Canada versus US DSR Shipping Rating

I am finding DSR shipping rating for Canada is somewhat skewed. The majority of my shipping is to the US, whereby USPS is substantially cheaper than Canada Post. Thus, the US Buyer will never rate my shipping costs reasonably, since the postal costs are cheaper in the customers host country. Does ebay factor in the variance in shipping costs between countries when creating shipping DSR, or is it simply a weighted average based on everyone's responses? Does anyone else have any feedback on how to get a DSR shipping rating close to 5, without giving away free shipping?

" the US Buyer will never rate my shipping costs reasonably"

Let's be honest. Buyers anywhere in the world, including the USA, do not care what your shipping costs are. It is none of their business.

On eBay, you compete globally. Whether you ship from Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom or Germany, the buyer only concern is "how much does it cost me"?

And they rate sellers accordingly. If they can purchase an item from seller A with a $5 shipping charge and a similar item at a comparable price from seller B with a $10 shipping charge, odds are seller B will receive lower DSRs than seller A.

It has nothing to do with fairness. It is business.

At the end of the day, all Canadian sellers selling outside the country, need to ask themselves : Can I compete in the American (or overseas) market on a "landed cost" basis (including shipping)?

You might want to reevaluate the services that you are using for shipping for some of your items. Any of my jewelry that is under a certain cost and that can be packaged under 2 cm thick is shipped letter mail in Canada and light packet elsewhere and I rarely have a problem.

Put any handling costs into the starting price of the item so that the shipping price is lower. Often I'll even put some of the shipping price into the item starting price to make the shipping price lower. It's all about a buyer's perception.

In Canada and for some heaver and/or more expensive items to the U.S., use expedited, print your labels through paypal and you'll get 25% off of Canada Post regular rates. Pass that savings on to your customers.

Your shipping DSR's aren't that bad so giving your shipping charges a few tweeks might help them as well as increase sales.

Just a few suggestions. 🙂

simplydownsizing I cheched your listing for VINTAGE WEST GERMAN 268-51 FLOOR VASE - 20" - NR where you offer FREE Shipping within Canada and request :

US $150.00 United States Canada Post Small Packets - USA - Air

I suspect the $150.00 charge is a mistake!

Pierre, he has the US and Canada free but then in the next line it states:

US $150.00

N. and S. America, Europe, France, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany

Having North American in there is probably a mistake since the U.S. is in NA but I suspect the OP does want $150 for the other countries. Australia shipping is $250....for a $140 vase.

Australia shipping is $250....for a $140 vase.

That would make the vase about 30 lbs, if I remember correctly.
