Why is my shipment in Calgary? (Ebay International Shipping Program)
Summary: rosepeak expressed concern about a package that was meant to be delivered to Mississauga but ended up in Calgary, possibly delaying its delivery. john_koenig99 shared a similar past experience and jtg204 advised filing a claim for late delivery. marnotom! pointed out potential glitches with tracking and emphasized that responsibility ends once the package reaches Mississauga. lotzofuniquegoodies suggested the package might have been missorted and recommended communicating with the buyer to explain the situation. Overall, the discussion highlights concerns and suggestions about mishandled shipments in the Ebay International Shipping Program.
I got an American buyer who made an order through the Ebay International Shipping Program, so the "ship to" address is the usual Mississauga one. I buy the label through Ebay and send off the package in Toronto, where I'm from. It usually just takes 1-2 business days to deliver to the Mississauga address but it never got delivered there. Instead, 5 days later the package is in CALGARY, AB. Why??
Here's the tracking info page: https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/track-reperage/en#/details/4013252766486129
At this rate, I'm afraid this order won't meet the estimated delivery date shown to the buyer.

·2 weeks agoTwo thoughts.
Never watch tracking.
Never ask your buyer about delivery, only respond to their queries.
Because most shippers use spoke and hub delivery systems, common sense does not come into play in choosing the route.
Your shipment is part of a larger pallet of shipments travelling together.
All estimates are estimates.
And of course, once your shipment reaches the eIS plant, you are not responsible for delivery. You may from time to time have to explain to a nervous customer that the "delivery" they see is to the plant and their purchase is still in transit.

Most likely what has happened to your parcel was it inadvertently got miss-sorted. It shouldn't happen but it does. When those things happen it can take time for it to get correctly routed and on its correct merry way. As suggested you could request a refund for a service failure. IF your buyer does happen to message you, you can loop them in and just explain that a miss-sort may have happened and could be what caused the delay. Majority of customer are understanding when you give them an explanation.
I had a recent personal shipment (coming to me) showed scanned into Calgary Friday morning. It then showed as being scheduled for delivery by 3 that afternoon. That afternoon it showed re-scheduled to Monday. Parcel was eventually delivered..... Wed afternoon. (item was picked up in Toronto on July 17th...Delivered on 29th in Calgary.) This is not a 1 of. I've had shipments going to Edmonton take a week.
Example 2. Multiple scans showing parcel processed and departing Calgary. Item was going to a Calgary address.
Example 3. Everything I send to the hub that was paid for using letter service consistently takes 12 to 15 days to arrive and then get processed by Toronto.

·3 weeks agoGiven how glitchy and crashy Canada Post’s IT has been lately, I’d say there’s a 50-50 chance that your item isn’t actually in Calgary.
Remember that with eIS, your responsibility for safe passage of the item ends once the item is accepted in Mississauga. If you shipped the item out on time, but the buyer gets antsy and files a legitimate Item Not Received case with eBay after the last estimated delivery date, it’s going to be eBay and eIS’s problem, not yours.
If it’s any consolation, US buyers purchasing from US sellers are also seeing their share of delayed and late arrivals.

OP3 weeks ago · EditedIf it's actually in Mississauga (or somewhere not too far away), shouldn't it have arrived there sooner? 5 days is exactly how long it usually takes for a shipment to get to Calgary from Toronto, so the time span tracks for what the tracking info actually says. Regardless, I hope you're right and that it's just a glitch.

·3 weeks agoThe tracking page claimed that expected delivery was tomorrow (Tuesday), which seems a bit glitchy on all sorts of levels if the item actually is in Calgary.
rosepeak
OP3 weeks agoIt doesn't say that, though? It says "Delivery standard: Aug. 6 " on the right, and on the left it says "Expected delivery: Item delayed — stay tuned for updates"
I don't see it saying Tuesday anywhere.

·3 weeks agoI probably should have noted where I saw that information as I was checking Parcelsapp and the Canada Post app in addition to the Canada Post website to see how the information compared.

·3 weeks ago · EditedIt has a new delivery estimate of Monday now (website tracking).
Update:
It's now showing delivered, if ebay shows it arrived at hub too then fill out a late claim with CP to have the postage refunded.
rosepeak
OP2 weeks agoI will do that; thanks for your help!

·3 weeks ago · EditedI don't have an answer, but since this has status updates past the 'Delivery standard: Aug. 6' and is expedited, I would file a late delivery claim (when it is delivered and not lost) to get your postage refunded for not being delivered on time. While logged into your Canada Post account go to https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/support/kb/claims/late-packages.page
Does the ebay tracking show it arrived at hub? Or only has Canada Post updates?
rosepeak
OP3 weeks agoNope, it only shows the Canada Post updates.

·3 weeks ago · EditedThat some serious sidetrack...Something similar happened to me a while back, I think last year. An order going to the eIS hub in Mississauga got sent to Montreal, for some random reason. It was quickly sent back and finally delivered to the hub. I am also in the GTA, and I purchased the label through eBay (CP), as well.
