System Bug: Label tool defaulted to UPS, forced a massive post-delivery adjustment that wiped out 100% of profit
Summary: bianelldo0 is experiencing a significant issue with eBay's shipping label interface, where a glitch forced their domestic shipment in Canada to default to UPS, resulting in unexpected fees that eliminated their profit on the sale. They are seeking assistance from eBay's Community Manager to address this billing issue and to report the system flaw for review by the engineering team. lotzofuniquegoodies explained that the problem arises because the Regular Parcel Service option isn't supported for purchase through eBay labels, causing the system to override to UPS instead of the intended Canada Post service. The recommendation is to use Expedited Parcel options in the future. lotzofuniquegoodies has tagged an eBay representative to escalate the issue to programmers.
There is a severe breakdown between eBay’s domestic checkout options and the backend shipping label interface completely wiped out my profit margin on an order, leaving me with $0 on the sale. I need an official eBay Community Manager to escalate this billing issue, as customer service has been unhelpful.
Here is the exact loophole that occurred:
The Buyer Selected Canada Post: My listing was set to calculated domestic shipping. The buyer chose Canada Post at checkout and paid the corresponding rate.
The Label Interface Glitch: When I went to print the label, eBay's system defaulted the carrier dropdown to UPS. It gave no visual warnings, no price alerts, and did not state that the UPS label would cost significantly more than what the buyer paid. Because Canada Post was greyed out due to an internal system mismatch with the service tier, the system pushed me into the UPS label.
The Post-Delivery Blindside: The item was successfully delivered weeks ago. However, UPS has now hit my account with a massive, delayed "carrier adjustment" fee after delivery. This unexpected charge drove my available funds balance straight into the negative.
eBay essentially pocketed the entire value of my sale to cover a commercial carrier invoice that I never wanted, which was forced onto me by a flawed user interface that failed to accurately display the cost difference or warn me before processing.
Can an eBay team member please look into this transaction, reverse this unfair post-delivery adjustment, and submit a ticket to the engineering team regarding the automatic UPS default loop for Canadian domestic orders?.

In looking at your recent sales it looks like your default option is Regular Parcel for Canada and no options turned on for USA. eBay lets us list that service as an option and allows buyers to pay for that service. Problem being it is not an available service with eBay labels to purchase (Canada Only). (Only choices are exp Lite when applicable, Expedited, Xpresspost and Priority Post) for Canada. The default for USA would UPS or CP Tracked Intl (No discount) with Zonos (as explained below) for USA. This is why system over rode your settings to UPS. There should have been an option before purchasing label to show other options you can choose to view alternatives. Expedited Parcel is the replacement for Regular Parcel (for Canada) because it is technically faster, has built in 100 Free insurance and a service guarantee.
@devon@ebay Can you PLEASE get this looked into ASAP. As a bonus request the system is STILL allowing buyers to pay for discounted tracked but not letting sellers purchase that service with eBay labels. This nightmare goes back to August of 2025.
For @bianelldo0 your safest solution going forward is to make sure you choose Expedited/Expedited lite when under 250 grams for Canadian shipments with the calculated option and discounts turned on in settings. Found in seller preferences. Letter service is designed for paper type items using flat rate shipping within Canada.

To ship to USA with CP you would have to have a Zonos account to handle any tariffs linked to your CP account (With lower discount). With UPS your buyer would be responsible for any tariffs prior to delivery.

OP1 week agoI am still confused why it overrode ot to UPS though when it was being shipped domestically... that is what is not making sense to me. It was being shipped within Canada.

I believe it is due to the fact that the option you provided with regular parcel which eBay is no longer supporting. Why I tagged Devon. He can pass on to programmers. To have seen the expedited option you would need to click on the field below the listed options to see the extra options. See screenshots.
Note: Regular does not display as an option and Expedited Lite is greyed out in my example because my parcel was over 250 grams.
