What's going on with eBay/Eis?
Summary: The discussion revolves around frustrations with eBay's customer service and technical support, particularly relating to the Canadian forums and a lack of response to reported issues. lotzofuniquegoodies criticizes eBay's absence of follow-up and mentions difficulties in resolving problems via existing communication channels. marnotom! counters that the critical point is communicating problems to eBay, despite the challenges in getting responses. Another participant shares an experience with issues in the eIS program and encounters with a reported glitch, highlighting broader concerns about eBay's support system.
What's going on with eBay/Eis? Since yesterday, I haven't had a listing appear for shipping to the USA. eBay has been a nightmare since September 2025...

I called eBay customer service once about this an he basically told me there was a glitch

My listing will not show any Calculated Rates for International Customers for any shipping service when
Ebay Discounted Rates are selected in Shipping Preferences/Carrier Rate Settings.
They do show if I switch to Standard Rates.
Canadian rates display with either selected.

·4 months agoI dont think anyone working for eBay Canada is taking any of these very serious, ongoing problems that greatly impacts our businesses, seriously.
We would actually hear from them if that were the case.

·4 months agoWell, thankfully, I don't take eBay seriously anymore either...There is so much more to online selling than eBay ...and has been for at least the past 16 years...
sirjestopublishing
·4 months agoI guess we shouldn't expect them to take it seriously either if we aren't willing to.
That's probably why they dont care.
Instead of not caring, maybe we should?
Just a thought.

Nope, not for me...I have been winding down my presence here on eBay for the past 2 years and will now maintain but a wee presence here as I can list & sell elsewhere with greater ease...
I no longer sell to the USA or International anyway...For me it's Canada only!

·4 months agoI guess I'm going to be echoing an early post of mine, but the Canadian eBay discussion boards aren't really a great barometer for gauging the seriousness of a problem. This thread asking for comments from those affected by this eIS issue has only seen a small handful of responses, for example.
If people don't email the eIS team about this problem, they're not going to get a sense of the seriousness of this problem. That's all there is to it.

·4 months agoPretty sure @devon@ebay was tagged earlier this week but if not here it goes again. One would think these forums get some kind of monitoring for urgent issues.
I can't see soo many users reporting this problem here since Monday and then NOT touching base also with support with the available methods we still have access to. There was a related post yesterday talking to support and being told first they've heard about it.
marnotom!
·4 months agoGiven that the eBay Canada forums see extremely little traffic compared to the US forums, it's very tough to discern what an urgent issue is on here. How many posts has the thread with requests for sellers to post their issues seen? And I really doubt that anybody from eBay is going to be combing Reddit for posts. Facebook, maybe.
Support isn't based in Canada and isn't really equipped to deal with issues specific to Canada, anyway. Additionally, I'd be amazed if we have more than 9% of the seller base of eBay.com, so I'm not surprised this wasn't on support's radar yesterday. If eIS US were having these issues, you can bet that eBay would know about it pretty quickly. It's largely a numbers game, @lotzofuniquegoodies.

·4 months agoThe biggest problem with support is the/any follow up. That is ongoing issue that has just been getting worse.

·4 months agoI've been making a point to ask any of my US customers having challenges navigating this on the other side to report and open tickets also. I would argue that every transaction with a reported glitch impacts both the base of the US and Canadian side as both are needed for a successful sale. Currently, I am experimenting with having the US buyer select a fixed UPS rate and then I will adjust accordingly after jumping through the Zono/CP hoops. When working well, EIS is a game changer. When it's messed up, it's definnitely frustrating.
marnotom!
·4 months agoJust out of curiosity, when did you email the eIS Canada support team?
Unfortunately, sometimes we get what we pay for.
eIS will always be a work in progress given the increasingly unpredictable nature of handling casual exports, but at this point I'd regard it as being in its infancy and prone to 💩 ing itself.

OP4 months agoI've been selling antiques and vintage items in the USA since 2001, and I never had any problems whatsoever until the end of September 2025... and since EIS was introduced, it's been a complete mess. There isn't a week that goes by without problems. In my opinion, it's using AI, and if you list a porcelain flamingo figurine, it thinks I'm selling an animal and refuses to ship it to the USA. What a nightmare...
marnotom!
·4 months agoAssuming you mean "to the USA" and not "in". I'm also assuming you're aware of what happened in the USA in September 2025 (technically, the end of August 2025) and that it wasn't eBay's doing.
If eIS is giving you that much grief, then stop using it. It's not for everyone or everything, and as I suggested earlier, vintage and antique items seem to be problematic for it, anyway. It also wasn't really designed for the type of trade environment we're now in with the US, and I think a lot of the problems you're experiencing are the result of the eIS team trying to adjust the program's coding to accommodate the various and ever-changing conditions on trade implemented by the US administration.
AI, crawlers, computer code, whatever you want to call it. The process is computer-driven and automated. The chances of a human being looking at your listing when it goes live is pretty much nil. That's why it's important to bring issues like yours to the attention of the eIS team.
It looks as though you've only been posting to the eBay Canada discussion boards since 2025. I don't know if you've been reading other threads since you got set up ten years or so ago, but a significant problem that eBay was having with the US version of eIS was with items making their way to the hub in Illinois, only to find that they were problematic to forward to their destination country (for any number of reasons) and the item would "dead end" as undeliverable at the hub. While the seller doesn't lose out in instances like this, it doesn't make for happy buyers, and I suspect that eBay is now being more restrictive with what it allows to be shipped to the hub in order to avoid situations like this. Sometimes the AI gets it right, sometimes it gets it wrong. Again, it's important to communicate issues like this to the eIS team. eIS is very much a work in progress.

Here is a portion of a follow up, follow up on the original messages to eIS back in early Feb.
"Therefore, looking for an update as it's been long. We regret that you have had to wait for so long and it is certainly causing an inconvenience.
We can see that your case have been escalated to our specialized team for a detailed review. At this time, the team has requested additional time to thoroughly assess the defects to ensure the most accurate and appropriate resolution is served.
Please be assured that our intention is solely to keep your account protected and complaint with brand policies. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding while the review is in progress.
You shall be updated as soon as we have the results
Thank you for contacting eBay. We appreciate your business and the opportunity to assist you today. Wishing you a pleasant day."
The next step will be muzak to be included with the doublespeak while you wait patiently for an actual response.

As many have reported on the assorted discussions emailing ebay goes nowhere. Either they don't have the time or they can't be bothered responding to direct emails to where we are supposed to report issues. It doesn't and isn't helping that when this new version of the forum it DIDN'T include a technical issues area like the USA has. That one should have been automatic.
Even having a bot summarize these discussions as part of the header isn't doing much of anything. It confirms the overall frustrations many Canadian users are feeling on an ongoing basis.
marnotom!
·1 week agoAs rude and callous as this may come off, a response isn't the point. What counts is getting the problem communicated to eBay. The eIS team or whatever team is handling a particular issue won't know there's a problem or the extent of a problem if sellers don't let them know about it because those sellers think that nothing's going to get done or they're not going to get a warm fuzzy response.
I agree that in this context, it's aggravating that there's no Canadian discussion board dedicated to technical issues. Perhaps Ashley figured you've got that area all sewn up. 😜
lotzofuniquegoodies
·1 week ago · EditedYou are missing the problem. There is zippo for follow up from eBay when these issues are reported to ebay. Either to CS which is supposed to be the go to. and via the email address that we've been given to use. Now that FB is DOA REAL customer service has become non-existent.
I've passed on concerns via the email address. A few times I got an auto response but that was the end of it. After that it was like watching paint dry waiting for a response. And I am not the only one to have suffered that type of non-help. How has your luck been submitting issues to eBay? Have you tried?
As for "Ashley" do we know if she is real or a bot? I believe they were announced months ago via the eBay grapevine. To date there has been nada for an appearance officially.

·1 week ago · EditedDo you have any positive feelings/suggestions/requirements about eBay fixing things that are known to be broken?
marnotom!
·4 months agoHate to break it to you, but I checked over half a dozen different shipping destinations for one of your listings and similar messages show up in the shipping section as well, whether the country is supported by eIS or not.
Yes, eBay has been a nightmare since September 2025, but doing business with the United States has been dicey for pretty much anybody for the past two years, moreso since the end of August 2025. eBay's issues are one of the ripple effects of the current US administration's direction on trade. This is new territory for pretty much anybody involved in international commerce, so SNAFUs and glitches are the new normal, unfortunately.
Vintage items and antiques have always been one of the more problematic areas for eBay's international forwarding services. I don't think the original US Global Shipping Program even permitted them when it first launched 2012-ish. Since all international destinations have been affected by this, not the United States, I'm going to guess that there's been a change or issues with shipments of similar items that has somehow put eIS in the same position that the GSP was in in 2012. Perhaps it's something to do with liability and/or insurance. Perhaps it's more complicated than that. Perhaps this will be resolved fairly quickly, perhaps it won't.
Or maybe there was a small change made to the coding for eIS that crashed the shipping calculator and what you're seeing is a glitch. Get in touch with the eIS team if you haven't already done so.
