WW2 Medals and Award Docs removed by ebay Govt Property Policy
Summary: mannteuffel raised an issue regarding WW2 medals and award documents being removed by a platform's government property policy. Several other participants, including easoss, recped, and fh991586, joined the discussion but did not provide specific content-filled responses that clarified their positions or added new information to the topic. The concern seems focused on the application of policies related to historical items.
This one makes no sense to me after decades on eBay. I've been having WW2 Medal Grouping with Award Documents removed due to this vague Government Items Policy.
It appears the culprit is the Award Document, though they are readily bought and sold on eBay, in fact that is where I bought them. The Award Document is private property as are Medals, once issued to soldiers. Appealled twice, goes no where.
Is this just eBay's idiot AI enforcing incorrectly, or is this due to eBay's heavy usage of temporary foreign workers who don't understand or know how to search the internet?

·4 months agoI really wonder when medals were included in their restrictions, because I bought a lot of WWII medals years ago. Granted it was more than 15 years, but still... There are no legal restrictions in Canada related to medals or decorations, unless you try to pass them on as awarded to you and wear them; collecting and buying/selling is allowed.

·4 months agoeBay's AI appears to have issues when dealing with anything considered historical/antique. Maybe those types of items fall into too many possible baskets. All AI needs is one basket for the system to overheat.
Or the alternative, if it's old get rid of it and get a new one.

·4 months agoYou can get a new replacement medal (even from WWII), but what's the point in collecting them? The old is the one that's interesting, like for any antiques or historical items... This site is getting away from its original goal year after year!

·4 months agoWhich medals were you offering in the listing?
FYI - The list of restricted items includes this "Government-issued medals and certificates for medals".

They may be legal to sell but eBay can restrict anything they want to restrict, it's their site so their rules.

·4 months agoIt's an AI thing. Marketplace is no different. I had an antique empty cigar box removed because i was supposedly selling tobacco. I am guessing eBay instructs the AI program to do a scan looking for certain key words and phrases and then deletes those listings.
