Cross-Border Mailings with USPS

What exactly is "cross-border mailings" via USPS?

I am concerned about the Canada Post strike...what would be the last day to ship items out?  For US and Canada?

Mail destined for outside Canada will probably leave the country safely if it's mailed by Monday. For domestic mail, major centres (Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa) you might also be safe on Monday but for most of the rest of the country today or tomorrow is probably the last really safe day to mail.

Most of Canada can be delivered within six business days, based on my experience. However, that excludes remote or northern locations. I took a parcel to the postal counter the day before yesterday destined for northern Ontario that has a standard of 13 business days, and is due July 8. 

If you have tracking, your buyer may be inclined to wait before filing an Item Not Received case as they can see it has been mailed.

If you're sending lettermail, you're sunk.

As for international or cross-border mailings, yes, most are outside of Canada within the second business day.

And that will greatly depend if they are in slowdown mode prior to the strike or lockout.

Personally, unless you are in dire need of money, is it worth the risk to leave it to the last few days.

Buyers do not care about what the seller situation is and I am not sure Ebay even is as they refuse to answer and questions about refunds and defects in case of a strike or lockout.

A few sales is not worth the risk of INR claims (and tracking will not eliminate that) and/or defects and negs.

Maybe I am old and old school but needless risk in not good for business.
