Selling to Switzerland or Noway

Just as a matter of interest for fellow Canadian eBay sellers looking to expand their market beyond the USA.... Canadian Etsy sellers are indicating they have had no issues shipping items to these countries: Australia,New Zealand,Switzerland,Japan,South Korea

It was a while ago, but I shipped an item to Switzerland by Stallion Express through PostNL and it was incredibly fast and cheap. Basically took a flight to Amsterdam within a day or two, trucked to Switzerland and in their mailbox in Zurich in a week. Cost me CAD$9.75 for a 169g package with tracking.

Swiss import fees/charges only start on postal imports when the value (including shipping) exceeds 62 CHF, or about CAD$105 currently. Once you exceed that, it gets hefty for the buyer, their customs processing fee is like CAD$20 if they have to collect duty/VAT.

Unsure if this was ever fixed by eBay at least for Norway. I do know there were other countries involved including Israel for CP Intl tracked. After my situation for this a checked several months later and the option to ship with tracked was still MIA. (That order has now purged.) Problem being customer can pay for tracked but seller is unable to purchase a label with eBay labels even though calculator tool and listing shows it is available.

@devon@ebay Do you know if this was ever FULLY corrected by eBay. According to CP there should be 40 countries + or - that a seller can ship to with Intl Tracked. Is eBay on the same page with CP on this?

As side note sellers are unable to use UPS as an option for Intl shipping with eBay Labels from Canada. Was this done intentionally or in error? In the example below Fedex only provides 1 service to the UK. UPS total of ZERO. US sellers have and have had access to multiple assorted shipping options for intl shipping internationally for years. Very important to see the fedex option is substantially higher than CP options.

Unsure if the exxplanation for Israel being blocked for Canadian shippers is due to the ongoing war and possibly updates to USPS not mirroring CP when it comes to blocked vs unblocked. According to the eBay calculator tool Israel is still available when you check. The problem happens when buyer chooses that option and it is missing in eBay labels forcing seller to go outside of eBay at a loss or worst case scenario having to cancel the order.

Any secondary countries would be something else going on. For my previous Norway situation, the option to ship tracked was still missing 2 months after I sent using CP directly.

Part 2:

Just confirmed using the eBay calculator tool. Still no UPS options on ca to ship internationally (tested UK and Sweden). Only secondary option is Fedex which is at an extremely unrealistic price point. I kg to Sweden via tracked is 44.00 Fedex is 119.00. UPS did not display. IF a postal strike does happen many will need a backup discounted options. (On dot com in settings you are able to choose which services you provide to buyers. On dot com...no such option. All or none.)

Keep in mind that the Buyer is paying those import fees , not you the seller.

If eBay is collecting the import fees, it will be part of the buyer's payment to you, and you will pay eBay fees on the collected money.

It is the Buyer's responsibility to know what their import fees will be, if eBay doesn't assess them on purchase.

It is the Seller's responsibility to identify the goods being sent, and to put the HS code on the parcel.

For Norway eBay will collect VAT from the buyer, duty may be payable on delivery, depends on the value.

For Switzerland, eBay does not collect anything, the buyer may have to pay VAT/Duty on delivery, depends on the value.

Nothing else is required other than a completed customs form.

For Norway eBay will provide a VOEC code which must be included on the shipping label, it's usually already part of the address label eBay provides.

For International orders always good to have a packing list attached to the outside of the package.

That's changed. I had an order to Switzerland in the past month and there was a VAT code on the invoice for me to add to the package. I previously had no problem shipping to Switzerland because they wouldn't get double charged taxes, but seems Switzerland collects VAT the same way as the rest of the EU.
