Can. Dollar showing on store?

I list mostly on .com and always in US dollars. I am finding that when I go to my store now, all the prices are shown in Canadian dollars.

Are buyers in the US seeing Canadian dollar amounts when they go to our stores?

I just checked, and the exchange rate they show is the actual rate, not the rate we get when we change our US to CA on Paypal. It looks as if we are getting more in the exchange rate than we actually are when buyers see it and must think we are getting more than we are.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

Just went and checked my stores again. My store with the older format shows okay in U.S.$ when viewed on .com but the one with the new format now shows Cdn $ only. Just the storefront, clicking on an item shows in US dollars.

Checked on my iPad, so using Safari. Will try om my PC later using Chrome.

This is not good! Like triber, most of my sales are to the U.S. Later today I will see if I can change my one store back to the older format.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

It does look as if that glitch is happening with just the new stores.

However, I noticed something else and I can't figure out why it is only happening to some people as some of the sellers who are affected have the old store style.

If I click on your view listings on this thread, I am taken to your listings.

If I click on view listings for triber, rose dee, cumos & poco, the page that comes up shown 0 listings on .ca. If I change the page to .com, the listings show up.   If I go into one of those sellers listings on .ca and click on see other items there, the page also comes up blank.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

When I click on ...View listings ....for each seller  in this discussion... I get that seller's listings...

There is also a currency option... on this page .......

available under ...View ..... at the upper right corner of a page

Click on... View... then customize and change prices as they are shown in the list of items in a search .... from US $ to CDN $ and back to US $

Available on all search report pages on eBay.ca

On eBay.com  this same option says convert to US dollars...

If your listing has CDN $ as the currency  this option will change that value to US dollars on eBay.com

This view option means that the currency in the listing can vary.....  but in a search report each currency value become US $ in a search report...on eBay.com

On eBay.ca  all listings will show CDN $ in a search report when this option is used

Click on the following  link  and see how this customization changes the currency seen in a search report.

Most interesting!!

I see everyone's listings now but some of them were definitely not showing up earlier.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

After many tries, I have been able to revert to the old style store, and my store is now showing in US. I really like the new version, but I won't go back to it unless they get the problem with only Can. dollars showing fiixed.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

I took a look at all the store links Pierre mentions in his post above, and today, for me, the storefronts in the old format looked fine ($Cdn on .ca and $US on .com), but the new format stores (Mr. Elmwood and sylviebee) displayed $Cdn on .com on their storefronts.  So it does appear -- at least today -- that it's the new format storefronts that are affected.

I think this could be a real problem where "first glance" American shoppers are concerned.  Even though we all know that the numbers are the equivalent Canadian amount, they are nonetheless bigger numbers.  There goes that "back" button again.

I also looked at the OP's storefront today, on both .ca and .com, and the currency displayed was as it should be ($Cdn on .ca and $US on .com).

However, one interesting aside, and something I had never noticed before: the listings displayed on the OP's storefront page are a completely different mix and in a different order on .ca as compared to .com.  I didn't change any filters or viewing preferences.  Just another eBay mystery I suppose.

Re: Can. Dollar showing on store?

For those that haven't read the weekly board hour session, here is Raphael's answer regarding buyers seeing the store page in Canadian dollars.

New generation Stores pages show items in the local currency to the buyer who views them. So if you're Canadian and look at your own store on eBay.com, you will see CAD prices. However if a US buyer looks at the same store page they will see USD.

No issues at play here, this is working as it is supposed to.

This was all well and good of Raphael to provide us with this information now -- let's see, how many months/years after the new store format was introduced?

He said the "smart currency" view had been there from the start.  It would have been helpful to have had this feature mentioned on eBay's promotional page for the new format (which Raphael provided a link for on Wednesday).  I think it's something store owners would have wanted to know about!

I changed to the new store format months ago, but I only found the listings in C$ last week.

I find that difficult to believe and he might be mistaken. I think that it is more likely that it happened at the same time the Cdn dollar became the listing default. I don't go into a store that often but I'm sure that someone would have noticed it earlier if it had been going on for that long.
