BEWARE RE: Canada Post Label Cancellations

Hi. I thought I'd remind everyone to make sure they are getting refunded for any of their label cancellations. So far, Canada Post has failed to refund me twice. When you're in the heat of listing and shipping you don't always think to follow up on those label cancellations. If you think they're always getting done beware!

I cancelled one on October 21, 2008 and then printed up a new label the same day. The cancelled label was for an expedited shipment and the tracking clearly shows that the package was never mailed. Of course things got busy around that time and I had long forgotten all about that cancelled label until today. Turns out Canada Post never refunded me.

I have had to bug paypal with just about every label I have canceled to get refunded.
Luckily there hasn't been many.

I have had to chase down every single refund requested from Canada Post via Paypal. In my experience, those cancelled labels are never willingly refunded by Paypal. Even when you call in with full details and the refund is weeks past due, they will still try to do everything possible to delay: tell you to wait a few more weeks, to call Canada Post, or EVEN tell you the label has been refunded when it hasn't.

I never have a problem with insurance claims etc. when dealing directly with Canada Post. The problem only occurs when Paypal is the middleman.

I always make a note on the calendar when the refund is due and call Paypal for compensation the day after that.

How do you get a refund for a lost international package through Canada Post? Do you have to contact them directly or do you do it through PayPal?

Anything to do with the package itself, such as being lost, damaged or tracking you deal with Canada Post.

I went through my cancels. All show refund pending, all the way since January. Does this mean paypal owes me this money or does it always say refund pending?

How do I appeal to get my money back?

OMG

I called paypal about this and the fact I haven't received any money.

They told me CP is supposed to give me the money. I told them I haven't received anything for months, half a year and that is not true. I was polite through all of this. They then repeated it again and hung up on me.

What exactly is going on?!

I've never had a cancellation yet, but it's only a matter of time, I guess. Thanks for the post- I will remember to follow up on any cancellations in the future.
That said, I only use the Paypal shipping tool for about 40-50% of my shipping - the rest I do directly with my local Can. Post guy at the Post Office. (I get a better rate from him than Paypal offers).
