UPS Shipping Bug
Summary: lotzofuniquegoodies raised an issue about a bug with UPS domestic shipping that causes packages to be incorrectly flagged as "exceeding the service limit" regardless of dimensions, although international shipments are not affected. They suspect a data entry error and request assistance from __author_id_devon__ and another party from eBay. Other responses include acknowledgments and some participants providing no additional content.
Over the past couple of days I've been getting this shipping bug with UPS when creating a listing. It doesn't appear to matter what I put in for the dimensions, it's always "exceeding the service limit". Only appears to affect the domestic UPS option. International is fine. Anyone else experiencing this?

·3 months agoI can't believe this still isn't fixed, I can't revise any of my listings or make new ones. FedEx costs more money then UPS so I haven't been selling much at all.

·3 months agoCan confirm I also have this problem. It's been ongoing for at least a week. Just tried editing a listing and it's still a problem. Lisitngs with UPS standard as a shipping option cannot be changed and new ones cannot be created.

·3 months agoThe problem has not been fixed. However, recently we've discovered that adding UPS Standard back to a business policy does not give the errors it used to. So if you remove UPS from a policy first, make changes/create listings, you currently can add UPS back AFTER changes/listing. Once it's back you can't edit/create with the policy associated with a listing again until you remove UPS again though.

·3 months agoYes - it's broken. Someone in the back must have updated the UPS API and it has a bug... It's been broken for a few days now - it doesn't seem to care what size/dimensions you enter, it always just says it's too big and heavy... Didn't know 1kg, 22 x 28 x 11cm was too much for UPS... It never was before...
Still not interested in giving my business to Canada Post though - not at all interested in giving those gangsters any more of my custom.

·3 months agoIf you have UPS as a domestic shipping option, you can't add a "Custom label SKU"
It comes up as an error; the dimensions of the package are too big.
The custom SKU doesn't have anything to do with shipping.

·3 months agoI too have had the exact same problem, I actually had to opt oout of ALL my buisness policys, creat all new ones, then bulk edit them without UPS, which sucks because i prefer UPS over Canada Post 80% of the time.
The eBAy rep tried to tell me it was my fault becausee I had to many shipp[ing policies....I then got an international order that ended up costing me money because it defaulted to Canada Post...the only work around usung UPS is to drop your package dimentions to 10cm x 10cm x 10cm. That seemed to accepet,....
VERY FRUSTRATING.
Anyways i hope they get there stuff together and address this bug.
I also think that its created its own shipping policies as well.

·3 months agoIf you do use 10x10x10cm workaround, what you should do is also work out what the packages VE will be as LxWxH / 5000 kg. Then enter the higher of actual weight or VE as the weight value. You can then enter the REAL dimensions when buying a label so the label is correct.

According to the UPS page for Standard service the allowable limit should be as follows.
For UPS Standard shipping from Canada, the maximum package size is 150 lbs (68 kg) and 108 inches (274 cm) in length. The total size, calculated as length plus girth (2 x width + 2 x height), cannot exceed 165 inches (419 cm). Packages over 70 lbs require special handling stickers.
Sounds like there was a data entry error made during setup.
@devon@ebay Can you get this looked into please and advise once it has been corrected? Thanks.

·4 months agoMe too. Mine use business policies though, so the error is vague unless I edit the policy then the activity log shows UPS as the error.
I noticed it yesterday, when I was playing around with the new announced UPS to hub rates.
I was getting the error when trying 25x25x25 size, and had to make it much smaller to save the changes.
This morning I went to update the price on an item that uses a business policy with UPS as a service, and got the red banner.
Then I removed UPS from the policy to update the price.
Then added it back but all the associated listings failed to update...with the activity log showing UPS as the error:
