Cancelling and refund question

There is no such thing on ebay as an automatic refund. Did the seller tell you there was? As a buyer, you must NEVER agree to cancel a case until your refund is posted to your paypal account. How much money are you out? I think you're going to have to call ebay Customer Service to plead for assistance with this. Here, we are all just fellow members.

But on ebay's help page it says "If the buyer paid with PayPal:
The buyer's PayPal account is automatically refunded. We then either ask PayPal to remove the refund amount from your PayPal account, place the amount on your seller invoice or charge your payment method on file." It was $30.

That doesn't make sense.

If you paid from your paypal account you should see the money as soon as you have been refunded.

It can take  longer to receive your money if you paid from your bank account or credit card but I think

that you would still be able to see the refund on your paypal history.

As far as a refund being automatic...there might be some processes that do it automatically but often

the seller has to do the refund separately.  I'm not sure what happened in this situation. I would try to contact the

seller and tell him that the refund is not showing in your account.

Do you know which help page you were looking at...can you post the url here?

Some part of this doesn't make sense to me. Was it a Return for an Item Not as Described? Or a refund because the item was faulty? Or did you use an echeck to pay for it?

the seller cancelled it because it was damaged before shipping.

The link you provided is a Help page for sellers. They're supposed to issue a refund to the buyer before sending a Cancel request if an item is found to be damaged prior to shipment. And I think the 'ten days' might be reference to the length of time a buyer is given to respond to a request to cancel.

I think there has been a mix-up.

Did you agree to Cancel before receiving your refund? If the answer is 'yes' then you need to call eBay unless: (a) you used an e-cheque to pay or (b) the seller used bank funds instead of a paypal balance to refund you.

If the seller follows the cancellation process on that page and you paid with paypal you should have been refunded automatically so I'm not sure what to tell you.  Did you receive something from ebay confirming that the transaction was cancelled?  When you go to your purchase history, look at that transaction and hover on the dollar sign on the right. Does it say that you have been refunded?

Once you've cancelled a transaction, it's time to refund the buyer.

If the buyer paid with PayPal:

  • The buyer's PayPal account is automatically refunded. We then either ask PayPal to remove the refund amount from your PayPal account, place the amount on your seller invoice or charge your payment method on file.
