Canada Post Tracking Info & Shipping Times - Minimal Improvements

Just spent a few minutes entering tracking numbers from recent shipments to see if there has been the promised improvements in tracking & shipping times (for the increased prices we have all incurred).

Here are a few that caught my eye today, and I know that the price increases & promised improvements were for Xpresspost USA and Expedited USA, but I just thought I would share a few of these today, Oct 13 (this is what your customers see when they try to track a package):

- NL, Can- Shipped Oct 7, Expedited.
Tracking info only says "Item processed at Postal Facility Mississauga Ont."

- NB, Can- Shipped Oct 7, Expedited.
Tracking info only says "Item processed at Postal Facility Mississauga Ont."

- Cali,USA-Shipped Oct 4, Small Packets (I know there's no tracking, but your customer thinks so!)
Online, it shows that it was shipped by USA Letterpost, and the only info showing is "Order info received by Canada Post"

- France -Shipped Oct.4, Expedited - only shows day of order submitted and "Item processed in Postal Facility in Whitehorse"

-Spain - Shipped Oct 5, Small Packets Air - shows that it was shipped Int'l Letterpost and only says "Order info received by CP Oct 5."

- Most Expedited USA packages that I see still only show major updates after the package has already arrived at its destination postal facility, with no step by step tracking updates along the way (so I didn't post any of those).

Just thought I'd share a few of those (too much time on my hands this morning!)...So overall, I have been finding Canadian shipments from coast to coast seem to be delivering in good time - 3 to 9 bus. days on average, and the US shipments time frames have improved only marginally. (But I have received way less "where is my package" emails the last few months, so maybe that's a good sign).

So for US shipments, we are paying a 20% increase for CP services on Xpresspost USA and Expedted USA, and the service enhancements were to include, among other things, greater delivery speed, improved on-time delivery performance, and better tracking.

As per eBay's announcement from August, the rate increase is taking place in 2 phases:

Prices increased approx. 12 per cent beginning August 23, 2010
The remaining price increase will take effect on January 17, 2011.

And they say "Please make sure your shipping costs reflect the new Canada Post rates, effective August 23, 2010. We have updated the rates in the shipping calculator and eBay/PayPal online shipping tool." (Yet they really seem to be pushing "Free" shipping lately).

So in summary, has anyone noticed improved services & tracking in Xpresspost USA & Expedited USA or have any thoughts?

Cheers,
AXE

Canada Post Tracking Info & Shipping Times - Minimal Improvements

I randomly picked 2 transactions that I used expedited shipping, one within Canada and the other to the U.S. I use paypal shipping so I haven't uploaded anything but do have to click on the tracking number in order details and then click on the number again to get the following info.

Axe, I wonder why mine shows so much more info?

Alberta - NY Expedited

2010/10/01 10:23 10128,USA Item successfully delivered
06:16 10022,USA Item has been received at the delivery office in the destination country
2010/09/28 22:30 International shipment has arrived in the destination country
22:06 International item arrived in destination country
05:29 International item has left Canada
2010/09/26 21:28 MISSISSAUGA Item processed at postal facility
2010/09/23 22:45 CALGARY Item processed at postal facility

Alberta to Quebec Expedited

2010/10/12
AM STE-EULALIE Item successfully delivered
08:38 STE-EULALIE Item out for delivery
2010/10/07 03:32 MISSISSAUGA Item processed at postal facility
2010/10/04 22:28 CALGARY Item processed at postal facility

Both parcels were delivered on the 6th business day. For the package to NY, that is better then the 2-3 weeks that it has taken in the past although I still think that the cost is expensive.

It's odd that both packages took the same amount of time considering one did not have to go through customs.

They show that much more info, because they have already been successfully delivered. Thats when the bulk of the info appears online. Thats what I'm saying, tracking should simply be just that- Currently there is very little info provided for customers to track the package along the way, which is what they want. Getting all that info after it already arrived is of no use to the customer or anybody for that matter.

Thanks Axe, I guess I haven't paid much attention to it. I always thought that the info was added as the package went along, not all at the end.

I buy regularly from a Canadian supplier who ships to me via CP Expedited. I can always track the package progress in stages on the CP website.
If you cannot see it moving, there is probably a problem.

With US deliveries, I suspect you will get more up-to-date info on the USPS website. I think there is some delay in USPS sending the updates to CP.
