I have read on ebay about stores but Im a little confused. I read something briefly about less fees with an ebay store but there was not really enough detail to explain exactly what that meant.

Can someone who has a store please tell me anything they might know about this. I want to open up a store, but only if there are some advantages.

Lower listing fees, much higher FVF fees.

Store items don't show up in eBay searches.

The advantages: lower listing/upgrade fees, longer duration listing. This will save you $.87 per listing (with gallery), more if it an item you have to list more than twice to sell.

Disadvantages: Subsciption Fees of $15.95 per month. Higher Final Value Fees. Since your items are low priced, FVF will be 8% rather than 5.25%, so on a $10 item you will pay $.80 rather than $.53. Overall you save about $.60, but you have to pay the $15 monthly fee from that, so you need roughly 27 sales from your store inventory items each month just to break even.
Lower exposure - Store inventory items do not show up on a regular search, so you have to run regular auctions to bring traffic to your store. These do not get discounted insertion fees.

Stores work extremely well if you are selling goods which lend themselves to the store concept. I sell books, and an ebay store makes a wonderful online bookstore - 70 - 80% of my ebay sales are from my store. Music and movies do very well too, but if you are selling a bunch of different things, one-offs, it is not so great.

Listing is very cheap - US.03 cents for a 20 day listing with gallery. Final value fees are 8% (versus 5.25% at auction) but you can get 75% off that if you drive the traffic to your store yourself through website or email links.
Store items do come up in ebay searches if there are less than 20 or so results from regular auctions.

Go to the 'eBay stores' discussion board and read up on it - the boardies there are very helpfull too.
