As you are likely aware, after 3 weeks of national strikes, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have commenced rotating strikes. Rotating strikes mean that only limited areas of the country will be impacted at a time.
Given this change, and confirmation that parcels are being accepted into the network, Canada Post services have been re-enabled on eBay Labels. All active listings remain unchanged and buyers can still view and purchase your eBay listings as before.
However, this labour action will continue to affect the flow of domestic, inbound, and outbound shipments using Canada Post services and may impact the operations of Canadian eBay sellers. Further, there remains the risk of further work stoppages or escalations.
To minimize the impact of these strike actions on your business and customers, we recommend the following:
- Alternative shipping options: UPS and FedEx services remain accessible through eBay Labels, and third-party couriers are available. Local Pick-up is also a great option.
- Handling Time: we recommend you review your handling time settings if you have changed them since the strike began. As we’ve already extended estimated delivery dates (EDDs) for all Canada Post services, adding extra handling time will increase the EDDs on your listings and make them less attractive to potential buyers.
- Communicate proactively with buyers
The steps we’ve taken to protect your account below are still in effect:
- Late Shipment Rate (LSR) defects
- Valid tracking upload rate
- Negative or Neutral Feedback if you uploaded tracking before the case was opened and have a physical scan from the carrier
- Seller-initiated cancellations
Please note that, due to high demand, UPS has implemented a surcharge of $0.75 for all domestic shipments. This surcharge has been reflected on eBay Labels and in calculated shipping.
eBay International Shipping
eBay International shipping is continuing to roll out to Canadian sellers, offering additional ways to access buyers outside of Canada. eBay International Shipping uses a variety of shipping partners to get your item to its buyer, and will continue to operate over the course of the Canada Post strike.
As always, thank you for selling on eBay.
