hub with UPS. I'd avoid that ASAP.

All in all, I don't think most of them are "adjustments"; it's just straight-up eBay charging the buyer the wrong amount due to an error in the calculated shipping cost formula. This isn't to say that they don't cheat and add on fake charges. Half of the labels I get from Shippo have fake weight and size "adjustments". I've stopped buying them from there after it happened a few times. Up until the strike ended, eBay correctly charged the labels.

I've had the opposite.

Excluding Expedited Lite labels and looking only at Expedited Parcels I haven't had any adjustments using Shippo for expedited parcels yet, but I sent 3 Expedited parcels with ebay labels from Oct 28 to Nov 4th and all 3 have came out to the calculated amounts.

@ultrasushi27 Your UPS charge to the hub might be the same as this other case, the amount is close but different:

To be fair, I should've mentioned that it's usually hit-or-miss, and that these fake weight/dimension adjustment price increases are passed on by Canada Post, not Shippo. Anywhere outside of eBay, if your weight and dimensions are close to being on the next price bracket, Canada Post will falsify the weight or dimensions so they can bill you extra charges. I have up to 20 different box sizes, so I always try to minimize the label cost with the smallest size possible. The internet documents this very well. I believe there is a lawsuit currently in Alberta for this reason or something along those lines.

The same thing just happened to me with a UPS shipping label, sent to the international hub Mississauga for an eIS order going to the US. Initial cost paid was $18.32, and I was charged $27.30 through the transactions page today. I called eBay first thing, they said they didn't have any info and to check with UPS. Called UPS, they said they charged eBay $19 and some change, but they claimed they don't know where the $27.30 amount is coming from. They've forwarded my request to their Finance department and told me to expect an email from them in the next few days.

This has happened to be a few times with Canada Post (a few dollars or cents difference each time) but never with UPS for such a big difference.

Whyyyyyy is selling online becoming such a pain in the derrière. It's like every step of the way there's an extra tax, an extra charge, an extra challenge. It's exhausting.

Huh, I now realize that when the customer service lady from UPS told me they billed ebay for $19.34, that was probably USD because that would convert to 27.30$ CAD. I got someone from eBay to file a dispute for me, we'll see who between eBay and UPS can explain to me why I was charged an extra 9$ on a shipping label with absolutely no explanation.

I'm used to having some discrepancies with Canada Post labels when my weight or measurements are slightly off (they have literally charged me for a 5 gram difference in the past), but I've never had a UPS label cost 49% more that what was agreed upon before. Absolutely wild.

Check your tracking. Was there a change in the address or something like that?

Yes there was, I believe they adjusted the postal code to the eIS warehouse in Mississauga because eBay got it wrong in the beginning (hopefully it's been fixed now). Could that be why? The tracking didn't mention there would be any fees involved for fixing a postal code, and when I called UPS billing customer service they didn't mention any additional fees.

Maybe, I'm not sure. UPS does normally charge for an address correction, but I'm not sure if just a postal code change triggers it or not. I had two I shipped to eIS with UPS via Click Ship that had the address changed and (so far) I haven't been charged extra. I WAS charged extra on the eBay Canada Post labels I bought going to the hub though 🙄.

Did the volume on the label match what you expected? eBay seems to be changing label size with some Canada Post labels right now, so I'm wondering if they may also be changing them with UPS.

Easy Ship (has a free tier for limited volume), Click Ship (no tiers), and Sendle (1 year of premium tier when you sign up) are options you may want to look into if you continue to have label issues. You may even save some money.

I don't use ebay much but just sold something and used ebay Canada Post label. At checkout it was $4.## then when ebay settled the transaction it jumped to $11.##

FYI - The price eBay shows when you buy a FedEx label are only estimates, if any of the dozens of possible surcharges FedEx might apply none of these will be shown by eBay in the estimate.

With UPS/Fedex if the amount displayed when seller creates a label is an estimate, it would be good to know what buyer is being shown when the invoice is sent to them for payment? Especially when calculated shipping is in play and accurate measurements have been provided. Give or take, around or a guesstimate is not super helpful from a sellers perspective. Billing is real time as is payment.

Regarding Fedex/UPS being "notorious" for upcharges, when eBay first announced these add on negotiated rates they came with an explanation of what was or wasn't included. If that original information is still available I am unable to confirm. There may have been modifications after the fact. I believe 2 were residentual pickup/residential delivery at no extra charge. Anything like that should be tied to the calculator and the negotiated rate, including any add on surcharges etc. This way no surprises for both seller or buyer.

Thanks, Ebay customer service confirmed this. Will be asking why this is permitted and why we are not notified when Fedex "adjusts" a shipment, and why Ebay can't put in the proper formula to quote actual Fedex prices.

Also interesting - I was clearly not the first call about this, she knew exactly what I was talking about. Just kept saying that Fedex was permitted to change the cost based on the weight and size they calculated (and my calculations are accurate). Kept saying it wasn't Ebay, it was Fedex, and could not answer why Ebay could not use the Fedex formula to give us accurate pricing. Did not also answer when I asked if UPS and Canada Post could also change the costs after purchase. She also could not answer when I asked why this wasn't in the fine print at the bottom, or why Ebay wouldn't notify sellers that the actual price might be different in the fine print before purchasing the label.

TLDR - Ebay doesn't know why my Fedex label increased in price. Consider checking yours.

First Ebay customer service agent tried to tell me that this was normal and that Fedex could just do this whenever. I asked to speak to a manager who, after confirming all information, admitted that this was unusual and said she'd be looking into it and creating a service ticket. Said that if there are adjustments from carriers from time to time, like for a weight or size entered incorrectly, they are always given a reason which is clearly shown, and that there's nothing like that in this case. She could also see the price I originally agreed to without me sending screenshots. She hopes to have an answer from Fedex within 2 weeks. I hope that the service ticket will also expose if this is happening to more people.

Fedex is notorious for this stuff. Be thankful it was a $6 charge instead of $600. The best option is to just not use them. I've had no issues with UPS (so far). The only issues I've had with Canada Post have been for Expedited Lite when either eBay or Canada Post periodically apply dimensional rates when they shouldn't.

It is also happening with UPS and Canada post labels. I just had a batch of 10 today that every single one was up charged. 8 UPS and 2 Canada post. Including 2 to the hub of which I was again up charged over $8 each on.

In the last month 95% of the labels that I have purchased have later been upcharged. I have called everytime a new batch is uploaded and still nothing has been resolved.

Canada Post and UPS are more than capable of doing the same thing... I've had many extra charges from both after shipment, through eBay and outside vendors. Most aren't worth chasing down and are unfortunately the cost of doing business.

Recently I have had several upcharges. A few minor. Balance were 3 or more dollars with CP/ebay labels. If CP via eBay is going to send sellers revised charges for shipments then the least they could do is include an explanation (break down) of what caused the modification. This is just normal business practice. In the past these "revised" bills were worst case scenario what would be considered occasional. Lately they have almost become....wait for it...it's coming.

Because this is happening under the hood they are charges that a seller has to write off as a loss because there is no way withing eBay to send a buyer a revised bill for these charge discrepancies. The dispute process is "you fill in the blank'.

As a side most sellers would have to send refunds to buyers due to discrepancies caused by combined or multiple unit shipping. It would interesting to know with eIS if a buyer is overcharged how often or if ever they get a refund for overpaid shipping or incorrectly charged taxes.

Had a ton of these happen recently too! Switched to a new business policy on all my items to have buyers pay for Expedited Parcel (not Lite) and have been finding a week later I end up getting charged $2-$5 more than what eBay charged the buyer, and what it said the label would cost when I bought it. Spoke to an eBay rep and he was confused as to why this would be happening, but ultimately said I'd need to talk to Canada Post to resolve it. Guess what Canada Post said? Talk to eBay.

As others have said, it used to be a rare one off kinda thing for this to happen. Now it seems to be almost every package I've been shipping, and I darn well know my measurements and weight are right.

I'm using Canada Post Expedited Parcel.

My boxes are 10' x 4' x 4' , which I round up to 26cm x 11cm x 11cm at label creation, and weight is usually 275-300g, with some being closer to 600g.

The first item I noticed this on the buyer had paid $15.18 for the above dimensions and 570g weight. A week later I got charged $18.26 for the shipping label. If I go back to that order right now and try to generate new labels with the same dimensions and weight it says it'll cost $ $15.31.

It's unrelated to weight and dimension. It's an overcharge, not your regular surcharge. People are saying that a promotion ended in August, and eBay hasn't updated its shipping cost formula. I did test the shipping cost a few days ago with the same address from a previous package, and the price is now higher (closer to what it should've been), so I'm thinking that the issue has been solved, although no mention of it anywhere from eBay themselves. I've had many Expedited labels come back 3-4$ more, zero refunds.

I recently had an expedited where the measurements printed out differently than the inputted measurements. (Confirmed with the 2nd unit available.) The label charge at time of printing matched the listing details to the location. In confirming with the actual measurements the discrepancy was approx. 4.00 more. I followed up with CP and they have opened a ticket under the eBay account number and my name.

As a side while speaking to the agent, I confirmed where the measurements entered are actually more than the physical measurements you "should" in theory/practice get a credit if the billable charges "should" be less. From personal experience I have only ever seen upcharges. Never credits for overcharges. CP is aware of the fact that any modified charges should be forwarded to sender with an explanation for the discrepancy.

Recently I have had several upcharges. A few minor. Balance were 3 or more dollars with CP/ebay labels. If CP via eBay is going to send sellers revised charges for shipments then the least they could do is include an explanation (break down) of what caused the modification. This is just normal business practice. In the past these "revised" bills were worst case scenario what would be considered occasional. Lately they have almost become....wait for it...it's coming.

Because this is happening under the hood they are charges that a seller has to write off as a loss because there is no way withing eBay to send a buyer a revised bill for these charge discrepancies. The dispute process is "you fill in the blank'.

As a side most sellers would have to send refunds to buyers due to discrepancies caused by combined or multiple unit shipping. It would interesting to know with eIS if a buyer is overcharged how often or if ever they get a refund for overpaid shipping or incorrectly charged taxes.

Little follow up. My expedited lite are often off within pennies due to delays in ebay billing.

Regular Canada expedited are the shipments off by 2 to 5 bucks. Intl tracked have been right on the nose. There is still little in the way as to how long it takes for billing to be processed and get removed from ebay funds. (Note: eBay FVF's and Promoted fees are 100 % immediate. Advised/approved credit receipts require major patience!!)

FEdex are notorious for adding to advertised fees.

Don't trust what you see.

Use UPS which may appear more expensive but which is more reliable, or Canada Post when the package fits their acceptable parameters.

Bonus- while UPS is an American company and all profits go south, Canada Post's profits go to the Canadian treasury.

It's not eBay it's FedEx.
