Promoting listings - are you doing it?

I was promoting listings last year but stopped in Dec 2025. Went away for 3 months and am now back and I am wondering it I should go back to promoting listings or not. I know that some of you are doing some tests, what have you found so far?
I did find in 2025 promoting listings did help but the sales world has changed especially for US buyers. Most of my buyers are now Canadians, which I am so thankful for. I sell CD's so it is a full category.

·5 months agoI did.
For a short while.
Wish I hadn't.
But just had to find out for myself.
Now I don't.
I usta but,
Never would again.
All comes down to how crowded your category is and.
How much wiggle room you have to work with.
Also known as how well did you buy your item(s).

·5 months agoI stopped promotions late last year. No way to give more money away.

·5 months agowhich means that they will try to sell/promote those promoted items over the nonpromoted)..
Well yeah.
That's what the sellers who buy PL advertising are paying for.
promoting high sell-through items is really not needed
Absolutely.
Save it for the slower moving or high density categories.
I have crazy fees now, and every item I sell is being charged with a promotion fee. I was doing 7% across the board,
I've never done more than the minimum and am satisfied with the results, although I did drop all my PL listings when the Halo Effect was announced.
I still have not seen any reports on bottom line effects of that grift.
Q1 is usually my best season (and Q4 the worst) but sales have been way down from the US although my overseas sales have almost made up for it.

·5 months agoI am still boycotting it, and I hope to continue that, I never liked PL to begin with. I was doing 2-5 % before the new attributtion changes. I don't think it made much difference, but I am not a high volume seller anyways so its hard to tell.

·5 months agoYes, I've continued to use promoted listings in 2026 just as I had done in 2025, made no changes whatsoever. When they announced the PL attribution changes effective Jan 2026 I was expecting to incur fees more often, but that has not been my experience. Sometimes multiple item invoices incur a fee on an item, but not every item as I was expecting. Honestly, I cannot see that the attribution changes have had any impact at all.

·5 months agoI notice no one has replied to you... so here is my situation...
I have been promoting only because I feel ebay will favor those who do. (I always think that if eBay can find a way to make more money from us sellers, then they will... which means that they will try to sell/promote those promoted items over the nonpromoted).... the issue is that I have crazy fees now, and every item I sell is being charged with a promotion fee. I was doing 7% across the board, but now am changing a lot to 2-3%.
However, I feel like promoting high sell-through items is really not needed and I think I will reavaulate mine very soon... but some of those slow movers may need a little promotonal bump. Sales are also tough with Trump in office, and I am trying as hard as I can to get every advantage I can, while still keeping a little meat on the bone.
I am starting to sell only items with 70-100% sell through rate, and hope that I do not need to promote much anymore.
Bottom line is... I think good items will always sell, and promoting them is likey not needed! It only gives eBay more money, that most can't afford to give more money away in todays economy.
Good luck!
