Anybody else? Does it mean like small adjustments or did anybody have bad surprises? Hope I am not going to see 100's of dollars bill, I try to be honest with this stuff.
Surprising Stallion Express saying they even provide credits if I overpaid duties. That's nice. I thought once paid is paid, if I pay too much, money is gone and Trump is not refunding.

Dear Valued Clients,
We are writing to inform you of duty adjustments that will be applied to your account for DDP parcels shipped to the U.S. starting in June. These adjustments reflect the actual amounts received from customs.
Please note the following:
* If you were overcharged, a refund will be issued to your account.
* If the final duty charge is higher than the initial estimate, a supplemental charge will be applied to your account.
You can review the details in the Transactions History section of your Credits page.
Should you have any concerns or require clarification regarding these adjustments, please do not hesitate to contact us at hello@stallionexpress.ca.
Sincerely,
The Stallion Team

OP9 months agoAnd ZONOS is taking images, so they also send the adjustmens? I thought if they take photo of the item and I don't lie about Country of Origin, that should be sufficient to calculate tariffs accuratly, unless I disguise the item on the phone or send something else in the box. Otherwise I would expect Zonos to be capable to achieve higher accuracy than the text search tool in Stallion HS code validation.

·10 months agoI went to Stallion half an hour ago with my ONE US package from the weekend.
Basically when it wants me to describe the item it is returning an HTS code that's not correct. I tried to reclassify 4 times to get it to give me 9704 for stamps. The clerk at Stallion said to go with the system, if it's described properly in the item description then one will hope the tariffs will be applied correctly when the package is processed.
Apparently there are bugs. One bug I can see is when I'm filling out the vendor information it asks me for the HTS code (to classify it correctly) and then returns something completely different. If I tell the system I want 9704 for the code, that's what it should return back to me. Also when I try to reclassify it's giving me no other options, it just kept returning "printed matter".
Also I hear that Zonos is charging no tariffs on stamps but the UK stamps I sent last week had tariffs (10%), and it was code 9704 (which was correct for what I was shipping).
I like that some things are being improved and worked out, but I can't wait for them to get the bugs out. It's bad enough having to do all this new stuff and have these obstacles, but even worse if the systems aren't doing what they're supposed to be doing.

·10 months agoI just tested the zonos prepay app, with great britain stamps using description:
"Collector postage stamps used", it returned code 9704.00.000 as expected and ZERO tariffs due.
"postage stamps" returned code 4907.00.0000 as expected (mint postage) and ZERO tariffs due.

·10 months agoThanks for checking, I've been logging my sales tonight and noting which ones have tariffs and Stallion charged me 3.76 in Tariffs on my UK Stamp Lot (1993 Year set, under code 9704).
Perhaps it's just a bug with Stallion, they've promised to fix it when they get around to actually paying.

·10 months agoI dont use cross border shippping its too 45 mins each way for it to be worth it before all this tariff stuff. and 5-10 packages a week for 50ents savings per isnt worth it.
But i did check recently to see what Chit Chats would charge for Hockey cards which is tariff free with Zonos.
Postage was like 6.50
the per item processing fee was 0.25 or something
and then their fee for 2.00 to clear the package
Works out to be like 25 cents cheaper then the rate I get with Canada Post and Zonos for a tariff free package.
So worth checking Zonos on items and not just with Cross Borders as a general rule. Depending on the rate with Canada Post could be similar. Zonos iz fairly quick, take a pick it calculates and then u edit any info that might be a bit off. There is no scews to create etc.
I have had about 20 packages cross and delivered with Canada Post in 3-5 days

·10 months agoI got this too. I'm having issues on Stallion's site.
I'm trying to ship stamps for 9704, and I reclassified it 4 times changing the customs description from postage stamps, to philatelic material, stamped covers... it keeps coming back with "printed matter" which is showing me that it's an exclusion for the EU under an annex (but there's tariffs if it's from Canada), and 9704 is supposed to have 15% tariffs (as per their dashboard when I checked).
So I'm wondering, either the GB stamps I sent last week will get tariff refunded, or these stamps will get tariffed. It's completely not letting me tell it the HTS code and picking it for me based on my description, but changing the description is not rendering any different result.
What I read from Stallion's note, is Stallion will take the packages to the border and have them all assessed for tariffs (and pay them), and if they pay different than what we paid when we bought postage, they will debit or credit our account with the difference. It's not that Trump is refunding us or not for paying too much, but Stallion guessing on what we owe, paying it, and finding out differently when they do.

OP10 months agoSo is the Stallion broker going through all packages one by one? I thought they are just doing checks but most packages passing with the customs as declared now in Stallion.

·10 months agoI presume it's manifested. CBP has to accept something has the correct HTS code, they may change the code based on the item description. Stallion has been assigning the wrong code for some of my items and no attempts to reject the classification and get it reclassified are working to change the HTS code, so I'm not fighting it, I'm going with the system unless it's horribly wrong. I just try to do a better job describing it for customs to get it matched with the right code.
What I don't get, is when I fill out the SKU form it gives me the opportunity to provide an HTS code with the description I give for customs, but it doesn't use that code to match my product when it gets classified. Kind of pointless for me to suggest a code if they're not even going to accept it.

OP9 months agoSomething is fishy about that Stallion Express allocation, I put the correct HS Code into it (I look up on Chitchats HS tool website which I find more reliable) and then put the HS Code but Stallion sometimes spits out something else instead, it's weird.
So I got my first adjustments this week, nasty, I am owing money almost 100 dollars on tariffs to Stallion.
Guess what - I did select right category and all, but Stallion wasn't setup. These are from my early shipments in August, I started to ship DDP in August before even Trump removes deminimis. And those shipments have wrong tariffs calculated. They deviiate my same percetage, different items but similar type, I think Stallion Express didn't have Section 301 List 3 tariff included in their calculation because that seems what makes up the difference, but obviously it's fluctuating because of the dollars exchange rate plus there was higher brokerage fee charged before.
I wonder if people getting these adjustments and how much it is. I don't lie on these customs documents, so it's either I do a mistake or Stallion. In this case I verified, I used the correct HS Code and still got slapped with adjustments.

OP9 months agoIf I undestand correctly, if the item gets classified before the sale happens, then the HTS code and the description from the classification is carried over to the shipping form. That however requires to run classification on all items in advance, assuming that any items I have in inventory are will be selling to the US. If there is an item I didn't classify and validate before the order, then the information doesn't get copied over. I think Stallion missed this out.
In any case, I prefer to have control the way Chitchats offers right now. Whether they will do something like Stallion in the future, that's open. Chitchats right now allows me to lookup the HS Code in their lookup tool and then copy it over manually. That's manual work for some who may sell lots of stock items, for selling individual items mostly this give me control over what I am declaring.

·10 months agoI'm not sure if I've received this message but I do understand it.
In the initial period (and perhaps still) it's highly likely that the customs broker Stallion is using made mistakes relating the the Tariff rates they were charging Stallion customers. (same thing was happening with Zonos/Canada Post and probably many other customs brokers).
Personally I am not affected for two reasons. 1) I have not shipped any DDP packages via Stallion and 2) As of August 29th I have blocked all sales to the US.
In my particular case pretty much everything I would ship to the US should be exempt from the new tariffs under "50 U.S.C. § 1702(b) – certain donations and informational materials" (phono records, cassettes, cd's etc).
Stallion has told me that they are working with their broker to implement this exemption but it is not in place at this time so If I were to ship these goods their broker would eventually refund the overpaid tariffs.
Keep in mind that when using Stallion, ChitChats, Canada Post etc the tariff amounts they calculate are only estimates, the true rates are not confirmed until the shipments are actually cleared through CPB. There have been and probably will continue to be variances, both up and down, as to the actual final rates.
The Stallion message is just telling you that adjustments may be made and that those adjustments could increase or decrease the final confirmed charges and that credits/debits will occur.
Also keep in mind that if SCOTUS declares all of these tariffs as a violation of executive powers the entire thing could be tossed out and CPB would be required to refund all tariffs collected under the Emergency Measures that Trump used to instate them in the first place.
This is essentially just like buying a shipping label via eBay, the price you pay is subject to review by the carrier and may increase or decrease.

·10 months agoVariances appear to be a huge issue for exporters:

OP10 months agoAs far as I know the Emergency act has no refund procedure. It will take years and tons of paperwork filing. I bet sellers will be left on their own submitting claims for each shipment manully including attaching invoices and all documentation for each transaction. They would make it as hard as possible to not have to pay out refunds. Priority would be given to US citizens applying for refunds first.

·10 months agoI'm guessing that we pay Stallion an estimated price, Stallion pays CBP, and if there's a discrepency between what we paid Stallion and what Stallion paid CBP, there will be an adjustment of price on account.
Speaking of which, I should check my account to see if that's come up... I track expenses, so I want to know if I paid the wrong duty.
