Vancouver stabbing attack suspect facing 12 charges
The suspect arrested in the stabbing of seven people at a Vancouver apartment building Thursday night has been charged with 12 counts of assault.
The suspect has been identified by police as Jerome Bonneric, 33, of Vancouver. He has been charged with:
Four counts of aggravated assault.
Four counts of assault with a weapon.
Three counts of common assault.
One count of assaulting a peace officer.
Bonneric was arrested inside the building a short time after the stabbings. Police say they believe he was visiting a friend in the building at the time of the attacks. He was not previously known to police.
Investigators are trying to determine what prompted the attacks and are investigating whether he has any history of mental health issues. Police said there doesn't appear to be any connections between him and the victims.
Worked in wholesale bakery
CBC News has learned Bonneric worked at a wholesale bakery in Port Coquitlam, B.C., from April 2011 until December 2012.
Before April 2010 he lived in Paris, France and worked in real estate. He has a bachelor's degree in business law and a master's in real estate from two different French schools.
As of Friday evening, two victims remained in hospital, one in stable condition and the other in very serious condition.
CBC News has learned two of the victims are a retired couple who live on the first floor. They opened their door to investigate a commotion in the hall and the wife was hit with a hammer and husband was stabbed. The husband is one of the two victims still in the hospital.
The incident took place just before 7 p.m. PT Thursday on several floors of an apartment building in the 1200 block of Barclay Street, in Vancouver's downtown West End.
Six people — three men and three women — were taken to hospital for treatment. A seventh victim and a police officer were treated at the scene. The victims range in age from their 20s to their 60s.

On the other hand - just imagine the damage he could have inflicted if he had got his hands on an AR15 semi auto with a couple of 130 round clips.
Old enough to know better. Young enough to do it again. Crazy enough to try

AR15's are a restricted weapon in Canada and can only be owned by those with a restricted weapon permit and only used on target ranges. Large clips in Canada....a complete no-no.
Who has the largest retail sales of assault rifles and guns in general, as well as ammo, in the US?...........Walmart. Not only that but in most Walmarts the guns are easily accessible and ammo is open to be stolen from shelves (that may be changing). In 2009 two teenagers shoplifted bullets from a Walmart and then went on a crime spree of theft in Indiana.

Would they bring back the gun registry? Well if Trudeau was elected I don't think they would. If my memory serves me correctly I think he was asked that question and he said 'no'. However I wouldn't be surprised if they left it up to the individual Provinces.
A knife registry? LOL ....that will never happen. To begin with they don't have serial numbers and secondly lots of people carry knives from housewives to boy scouts, hunters, farmers.......and many. many more.
There was a time that people were encouraged to carry a knife because it came in so handy in life. I've carried a knife on my belt since I was a teenager (before that also but not on a regular basis). The one I have carried for about 20 years is an Arapaho with a 4in blade made by Case. I have used it in so many places in life I've lost count. When I go out in the woods I carry two knives and they're a lot longer and for different purposes.
A gun has one major purpose from the time of it's inception and that is to kill. A knife however has a million uses and those uses can crop up anytime and anywhere. About four years ago I came across and accident that had just happened and one of the cars, a van, was upside down in a ditch. The mother was fine but her baby was in the back seat strapped in the car seat upside down and she couldn't get it undone. So I crawled in, pulled out my knife and cut the straps. (the kid was fine as well...but really noisy) You never know when you will need a knife. To register knives would be like registering peoples hands.

It would take my wife a year to register all the knives she has in the kitchen.
And, she knows how to use them.
I always get in trouble - can't find a screwdriver - use a kitchen knife.
Bad idea!

We'll need to register our golf clubs and baseball bats as well.
