Ebay Shipping
Why do Americans use Ebay shipping for international shipping? Its a complete rip off do you guys not know to go to a post office and ship a item internatinally with tracking. Cost way less that Ebay shipping. Do your homework its not hard.... Good Grief

·4 months agoUS sellers tend to favour using eBay International Shipping (eIS) over more direct and/or less expensive international shipping methods because the perks associated with eIS make international shipping more attractive than shipping domestically.
As @mrdutch1001 says, once the item is accepted at the eBay/Sincro processing hub in Illinois, the seller is relieved of any responsibility for the item's safe transit to its final destination. eBay handles claims of loss or damage as well as returns and the seller gets to keep the proceeds of the sale. Basically, a sale made through eIS is "final" as far as the seller is concerned.
Yes, eIS can be pricey, but you're probably looking at the total shipping price. As a glorified forwarding service, eIS's shipping "charge" is actually two shipping charges combined: the seller's charge for shipping to the hub in suburban Chicago plus eIS's own charge for shipping the item to its destination, sometimes by more than one carrier. eIS's charges are usually pretty competitive with USPS's counter rates, but more expensive than shipments made through mail consolidators. Those perks have to be paid for somehow.
As noted elsewhere, you've been an eBay member for over 26 years. I'm not sure if you realize, but USPS's shipping rates--both domestic and international--have increased dramatically in the past ten years or so. Last I checked, the lowest possible counter rate for shipping a tracked item to Canada by USPS is US$19.40, or about CDN$27.00 at current exchange rates. I checked the listings of one of the US sellers who had recently left you feedback and found a poster they were selling with an eIS shipping charge of about US$15.50. I didn't bother going through the rigmarole of trying to figure out how much of that was their charge for getting the item to the hub.
Direct USPS shipments from the US are pretty rare these days, whether they're eBay sales or through other e-tailers, but my wife got one a couple of weeks ago: a slim, lightweight paperback book with a US$19.40 postage label on it. Besides a computer generated customs form on the front, a carbon-copy document in a clear envelope was stuck to the back of the envelope. I've read threads on the US discussion boards that suggest that shipping internationally from the US has become more complicated, and seeing some of the information required on that document, I'd tend to agree.
Finally, if you have some time and want to get more insights into why US sellers tend to favour using eIS (even though they're able to use both eIS and other international shipping methods in their listings if they so choose), have a gander at this archived thread from the now mothballed Part-Time Sellers board on the .com site. ·5 months agoIf you don't use EIS then you have to go through the Zonos app and fill in the appropriate codes. Personally I won't use Zonos as it requires personal information i am not comfortable in providing. EIS is expensive for buyers but for me is easy to navigate and gives peace of mind without the fear of buyers refusing items due to tariff surprises.

·5 months agoYou are posting to the eBay Canada Board, but we use eIS too, for slightly different reasons.
With the Trump Tariff in place, the Buyer is paying the tariff before we even see their address.
This stops the problem of buyers who are asked to pay the tariff on their doorstep and Refuse the package since their Beloved Leader told them that other nations pay the tariffs.
Because he never lies.
The apparently higher price is mostly import fees, duty, sales taxes, and the Trump Tariff.
Part is a service fee from eIS. Probably less than $5.
The shipping is slower because it is two -step. We send to a plant in Mississauga ON and they send to the final importer/buyer.

why do Canadians use eBay shipping for International shipping?
Why? ..because eIS is for the benefit of the seller, it absolves the sellers of any responsibility after their items reach the eBay shipping Hub, as eBay takes care of everything thereafter.
and IF you are not a seller, you would not understand that! eIS is set up for sellers and is NOT for the benefit of the buyer! Perhaps read up on the eIS system for a better understanding from the seller's perspective!
