Best Offer?

I had a buyer who sent a best offer of $10 for my $12 item. I counter-offered $11. Then today instead of buying at the counter-offered price she bought and paid for he item at its original $12 while the counter-offer was still active. 

Am I obligated to refund the $1 difference? What would you do in this situation?

Maybe they didn't notice your counter offer? I would assume if they wanted the $1 they would be contacting you, so if they haven't maybe just continue on as normal, or you could just be a nice guy and volunteer the $1, might score you some bonus points with the buyer. Either way it's a buck.

If it's only $1.00 involved, I think I'd be inclined to refund it as a gesture of good will and "customer-friendliness".  But I would certainly mention in refunding that I wanted to honour my counter-offer, even if the buyer hadn't noticed it.  

I think 'sequins'  may be right that the buyer didn't notice the counter-offer (remember, it only shows up in the buyer's Messages).  If they didn't check their inbox but were very keen to get the item, they may have just missed your counter-offer in their excitement.  

It's very likely the buyer will notice the message with the counter-offer after they've paid, so I think I'd refund for that reason alone; otherwise you may have a rather unhappy buyer on your hands over a $10-12 item.

Refund the dollar, and advise the buyer that you've done so.

Weird to think that a buyer with 1000+ feedbacks would not notice a counter offer... I guess I'll refund the dollar when I get the book shipped and mentioned the $1 refund in my "your book has been shipped" message.

Or maybe they figured that since I'm already listing the book at the lowest price out of all sellers also selling it on ebay they figured I deserve the $12... lol
