Greetings good people of Ebay.
I'm completely new to Ebay and had had my bids cancelled without cause. The seller claims that because I'm new, I'm being accusing in advance of not paying the bill if I win. I also changed my name the moment I created the account. I could not deal with the unpronounceable name the Ebay default gave me.
I'm an old man and new to this thing. I actually joined to buy from this seller. Now that bridge is burned.
Ebay is supposed to bring buyers and sellers together. The system has clearly failed.
Terms and agreement states it's inappropriate to cancel bids without a valid reason. That's clearly a meaningless statement unless Ebay has the power to prevent it.
Someone suggested to keep trying until I find a "good seller". I have no desire to test the water and be insulted many times before buying something. I came here to buy. Not to be insulted
I'm sure I'm not the first person to find myself in this same situation. I wonder how many new accounts went dormant because of the same thing? I'm certain many members with good money never spoke up and simply went away.
Can someone offer a useful tip on how a new member can buy without the bids being cancelled?
Thanks,

Sorry to hear about this happening. New buyers are usually welcome by most sellers. Don't let this one sellers ruin your ebay experience.

Unfortunatley there are people who do that and there is not much one can do about it but move on and find those that will.
Many on ebay wont restrict people with no or little feedback
I personally dont understand why people have problems with new buyers bidding . I always welcome new bidders. Some now have more feedback and transactions than I have. A number of these folk have become great repeat buyers.
Being new does not mean there will be a problem You cannot tell that way In the yrs I have been selling here I have had very few problems overall When I have Very few of these have been with people with low feedback or transactions but I have also had problems with so called experienced ebayers
To me each transaction has to be dealt with individually and go from there
I was very fortunate when I started here to have a seller that welcomed newbees
I was not signed up on ebay but was searching the site for postcards Found a grouping I really wanted and there was 20 minutes left on the Auction
Signed up for ebay but got a message saying it could take 24 hours for me to be confirmed and allowed to participate
I resigned myself that this auction was not meant to be
Got an email a minute or so before the items ended saying I was confirmed So placed a bid and won the auction with seconds to spare
This was during the time one could list cheques here as a payment option so contacted the seller saying I would send a cheque The seller wrote me welcoming to ebay and said he would contact me as soon as he got it
A week later he wrote me and a week later I had the cards
For those that will restrict buyers there are more that wont
I suggest you look for what you want checking the listings active and ended and check the sellers feedback See if they have ones with low feedback Most likely they dont have a problem with those who are new and go from there

Thanks for your inspiration.
Weavers, you gave me an idea. I wonder if I locate items I want first, then bid at the last moment. Hopefully I can pay for the item with Paypal before anyone can complain or block me. At least until people stop cancelling my bids just because I'm new.
Either that or give up. I wasn't on ebay last week. It's not like I will miss it.
Too bad members have no recourse to sellers that block without a reason. Far too one sided if you ask me.

Why don't you try to buy it now instead of bidding?buy and pay immediately,no sellers will complain,if you do this a couple of times.you will put the sellers at ease if you bid on their items.
