when the buyer offer a price almost half the price listed, is this acceptable?
When a buyer offers almost half listed price of a book which is scarce , limited edition, numbeted as new , free shipping. So to make a sale, at what percentage should my counter offer would be reasonable.

Take into account that shipping costs have increased this past month due to the USA-Israel/Iran war (the exception would be Canada Post flat rate boxes). Since "free shipping" is coming out the sale price, you do not want to lose money on the sale.
Check eBay (using search option: Show Only - Sold items ) to see if any sold in the last 2-3 months.
You can also check to see what the book asking price is elsewhere.
Other considerations: What did the book cost you. And how long have you had it listed.
No guarantee that you will get a sale if you make a counteroffer. But if motivated, consider 20% off as bargaining counter offer.
