VAT
I live in Canada. I like to travel to the UK and sell some collectables on the UK EBay site while I am over there. Last time I did this EBay charged my buyers VAT. Most buyers could not understand wny they had to pay VAT.
Is there any way EBay can charge myself the VAT if I request them to?

·4 months agoIt is because you are registered in Canada. In the UK, VAT is buried in the pricing everywhere. It is not added after the sale. You cannot bury VAT in your pricing because you cannot remit it since you are not registered for VAT submission in the UK.
So UK people are confused that it shows ON TOP of your price, rather than within it when you say the item is located in the UK.

·4 months agoIn a nutshell, no. Why would you want to do that, anyway? 20% of the selling price is a pretty hefty chunk of change. I appreciate that selling on the UK site may be free for you now, but I don't see why you should be paying somebody else's tax instead of eBay fees.
Why are buyers asking why they're being charged VAT, anyway? Is it because they know you're a Canadian seller and they think you're the one collecting and remitting the VAT rather than eBay? As you're no doubt aware, the VAT is largely a "hidden" tax in the UK, and those buyers are paying VAT on their eBay purchases from UK sellers whether they realize it or not. Because your listings don't include VAT as part of the selling price, eBay has to charge it separately.
