Hi Everyone,
Well, here I am in Fairy Glen, Saskatchewan and we are preparing to become an island within the next several days as the river is rising. Our home is safe. We are safe. We just will not have a way out or a way in as the river spills around into the lowland in the opposite direction. There will eventually be so much water around that it's like living on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia!
Anyways...keeping one's humor when flooding occurs is so important as is keeping one's humor with Canada Post and Customs. So I wanted to tell you about a funny TRUE story that started back in the fall of 2001.
Our oldest daughter moved to Ottawa as she was hired as an engineer for Excalibur at the time. While there she decided to sell all of her Nintendo Power Magazines. One of the groups she was selling had 50+ magazines in it. A very nice gentleman from the States purchased the magazines, obtained insurance, and Jamie mailed the package off to him.
Two weeks later he contacted Jamie by e-mail and then by phone to let her know that he received an empty box.
Jamie was very upset about this because she had taken it to the post office. It was weighed there and the proper forms were filled out which she had in her possession. She told the buyer to look on the box for the weight, etc. She explained to him that Canada Post would not put that weight on an empty box. He hadn't thought about that but said that there was still a problem...he only received an empty box.
They both came to the same conclusion that perhaps someone took them out of the box while it sat on his front porch which is where his packages were always delivered to and then retaped the box. Jamie told him that if that was the case...it was a very thoughtful thief that did it!
Anyways, Jamie filed a claim with Canada Post and it was paid in a timely manner. Jamie refunded the buyer his money. All was well with the world.
WAIT....THAT'S NOT THE END OF THE STORY!
4 or 5 months later every day when we would go to the post office here in Fairy Glen we found Nintendo Power magazines in our mail box. No wrappers around them...just the magazines! This went on for more than a month. It was hilarious!
Needless to say, we honestly do think that whoever took care of this package going through Customs (remember this would have been after 9/11) opened the package, took out the magazines and either wanted to read them or was just to lazy to put them back and retape the box. To cover their error....or lack of judgment....they just put them in the mail and since each individual magazine had Jamie's original address here in Fairy Glen....they were all returned to us. It was hilarious!
Just some humor to share!
Have a good night!

Outrageously funny 🙂 On one side you wonder how could a government (employee) blatantly violate private property, on other hand you want to give them credit for returning the magazines.

Whats even more outrages is that they had the time to read all those magazines - roflmao.
But then again we are talking about a government employee. 😛

I should mention that we ended up donating all of the magazines to the children's ward of the hospital in Prince Albert.
