we did not have a thread on how CanadaPost sucks on this board in some time
shipment 25lbs from Niagara Falls to Montreal, insurance for $599
CanadaPost Regular Parcel base $17.04 total $32.24, 4 business days
CanadaPost Xpresspost base $19.54 total $32.63, 2 business days
UPS Standard base $9.91 total $15.43, 1 business day
Btw. lately I have received item #110838575137. Seller paid 13 RMB ($2.03) for registered shipment with tracking, signature required. I think we should all complain to Competition Buerau against CanadaPost for gouging Canadians and abusing the monopoly and maintaining treaties that significantly discriminate Canadians. If CanadaPost can deliver the mail from China, that Chinese seller paid for, we should either demand CanadaPost increases their price for ChinaPost or lowers the cost for Canadians.

Btw. the UPS rate quoted above is through e-shipper available to anyone without any volume.

Got the spam from CanadaPost:
CanadaPost offers on-demand parcel pickup for even just one parcel. Whether you need to send one parcel or one hundred, we'll come to you for only $3.50 per pickup, saving you valuable time. And, you can pay for On-Demand Pickup service using your credit card!
Perhaps if they looked down from their high ground, they would learn all couriers provide door-to-door service (even for one parcel), while CanadaPost provides PostOffice-to-door service.

This is the Universal Postal Union.
Under the terms of the treaty, each signator agrees to deliver the mail of all the others.
There is a very elaborate system in place to calculate how much each postal system owes the others based on number and weight of the mail processed.
The high cost of delivering Chinese packages within Canada is offset by the high price of sending international packages to China.
In theory.
And from time to time, the agreements are recalculated and the costs reassessed.
So really, at the moment, China is charging the "right" amount for their international shipping to their citizens. And Canada is charging the "right" amount to our citizens.
The difficulty is that Canada Post (and other First World postal systems) has much higher costs for delivery than China (or India or Singapore or Bangla Desh).

It's offset for CanadaPost bottom line. Basically Canadian shippers are paying for Chinese to send their junk cheaply. And recently I learned the self-sustainability of CanadaPost is a fantasy, since Canadian taxpayer guarantees their workers pension. I wish taxpayers guaranteed my employees pension.
To hell with such treasonous treaty. CanadaPost, revoke the treaty or at least ammend ChinaPost relations. I do not wish to pay Chinese to compete with Canadians.

CanadaPost, revoke the treaty ...
Probably not a good idea if you want to ship to the USA by the Postal Service.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Postal_Union
The UPU has been around for a century and a half just to make sure you can ship to Texas or Shanghai or St Petersburg or Cairo, without having to find US or Chinese, or Russian or Egyptian stamps. Or a friendly sailor or flight attendant going in the right direction.
The rates are renegotiated contstantly and are confirmed quadrennially at the UPU Congress.
