Suggestion for Canadian Sellers using eIS
Summary: In the Canada Technical Issues and Suggestion Forum, lotzofuniquegoodies requests that Canadian sellers have the option to opt out of eIS on a case-by-case basis, rather than it being the default method. merritt-motorcycle-salvage suggests separating shipping policies for the US from international to control handling fees better. visual-sound advises against complicating the process, while marnotom! and regs43 discuss the challenges of eIS for international orders, noting it often leads to higher costs and delayed shipments. intimewithmusic shares eBay's guidelines about packaging, emphasizing the importance of using tracked instead of standard lettermail for efficiency and security.
Canada Technical Issues and Suggestion Forum
@devon@ebay Would it be possible to give Canadian sellers the option to opt out of eIS on the listing page on a case by case basis please? Versus having eIS be the default method when we don't know which items qualify for the program. This should be easy to address/rectify in programming.
If anyone else feels this will work for them please add your John or Judy Hancock to this post so we can get a consensus.
We also NEED CP eBay Labels discounted options turned OFF for sellers wishing to use direct US shipping. Defeats its purpose when buyers can choose a discounted service that sellers are UNABLE to utilize...since August 2025.

Hi @lotzofuniquegoodies ! I can share this feature request with the Shipping team and the Product team.

·1 week ago · EditedAS a letter mail seller, I would actually like the ability to apply a different shipping rate for sales to the Hub then regular domestic sales. I generally put a photo in a different package for domestic vs international shipping as would charge a bit more to cover the extra packing for international travel. This one size fits all doesn't really work well with the EIS program as what I charge for domestic doesn't cover the additional costs to send to the EIS with the extra packaging, and there is no guarantees EIS is repacking items (as I had a friend buy something from me and they just slapped 2 or 3 labels at each different carrier stop on my more flimsy lettermail package).
Also my handling charge applied to a calculated rate DID not get charged on the EIS sale, I added that to cover packing materials etc. Worked for non EIS destinations but not to the EIS (good thing I over estimated the package size so made a few cents that way $0.37)

OP1 week ago@regs43 Total agreement. W. Canada sellers are being punished for small dollar eIS sales because of the default to letter mail. If a handling is built into quoted postage it is NEVER enough to cover upgrades to a tracked service to hub. Those shipments eventually arrive at hub but usually late and even though they get acknowledged as received they get marked as late and no tracking entered.

·1 week ago · Edited@regs43 any change is unlikely. According to eBay:
Core Packaging Rules
Package for the final destination: You must pack the item securely enough to withstand the entire journey to the international buyer. eBay explicitly states that items are very rarely repackaged at the Mississauga hub. Repackaging only happens if the outer box arrives damaged or if the format is entirely unsuitable for international transit (such as a standard envelope).
Avoid standard lettermail: eBay advises against using untracked standard lettermail to send your items to the Ontario hub. Not only does it pose a risk to the seller, but community members note that untracked shipments take longer to be scanned and accepted at the hub compared to tracked options.

·1 week agoI’m a bit puzzled here. What would be gained by having the seller opt out of a single listing versus having the eIS AI do it? Is there more to it than losing a free listing?
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP1 week ago · Edited@marnotom! So sellers could use eIS for USA only and not have to for Intl. eIS for a Canadian seller in western Canada is counter intuitive, slower and more expensive for sellers shipping to Aust./NZ and Europe. All about sellers being able choose shipping methods at their discretion vs eIS being the default.
The other much more important reason would be it would disable buyers seeing a discounted CP tracked rate they can purchase but Canadian sellers are unable to access for US sales. This issue goes back to August of last year. The eBay Label discounted CP tracked rates work perfectly fine for current country list and are 1/3rd the price. This would disable buyers having to pay inflated courier customs clearance.

·1 week ago · EditedOkay, thanks for that. Your original post made reference to items that may not qualify for the program, though, and that's different from what you're saying in your last post.
Don't forget, though, that just because you have eIS on a listing doesn't mean that you can't add additional shipping methods. In the context of what you're describing now, @merritt-motorcycle-salvage 's suggestion of treating the US separately from the rest of world (sort of like what Canada Post does) in shipping policies makes more sense and would also benefit sellers who can't or choose not to use eIS.
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP1 week ago@marnotom! eIS works relatively fine for "most" US shipments. Not so well for Intl orders. Yes you can "try" to add other options but there is no way to remove the defective US discounted option which makes intl (non US) transactions very challenging to set up.
As a side regarding the ebay discount options in personal settings for Canadian sellers give you the option to only turn on or off CP/UPS/Fedex (as a set). From the beginning US sellers have the option to select or deselect USPS, UPS and/or Fedex. Custom discounting is moot because the % varies depending on the service.

·1 week agoMy advise, don't do it. I don't jump through hoops.
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP1 week ago@visual-sound Jumping thru hoops is glossed over in the eBay TOS. The trick is to find it.

·1 week agoA possible option would be if ebay separated the United States from International in shipping polices so we can control handling fees for the United States separately... 1. Domestic 2. United States and 3. International (Non-US)
lotzofuniquegoodies
OP1 week ago@merritt-motorcycle-salvage Probably how it should have been originally designed. One size fits all when it comes to shipping...usually doesn't.
