Tariffs when shipping to the USA.
Hi to all, i'm new here and I have (probably an entry level question) to ask...
I would like to start to sell on ebay, but when shipping to the USA, do I have to pay the tariffs myself with the Zonos app and include the amount in the selling price or the tariffs are charged at the checkout? May sound like a silly question, but I haven't found something clear about it.

·2 weeks agoI have been so far staying away from shipping to the USA, not I am trying to catch up and make my items available to US buyers. I was thinking to use the central shipping - if I do that how are the tariffs and such calculated and charged?

·2 weeks agoI’m assuming that by “central shipping” you mean eBay International Shipping (eIS).
From a seller’s perspective, an eIS shipment looks a lot like a domestic shipment. The seller ships the item to a hub in Mississauga. That’s it. Any tariffs, duties, and other import-related charges are calculated by eIS and/or its carriers and billed to the buyer. The seller has no involvement in this.

·2 weeks agoSometimes eIS will charge what they call "import fees" at Checkout, sometimes it will indicate that the import fees will be payable on delivery, and sometimes it will offer the buyer a choice.
If the import fees are payable on delivery, the buyer won't know what the charges are until either the item is in transit from the Mississauga hub or just before delivery, depending on how the carrier handles items with unpaid import charges. It's not your problem. You've fulfilled your obligations once the item is accepted at the hub.
If the import fees are paid at Checkout, the buyer has the option of simply backing out and not purchasing the item once they have a better idea of the import charges. You probably won't even realize you almost had a buyer for your item.

·2 weeks agoeBay sends the invoice because the seller will likely have no idea how much eIS is charging the buyer to have the item shipped from the Mississauga hub to its final destination.
If you decide to opt into eIS, it will be applied to all listings to all countries served by eIS unless the AI monitoring the listing thinks there may be a problem with the item or a particular destination. (Sometimes the AI gets it right, sometimes it doesn't.)
What you can do, however, is offer a shipping method (or several) in addition to eIS and let the buyer decide which one is most appropriate for the item.

·3 weeks agoKeep in mind if the buyer refuses the tariffs, UPS will collect them from you. It's best to prepay the tariffs with Zonos and build that into your price/shipping.

·3 weeks agoI use the Canada Post Snap Ship. If you use the Zonos Prepay App, the fee might be slightly higher. Don't use photo to find your HTS code - do it yourself, and then add it manually.

Sign up: for a Zonos account and get your account approved.
Obtain: your Zonos Account Key from your Zonos dashboard by going to Settings > Integrations.
Log in: to your Canada Post Snap Ship online account.
Navigate: to Shipping > Shipping Tool.
Select: Account preferences.
Paste: or enter your Zonos Account Key into the designated field under the automatic billing option.
Save: the changes to complete the connection.

·3 weeks agoThe Zonos fee through Canada Post online is $1.99 plus a percentage of any tariff.
The base fee is higher if you are using the app at the counter and a tariff is collected (or zero if there is no tariff).

·3 weeks ago · EditedIt's no longer about tariffs. Now it's about duty and there is duty on every item processed through Zonos. I paid over $4 just for the processing fee plus duty. When is the last time you used it?

From Zonos website: "Even if your item is tariff exempt, you pay only the clearance and processing fee (either 3.99 CAD or 2.99 CAD with a photo)."
With CP Snap Ship I pay only 1.99 (all my items are tariff exempt).

Maybe I did something wrong, but I don't know what.
Items made in the USA are no longer exempt.

·3 weeks agoI use simultaneously ChitChats and CP Zonos. The later is more expensive (about 1-2 dollars), but the CP is just around the corner. ChitChats is 4 dollars in gas away, so I go there only, if I have 3-4 items or more to ship.

·3 weeks ago · EditedActually the clearance and processing fees goes up as item value goes up. Processing fee for a $1,000 item is $10.29. (plus $63 duty for items made in the USA and higher if made elsewhere).
The higher the item value the higher the processing fee.
