"get someone as good a Toews"
OK - Assuming Harper appoints someone "as good as Toews", would the job of the new Minister of Public Safety be to provide good government or worry about a third opposition party?
Where are the priorities?

The priority should be to crush the liberals and scrape them off the boots after.

That is what is happening in Egypt.
Does not matter if one approves or not of the election results of a year ago. The goal of that "elected" government (now deposed by the army) seemed to be to crush the opposition instead of governing the country for all.
What is the point of democracy when priorities are so misplaced?

The problem with politics in a nutshell. Political parties govern with one eye on the next election. They do what they think is best for the party - not for the country. No party will take any drastic action that might actually make a difference, and possibly alienate the voters at the same time. We need drastic actions to turn Canada around. Some of those actions may be unpalatable in the short term. Politicians will not risk taking those actions. They are far more concerned with re-election.

You cannot compare Canada to Egypt.
Unfortunately, you are probably correct.
Canadians could learn from the actions of the citizens of countries like Egypt.
Egyptians take the governing of their country seriously.
They are prepared to protest and possibly put their lives on the line for the future of their country.
It is only when Canadians learn that they need to be active in the governing of their country - that we will have any significant change.
I don't advocate violence, but civil protest and civil disobedience work. Canadians are too **bleep** complacent for their own good.
Idle No More was a small version of what is happening in Egypt - but where has it gone?
