At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

Something has happened that is a first for me in all my years of online shopping.

I have a tracking number that shows an item was delivered to my address.. I was at home yesterday when it was supposedly delivered and believe me, it wasn't!

Here is the tracking number .. LZ427961263US

I contacted Canada Post ..and they say I have to contact the seller to initiate an investigation. I am so upset ..what does this have to do with the seller? The seller has fulfilled their obligation ..it is Canada Post's mistake. Worst part is that Canada Post can't even "see" where the item was delivered  on their database or whatever the heck it is they use for tracking, so they can't verify the address this item was delivered to.

The tracking indicates there was a processing error and a problem with the address, prior to the supposed delivery.

I know that Ebay is so adversarial  .... I don't want to cause problems for the seller who has a wonderful record and has done nothing wrong ..but at the same time don't want to take a loss of  more than $200.

Any advice?

I need to try to calm down. I'm pretty upset.

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

Write them and explain the situation and ask them to please Call CP or USPS or whoever and open a claim for lost product and let the seller know the whole situation..

You will have to get your refund from the seller and the seller will have to get refund from  Carrier or delivery service  and don't let the seller push your waittime past 44 days from purchase date without filing item not received case..

Make sure you tell the seller everything was great with them but because you still haven't received it you need to protect your moneyzzz...

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

Thanks so much ..you are right, my emotions are totally clouding my judgement. I am going to take a deep breath .... wait for 24 hours and then compose a very thoughtful letter explaining the situation.

I was ballistic when I checked the tracking this AM and saw the "delivered" status ..ran around outside in my pajamas in the frigid cold looking for the parcel ..and then came in and had a meltdown ..my husband looked very pleased to head out to work ..wonder why!!!!

Then I ranted to the Canada Post customer rep  at 7AM, the minute the call centre opened.  Poor lady, what a way to start her day!

Time for me to chill out.

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

Well, this has just taken a new twist.

I have received new tracking info concerning this item which was"supposedly" delivered to me yesterday  afternoon ... it's now showing as being back at the sort facility, being processed. Crazy, you bet!

Once again I phoned Canada Post and a rep told me the delivered status was incorrect ..it was merely delivered to the local sort facility, not to my house.

What a mess ...when the seller looks at the tracking status it shows that it has been  delivered.

When I look at my purchase history on Ebay, it shows it has been  delivered.

I gave the CP rep my address ... here's hoping it WILL actually be delivered.

Will update.

In the meantime ..is it too early for a small whiskey????

Oh dang ..yes it is!

Coffee will have to suffice.  Bah humbug. Smiley Happy

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

Did you call immediately?

That may be the problem.

Well, not the first problem. The delivery person was being lazy by not leaving the parcel (I'm guessing at $200 it may have been Signature Confirmed?) or even knocking on your door. Leaving a delivery slip gets him back completing his shift faster.

I'm assuming that you got a Delivery Attempted slip and that's how you learned that the parcel was looking for you.

Once back  in the truck, the carrier will rturn the undelivered parcels to the terminal where he picked them up. At that point, it often takes 24 hours for them to get back into the tracking system.

Which may be why it appears to be back at the terminal.

ACT LOCALLY

Call or drop in to your local Postal Outlet and see if they have it. If they don't, call or drop in to your local Post Office and ask if they have it. Ask counter staff to post a note for their colleagues that you are looking for it.

At the Post Office, you can also complain to the Post Master that the carrier did not attempt to deliver even though you were at home.

In passing, a lot of parcel delivery is not done by  Canada Post employees, but is sub-contracted to private companies, some with more interest in their bottom line than in actual service.

If you did this on line, it could be just a typo. Someone incorrectly entered that the parcel was delivered when it should have been entered as recieved at terminal.

In the long run, you will not be out the $200. If the parcel does not reappear, you can start an Item Not Received dispute. The seller is responsible for his sub-contractor's actions (or in this case, lack of action).

It's not fair, and as a seller, I know it's really not fair, but that is the chain of command.

If PP turns you down, you can then go to the credit card you actually paid from (PP is just the processor) and ask about a chargeback.

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

Personally, I'd take a deep breath, and wait 2 or 3 days.  Even if you haven't received an Attempted Delivery card, I think your parcel will find you.  If after 3 days either the card or the parcel has not shown up on your doorstep, then I'd contact the seller and follow up at your Post Office too.

As 'femmefan' mentioned, people can make mistakes when they hit the keyboard.  Since everything is automated where tracking is concerned, it may just have been a slip of the finger on someone's part in inputting the information.  Quite often I find that the people at the postal outlets (in drugstores, etc.) are less careful than Canada Post clerks at Post Offices -- occasionally I've had just the opposite occur to your situation, where a parcel is showing as still undelivered when the buyer had in fact picked it up several days before.  Doubtless some clerk forgot to scan the parcel when the buyer picked it up, or didn't hit the "delivered" or "enter" buttons.

I think most sellers would tell you that it's actually very rare for a tracked parcel not to show up, even if a bit delayed.  But do check with your Post Office and then contact your seller (in a very nice way) if it hasn't shown up in another couple of business days.

By the way, was this parcel coming from the United States?  Was it purchased through the GSP by any chance?  New tracking #s are issued once the parcels are handed over to Canada Post, so it occurred to me that might be what you were seeing.  Just an afterthought, obviously not applicable if your item was shipped from within Canada.

The "LZ" prefix and "US" suffix on the tracking code indicate that the package is an oversize letter (First Class International) mailed from the United States.  The tracking information on the Canada Post website is a bit different from that on the USPS website, but both indicate that the Global Shipping Program had no involvement in this shipment.

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

I 'm very pleased to be able to update this thread with the news the "parcel" arrived this morning, in perfect shape, no problems.

So, for some reason the parcel was sent back to the processing centre yesterday, and the tracking info incorrectly updated to indicate it had been delivered.

So, all's well that ends well. Phew, huge sigh of relief! And if it ever happens again I will be calmer. Promise.

Now,  for those who enjoy a "wee drop" ... I would like pass the quaich around, filled to the brim with  Glenfiddich, and say many thanks for your kind help and sage advice ..it was much appreciated!

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

I was waiting with bated breath and had to check back on this one.  Seriously, I'm so pleased all worked out o.k for you.  Yes, sometimes I get my knickers in a twist too over stuff - been lucky, not on ebay though.  I called Dr. Drew to see if he could stage an intervention for you, but he's too busy with the Bieb and Ford.  We'd hate to see us buyers turn to drink - but the Royals, who live to a ripe old age seem to have the key to longevity - the Queen loves her Dubonnet and Gin and of course so did her lovely mum.Smiley Very Happy

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

This is why I think buyers should ignore tracking. The only good it does is for the seller, who can win an Item Not Received dispute by showing the Delivery has been Confirmed.

For buyers it is a waste of money and a source of stress.

The buyer has the PP and eBay Buyer Protection Policy in case an item is lost or damaged in shipping.

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

I have to agree Femme.

All the tracking infomation ever did was cause me grief.

The first rep at Canada Post was utterly useless telling me that the parcel had likely been delivered to a wrong address. She did  not even entertain the possibility (which I raised) that  the "successfully delivered" online tracking status might be a simple error.

But ,thanks to the advice from people here  on this thread, if a such a scenario should occur (parcel claimed to be delivered by PO but not) and the parcel never turns up, I will now know how to proceed, and not panic like I did yesteday AM.

Again, thanks folks! I really appreciate the help I got.

Re: At a complete loss ..don't know how to proceed

BTW, here is the info that got my knickers in such a knot yesterday.

I was foolish enough to check the tracking in "my purchases", and this was the  tracking info as it appeared to me and the seller at that point.  Seeing the "incorrect address" info probably set off the panic.

Here is the final tracking indicating the SNAFU.
