·4 months agoJust watched a clip from Piers Morgon where Ryan was interviewed again. He called ebay execs "losers" that are just protecting their jobs and not looking out for shareholders. Which I agree with.
However, further in the interview he revealed that he is a Trump/Elon supporter so that really flipped my thoughts on him.

·4 months agoas soon as you heard the word 'losers' you should have known he was a Donald lover....i'm surprised he didn't say the decision was rigged....lol. Limited vocabulary those folks..

·5 months agoGamestop's share price fluctuates wildly...sometimes i don't even know what keeps them in business. I can't see them having the resources to buy Ebay...i'm not even sure why they would want to. But they have an extensive presence in Canada for now so if they did buy Ebay i don't see it affecting ebay.ca very much. It may eventually make international sales change but preumably Gatemstop is not buying it to pillage Ebay....it's only real value is in its user base so i would assume business as usual probably with the odd noticable tweek.

·5 months agoGameStop sold off it's Canada operations in 2025 and has gotten out of other countries, plus closing stores in USA (590 in 2025, 470 planned for 2026).
The CEO of GameStop has promised $2 billion in eBay cost cutting if they take over eBay.

·5 months agoah.....the Gamestop i walk by all the time and occassionaly go into is actually EB games now. Did not notice any difference (and wasn't paying that much attention tbh) so i didn't realize the change. I still doubt the Ebay sale will go thru tho. And cost cuts wouldn't necessarily mean closing international sites. If the international sites weren't profitable ebay would have already closed them. Cost cuttimg may be more about eliminating perceived redundancies (which may or may not actually exist). Cost cutting is a survival tactic not a growth strategy.

·5 months agoI agree with @ypdc_dennis. eBay directors are only reviewing the proposal because they have to, not because they want to.
GameStop is still woefully underfinanced for a deal of this magnitude, despite financing from, believe it or not, TD Bank (US affiliate of TD Canada Trust).
One of GameStop’s biggest stakeholders has already dumped his shares in the retailer. I suspect GameStop’s CEO’s strategy to boost its share price has not gone to plan.

·5 months agoOnly concern I have is the old adage "if at first I don't succeed try try again".

·5 months agoHe’s already got shares in a number of other companies, so this is just his latest "try". If the eBay thing doesn’t pan out, he’ll likely just set his sights elsewhere.

·4 months agoHis other interview (different thread) on YouTube was brilliant - he said everything eBayers wanted to hear and wasn't being rattled by the interviewer. He kept his cool and seemed very interested in making the venue better for sellers.

·4 months agoI think I replied to the thread you’re talking about, so you can find my response there. Basically, I’d be really suspicious of someone who talks a good game (pun not really intended) without the experience and finances in place to back up what he’s saying.

·4 months agoHi @marnotom! Do the Directors actually have to look at the offer ... they can't just ignore it?
tks

·4 months agoMy understanding is that, yes, they’re legally bound to review any purchase offers that come their way, @grann-4629. But I don’t think there’s any legal stipulations about how they actually go about doing that.

·4 months agoeBay is a public company, they do if they want to remain on the board and not face a massive lawsuit from shareholders.

·4 months agoeBay just rejected the offer from GameStop.

·5 months agoNo reason to be concerned unless the deal gets accepted.
Current betting is somewhere in the 1 chance in 5 that happening.
If accepted, then worry, because eBay will die as a global market, as the CEO of GameStop is USA centric.

·5 months agoas per my reply on the other thread> "It makes no never mind to me" ... I no longer have much interest in listing on eBay..."
This month I will be listing items on eBay for the final time and then my departing thoughts for eBay will be "take this site and shove it"...
