Bidder Request Cancellation What to Do

Hi, first time selling here - and had a bidder email me saying they didn't place the bids on the item.  There's 2 bids on the item with the same amount from them - one 22 Aug at 16:34 - and the next at 23 Aug at 9:11.

Should I just cancel both?  Would it mess up the next bidder - what if they've already bid on something else?  Any experienced advice is appreciated.

It's not next bid, it's higher bidder, he/she can't outbid yourself. And yes it will mess up bidding history.

You can cancel bids only under certain rules.

Check eBay Help page.

You can cancel bids only under certain rules.

Since one of those rules is 'bidder's request' , go ahead and cancel as soon as possible.

I am not sure what you are waiting for.

Three hours ago you were advised to cancel the bids.  With only a few hours to go (the listing ends tonight) waiting will not improve the situation, quite the contrary.  The current high bid may prevent other potential bidders from placing their bids and you end up losing.

Thanks for everyone's advice - as for the delay - which I realize was not the best - I was waiting to get out of a medical appointment - couldn't do anything while there . . .

BTW - what causes these supposed situations?  Is it possible for a glitch to occur - for a bid to be made without a buyer actually making one or two?

As I said - I'm new to selling - but have bid and bought for a number of years.  Never happened from my end as a buyer so just wondering.

Also, aside from blocking this bidder (they are supposedly a reliable buyer so I am confused by what happened) is there any place else to report the activity (assuming it could be a glitch

Thanks.

It's unlikely that it's a glitch.  The bidder may have changed their mind or won another item and didn't want to tell you that.  There is no real way to know if they are a 'reliable buyer' or not as all buyers have 100% feedback.

Has the bidder already been outbid? Or are they the highest bidder?

I would be more concerned or at least curious about why someone is bidding more than the actual dollar of the gift cards.

I know that gift cards are sold on here everyday without problems but I do think that it is one of the more risky items to sell. The buyer can either say that they didn't receive it  or use it and say that it doesn't work.  I do believe that the majority of buyers are honest but just letting you know that there are some risks.

It's a mystery why they bid, it's obvious why they want to cancel.  Odds are very high the 0 fb underbidders will be non payers or scammers

Like pjcdn said most likely the bidder changed their mind or something like that.  If someone else REALLY was using their account they would be alot more alarmed.  Anytime someone asks you to remove their bid, DO IT.  The last thing you want is an unhappy winner who doesn't pay and you have to file an Unpaid Item case and wait to relist it.  If you want to block the person that is up to you but I don't if the person asks nicely to cancel.  Anyone can make a mistake.  There is no such thing as "accidentally bidding" but someone bidding too soon without shopping around means they just need to learn a bit not that they are a bad person or a scammer.  Chances are if your bidder was in the USA they got the currencies mixed up and thought it was a bigger bargain than it was or something.  As for reporting, since it is not likely a glitch or an account hack there is nothing to report.  I'd be more worried about those BRAND NEW zero fb users who are bidding on your item only.  In case you didn't know, you ARE allowed to remove bids WITHOUT the person having asked and then block them if you want.  Sellers do that when someone bids on their items and it turns out that the bidder mostly leaves negs and complaints.

But if this please-cancel-my-bid bidder is in no danger of actually winning the item, what harm exists from allowing it to stay?

the bidder in question bid $500 on a $20 gift card, they were going to win.

None, I suppose, unless any of the others cancels their own bids and leaving a winning whiner.   🙂  Also if someone wants their bid removed I say just do it and make them happy.  If they think you're a happy helpful seller then later when they smarten up they might become an OK buyer.

Something else I noticed is that this listing says "email delivery" but that must mean there is no actual card at least the buyer is not going to get one.  That sounds prohibited from this policy I looked up

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/policies/gift.html

First on the Not allowed list  "Gift card codes or electronically delivered gift cards".  No new seller wants to do the wrong thing and I was wondering if the OP should just scrap this.  If there is an ACTUAL card that can be mailed with tracking even if the seller loses a bit because a reduced sale is better than a total loss but with no actual item this can go terribly wrong.

But nobody knew that at the time.  Why would any person with a FB that high meaning they know a thing or two about eBay bid that much on an item with an obviously far lower value?  The whole thing smells fishy to me.

I'm fairly certain we're not allowed to deliver goods by email.

Maybe it was a kid or roommate pulling a prank on an open ebay app left on a laying-around iPhone.

I agree it doesn't make much sense.

No one is going to mail a $20 gift card with tracking even if they have one to mail
