Good news for sellers: later this month, eBay will be updating its standards to include new protections for sellers who accept PayPal as a form of payment from buyers.

Starting with the November seller evaluation, the period of time that a PayPal Purchase Protection claim will be counted as defect under eBay seller performance standards will be reduced from 45 days to 30 days after an item’s latest estimated delivery date to the buyer. This means that, while a buyer has the option to file a PayPal Purchase Protection claim after this date (and up to 180 days after payment), that claim will only count as a defect if made within 30 days of delivery.

As always, only those eBay Money Back Guarantee requests made within 30 days from the latest estimated delivery date will be counted as defects under eBay seller performance standards. It’s important to remember that buyers on eBay can file either a PayPal Purchase Protection dispute or open an eBay Money Back Guarantee case on any transaction, but not both.
