Canada Post Claims and eBay

A little while ago one of the Canada Post Claims Officers informed me that for any eBay transactions we are supposed to let Canada Post know when we open up a claim.

He said the reason for this was because normally Canada Post only pays out our cost value of the item, but for eBay transactions, they reimburse us for the value of the item on eBay.

I gave him the appropriate item #'s and he reimbursed me for the eBay amounts of each of the items.

Since then for any other claims, the officers tend to ignore me mentioning that it's an eBay item and "misplacing" the auction #'s.

I was wondering if everyone else is getting eBay prices on items that they need to open claims for and if anyone else knows whether or not that is the proper policy (or if I was just lucky that day).

Thanks,

Darrell

I only have had one claim - a $40 item shipped airmail to Saudi Arabia. CP refunded the entire selling price plus shipping.

Thats good to hear Ann, I will continue to remind them they are eBay transactions.

Only 1 claim ever? You must be the luckiest online merchant alive!

We too have had good experience, all our claims sofar (3) over the last 2.5 years have been paid fully. Infact on one claim CP paid us more than what the item sold for plus shipping.

Hmmm I wonder if I can reopen all my old claims and ask for a full payout 😉

I will definatly be sure that I am getting the full payout then on these missing Commercial Expedited packages. These claims have been so hard to keep up with we deserve some kind of reward!

CP is asking me for proof of purchase. How does consignment stores offer proof of purchase? What if the item was a sewing machine from the early 1900's What happens then?

Consignment? You can buy it from your customer. Get your customer to give you a purchase invoice.

Often for antiques they ask for appraisal info from insurance to prove the value of the item.
