CANADA POST SCREWS US YET AGAIN

HI All,
I got the word today from the Canada Post Outlet that ALL packages are now going to be charged the cubed weight.
SO what I used to be able to ship as a small package to the US weighting under 500 grams in an 8x6x6 box is now going to cost $8.50. Get this .....length x width x height= divided by 6000 = cubed weight Even if the box weights 200 grams the rate is $8.50

Another *&%#ing over by Canada Post.

Why not send it by small packet? No tracking but they are insured at least now.

Small packets are not cubed. They are a flat rate so long as the package is under weight and measurement requirements. I'm assuming you are told this about sending a small package? Think the postal clerk screwed you not Canada Post.

Are you sure? Because it doesn't make any sense. If I send a package that measures 25cm x 25 x 25 and weighs 500g, it qualifies by weight and measurement as a small packet according to CP rules. If you cube it, it comes to a cubed weight of 2.6kg which does not qualify as a small packet. What would this package cost then? All other methods (Xpresspost, Expedited) require cubed weights. I would call CP if I were you and verify this story.

CANADA POST SCREWS US YET AGAIN

I'll find out this week -- I have 175 auctions closing -- and almost everything I sell is Small Packet. Heh heh. If it costs me more than $3.35 to send it, I'm screwed. 😛

I work on high volume low margin... Eeek.

Todd is right. If you are located in Brockville you should be travelling to the US once or twice a week to do your mailing. Its quick, painless (except for the $9 in fee/tolls) and you will save $$$.

When I went thru Prescott customs last week, they were telling me there are a lot of ebay sellers doing the same thing.

If I lived 30 minutes closer I would be going once a week.

Is anyone in the Barrie area heading across the border to take advantage of this USPS. I think we are too far north to make it worth our while.

Even from Richmond Hill with the price of gas, the wear and tear on your car, the agravation of the traffic on the QEW to the border... how can it be cheaper? Maybe it is, but I dont see it as being so.

Ok Boxes Free ~~~
Items arrive with Tracking in 3 to 5 Days to all of America
Prices are 50% cheaper
No Volume sizing of the Boxes ~~~the weight is the weight

You can use the Ebay check out requiring a Zip code. No more losing money for the state that really far away

Going once a week to start would be still worth it

Oh ...fill up in America with the Gas and get the Cheese for the family lol

To get back to the OP's point - has anyone else heard of this? I suspect you got an uninformed postal clerk.

I hope you just got an uninformed postal clerk ....

According to the Canada Post website

http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/offerings/small_packets/us/about_specifications-e.asp

there are definite size restrictions for small packet. As long as you fall within those dimensions you should be ok.

On the other side, I had an expedited parcel going to the US that they wouldn't take because the box was too small!

I just came from the post office -- Small Packet rates are still $3.35 surface & $5.05 air.

I think you just got an uninformed postal clerk...

:)

I live in Mid-Alberta (Edmonton), so driving to the border is definitely not feasible. And most of my products go out Small Packet, so it's still cheap for me. Sending to my Canadian customers is annoying, however. I always get asked "why is canada shipping so high when you *live* in Canada)? *sigh*. I'm finally putting the answer to that question in my listings...

auctiondropnship - I'm going to have to call you on that statement! Shipping by USPS may be fast, but it's definitely not 3-5 days to North America. I've bought a lot of stuff from the US, and even when I know the seller shipped right away, it's still 6-7 business days. I'd say 3 days is a "within the same state" possibility, and 5 days is nearby states. I don't think 5 days to anywhere in North America is happening very often, even if USPS is faster than CP.

PS: Do you get commission from USPS? You sound like a walking advertisement 😛

3-5 days

Of coarse when I stated this , its to All of America not Canada. North America includes Canada . The comment was shipping product from within America

I shipped Items today from WA, and FL will get them in 5 days
