Canada post insurrance overcharged

When using the print shipping label feature for regular parcel from canada to canada, the insurance isn't properly calculated.

An 100$ is supported to be included, yet about 2$ is added when trying to insurre an 15$ item.

There should be no overcharge, since it is well within the included coverage.

Which shipping method were you using?

Re: Canada post insurrance overcharged

If you purchase Regular Parcel at the Post Office, insurance is not included. The Canada Post find-a-Rate web page will show no insurance included.

If you purchase Regular Parcel using PayPal shipping labels, then $100 insurance is included in the shipping cost. However, it makes no sense to use Regular Parcel with PayPal shipping since you can use Expedited Parcel which has insurance included and gets an 18% PayPal shipping discount over Regular Parcel.

Are you using PayPal or going to the post office?

PS If you want to go to the post office and not use PayPal shipping labels, then you should get a Canada Post Venture One card with a 5% discount and it allows you to use Expedited Parcel within Canada and get the $100 insurance included saving $2 as well as 5% over Regular Parcel.

Re: Canada post insurrance overcharged

I'm using paypal shipping as much as I can.

In this case, I use Ship-in-a-click from CanadaPost.  It does have a 100$ coverage for regular parcel.

Further more, paypal shipping does say that it has a 100$ coverage for regular parcel which it does not properly calculate.

I was not aware of the 18% discount on expedited.  Which is significant enough to make it cheaper.

I should be identified somewhere when you make your auction.

Re: Canada post insurrance overcharged

According to Canada Post, there is a charge for any amount of insurance when sending by regular parcel.

http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/productsservices/send/parcels.jsf

But it does look like you found a new glitch in Paypal shipping. I just tried a few scenarios and when I input the information for a regular parcel and specify a dollar value of under $100 for the package, there is a $1.95 insurance charge. This happens whether you check yes or no for the 'Purchase Additonal Insurance' option. During the label process, page 2 on paypal does state that there is up to $100 in insurance although according to the CP site, that is not true so I think that Paypal has made a mistake in stating that it was included.

Scenario 2 - When I specified a dollar value of more than $100 for a regular parcel and did not ask to purchase additional insurance, there was no charge for any insurance. If that same amount was entered and yes, purchase additional insurance was checked off, the charge is $3.90 - $1.95 for the first hundred and $1.95 for the second hundred.

The whole regular parcel thing on Paypal is very goofy.

So much easier to simply lick stamps on the parcel! Smiley Happy

Hi spaceharfang,

Thanks for flagging - it looks like this is actually charging correctly, as Regular Parcels are charged $1.95 per $100: https://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/prices/SBcanada-e-01.pdf Whereas other services like Priority, Xpresspost & Expedited still offer free coverage up to $100. As per the mentioned PDF, it looks like this was effective as of May 26, 2013.

We are working on updating the messaging on the PayPal Confirm and Purchase Your Shipping Label page to remove the 'Included Insurance Coverage Value: Up to $100.00 CAD' note.

Thanks,
