Can. Dollar showing on store?

I list mostly on .com and always in US dollars. I am finding that when I go to my store now, all the prices are shown in Canadian dollars.

Are buyers in the US seeing Canadian dollar amounts when they go to our stores?

I just checked, and the exchange rate they show is the actual rate, not the rate we get when we change our US to CA on Paypal. It looks as if we are getting more in the exchange rate than we actually are when buyers see it and must think we are getting more than we are.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

Two different questions.

As far as currency is concerned, it has always been like that for all currencies listed on eBay (not just the Cdn$).  The approximate conversion value to or from US$ is always expressed using the daily wholesale (mid point) conversion value.

For example, if US$ 100 = Cdn$ 130 at the wholesale level (the rate banks use when dealing with each other), eBay will show Cdn$130 if the item is listed at US$100.

When the transaction is settled, the buyer will pay US$100 if paying in US$ or appx Cdn$ 134 if paying in Cdn$ (the difference being the "spread" or conversion fee charged by banks, PayPal, etc...)

When the transaction is settled, the seller will receive US$100 if paid in US$ or appx Cdn$ 126 if paid in Cdn$ (the difference being the "spread" or conversion fee charged by banks, PayPal, etc...)

That is the way it has always been for all currencies and it makes sense.

As far as the front page of your store showing Cdn$, I frankly cannot explain it.  It is contrary to everything I know about eBay.

When I check my eBay store on eBay.ca, all values shown are in Cdn$ (whether actual or converted)

http://stores.ebay.ca/Quality-Stamps-at-Fair-Prices

When I check my eBay store on eBay.com all values are in US$ (whether actual or converted)

http://stores.ebay.com/Quality-Stamps-at-Fair-Prices

However, when I check the front page of your store, I see Cdn$ on both eBay.ca and eBay.com (the listings are OK).  Then I started checking other Canadian sellers and I found the same problem:

http://stores.ebay.ca/mrelmwoodsautoparts

http://stores.ebay.com/mrelmwoodsautoparts

http://stores.ebay.ca/sylviebee

http://stores.ebay.com/sylviebee

However, eBay shows other sellers store front page correctly:

http://stores.ebay.ca/zwiggystreasures

http://stores.ebay.com/zwiggystreasures

It may be a glitch or it may be related to where the store was actually created (eBay.com or eBay.ca)

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

Thanks for your reply Pierre. Yes, I understand the difference in the actual conversion rate and the one given by Paypal, that is not the thing that concerns me, it is that buyers are seeing a rate in Canadian that I don't get, and I am sure some think that it is overcharging, especially on higher priced items.

I have only seen the store Can dollar coming up in the last few days, I hope it's a glitch and not a new feature along with the CA$ always defaulting on the listing page.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

" I am sure some think that it is overcharging"

I frankly do not think so.

You list in US$ because you feel the majority of your buyers are US based.  As such, they see the US$ value only when looking at the listings, their invoice is in US$ and they pay in US$.  Nothing to worry about from that perspective.

For Canadian buyers, they already know - from all their other purchases on eBay - that they will be charged approximately 2.5% more by PayPal to cover the conversion fee.  They know it has nothing to do with you.

I find it annoying that eBay would show Cdn$ converted value on the front page of stores by some Canadian sellers when viewed on eBay.com.  Hopefully someone at eBay will be able to share some light on this issue.

I took a quick look at eBay.uk.  I found a "shop" (store) listing in Sterling.  When viewed on eBay.com, the front page correctly showed all values in approximate US$ as it should be:

http://stores.ebay.com/mikeciren?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

From this experience, from looking at my own store and stores from long time sellers registered on ,com, I conclude that the problem is related to stores opened on .ca (nothing to do with site where the listings are listed).

I will be contacting Raphael and provide him a link to this thread.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

Could this difference be due to the store format being used by the Canadian seller?

There is a new store format and an old store format.

Elmwood uses the new store format, and on eBay.com  the prices in the store are shown in Canadian dollars.

With Pierre it is the old store format on eBay.com, with prices showing in US dollars in the store.

That was my very first thought too, when I read your post.

My store was established on .ca, and I list exclusively in $US.  Could you click on my store icon and take a quick look to see if you get the same result, i.e. currency shown in $Cdn on my storefront listings when viewed on .com, and different conversion values from the norm?

If so, I am going to be very displeased with eBay, glitch or not.  They should not be making a significant change like this without informing sellers.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

OP's store is in the new format, and the prices in the search view, with many listings on a page,  in the store on eBay.com, are in Canadian dollars.

New store format ......versus .....Old store format

Canadian dollars .....versus ...... US dollars

I see C$ on eBay.ca and US$ on eBay.com for your store rose-dee. You have old store format so perhaps cumos55 is right with old store showing US$ and new store showing C$ only.

My store is old format and show currency correctly.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

I just converted my store to the new format as a test and my store shows C$ on eBay.ca and C$ on eBay.com. So as cumos55 suggested, it appears to be a new store format issue.

I will leave for a few hours so I can log out and clear cache and temp files and reboot my computer to see if it is an old eBay code problem.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

No, not new store vs old store. I have 2 stores, one is old format and one is new format. Both are showing prices in U.S. Dollars when I checked just now on eBay.com

I checked using my iPad not my laptop but don't think that should make a difference.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

BTW, I only list using turbo lister so I wonder if it has to do with listing using the eBay form?

Are they on eBay.com?  eBay.ca?  or one each?

I tried to revert to my old store, but got a "sorry, unable to revert to old store" message, I thought I would try it.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

I started my store on eBay.com... moved to eBay.ca  when the shipping cap on books became a reality on eBay.com.

Today my store.. in old format is on eBay.ca

All of my pricing is in US dollars.

My store is old format with US dollars showing IN the store on eBay,com

I did clear cache, cookies, and windows temp files and restart my computer. No change, new store format shows C$ on eBay.com.

I did not expect the clear and restart to do anything. I just wanted to post this info so eBay.ca staff will not suggest to try this.

I list in C$ on eBay.ca listings and in $US on eBay.com. My store is on ebay.ca. More info for anyone checking into this.

Currently my store is in new store format. I will switch back to old store format later in the day or tomorrow. I want to check out the new store look and feel out of curiosity. I have a link at the top of my store page to switch back but I understand it will only show for a few days/weeks from posts I read.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

For a Canadian seller who

Lists in US dollars on eBay.com

and

Lists in Canadian dollars on eBay.ca

With the new format for the store....It is logical to show prices in ALL listings in the store

in US dollars on eBay.com     and

in Canadian dollars on eBay.ca

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

Hi triber, looks like it might have just been a glitch. When I looked at an item in your store just now it showed up in U.S. Dollars for me.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

I just checked and both eBay.ca and eBay.com front page of the store show prices in Cdn$.

I use Firefox although I do not see how a browser would change the currency!

Vintagenorth - the problem is not with individual listings but the front page of the store.
