December 2nd 2015 Weekly Session

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the weekly chat session. I'll be coming to the thread for most of the day.

Here are the issues I am currently tracking:

  • Missing Tracked Packet International destinations on Calculated Shipping: Austria, Brazil, Italy and South Korea (mjwl2006)
  • Gallery pictures missing from live listings (jt-libra)
  • UPC codes suddenly not recognized on live listings (mjwl2006)

And the issues for which I have had news:

  • SYI form stripping weight value when switching currency - The team is working to figure out a solution to this.

On this one, Dutchman could you contact me in private please?

  • Full shipping FVF charged on combined orders with discounted shipping (dutchman48)

Re: December 2nd 2015 Weekly Session

Good morning.

Has anything been flagged with ebay Canada and delays due to global unrest at UK and European-destination Customs? My tracked outgoing packages are showing unusual patterns, particularly one that has been sitting at Heathrow for six days without movement. If I am anxious, I can only imagine how my buyer feels about it. This is a highly-sough toy at Christmas, and my last one of this character. Canada Post has no insight to share the last time I looked; is ebay getting reports from unhappy buyers and worried sellers? I'm seriously considering moving to only trackable services to trackable international destinations at this point. My next question is then: has ebay worked with paypal to show the additional countries now served by Tracked Packet?

Thank you.

Maureen

Re: December 2nd 2015 Weekly Session

Once again, I find myself firmly sticking my noise in another member's business but ebay is about to lose another 'good' seller due to circumstances with a 'bad' buyer and inappropriate feedback issues. Can you please read this http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/Negative-feedback-from-newbie/td-p/320607and reach out to this member? They are active in the ebay Canada Community and NOT an unreasonable person so if they are fed up to the point they are ready to bolt, this to me illustrates the problem many sellers describe with the culture of selling here now.

Thank you again,

Maureen

Hello. Here is ANOTHER very serious glitch that I just encountered. I 'sold similar' on an ended US$ listing. I did not edit the listing in any way, just resubmitted it. When I went to check it, as I usually do, it had been CONVERTED to CANADIAN DOLLARS!  I did not click on anything in this listing except the submit button. I went back and checked my original listing and it was in US$!! This is one of my best selling items. I have a buy it now listing, but put one up for auction, as well, as I am down to my last few and expect it to be bid up. I almost took a 30% hit, thanks to ebay!

Has anyone else had this happen? And, no, I did not do anything to cause this to happen.

Re: December 2nd 2015 Weekly Session

In regards to the missing gallery photos....

I had 15 gallery photos missing on my listings.  One of the listings was a new one but the rest were old listings with previous sales.  I did not want to lose the boost in Search from the recent sales and therefore was unwilling to end and relist them.

I tried revising and re-uploading the photos with no results.  I even edited the photos in Paint Shop Pro and re-uploaded them to Seller Source Book which hosts my images.  That did not work either.

Out of desperation I finally chose the option of hosting the photos from my own computer and it worked.  All of the gallery photos are back.

Any idea why this would happen?

Thanks.

Good afternoon Raphael.  I brought this same issue up last week, but you weren't able to get to my question before closing the discussion.  I'd like to voice the same concerns as 'mj'.

What I didn't say last week was that I had a valuable (ca. $260 Cdn) item (sent by Tracked Packet) stuck in Austrian Customs for a full 15 days.  I remained in contact with the buyer during that time, but there was absolutely nothing either of us could do about it until the item was released by the customs officials.  Fortunately I had decided at the last minute to pay for a tracked service (out of my own pocket), otherwise this would clearly end up as a "No" answer to the on-time delivery question.

As I mentioned last week, a banner on the FB page would be a great help in instances where a major disruption in an area of the world is reasonably predictable, as this was.  Alternatively, removing the "on-time" question for those areas would be another option.  Can this be done by eBay?

BTW, as 'mj' mentioned, Austria -- one of the new Tracked Packet destinations -- was not on the eBay labeling feature.  I was forced to go to Canada Post's online labeling system, a rather tedious process with a lower discount.  Is there an ETA on when these new TP destinations will be added to the eBay labeling system?

Funny you should mention this, because I had precisely the same issue this week, but it's no glitch -- it's intentional (read on).  Except in my case I didn't happen to notice that the currency had defaulted to $Cdn on the item (I've been selling exclusively in $US for years).  A US buyer made an offer on the item, which I thought was in $US.  After I had already made a counter-offer, assuming it was in $US as always for the past years, I noticed the listing was in $Cdn.  I must apparently have used "Sell Similar" on this item and eBay automatically changed the currency.

Now I have to say I was aware of eBay's having shifted the ground from under our feet by introducing this new currency default in the SYI form, and thought I was catching it in every listing in which I used "Sell Similar", but clearly it's easy enough to miss.

In my case, no wonder the buyer accepted my counter-offer!  He got the item at more than 40% below the going asking price for similar items because my original $US price was already set lower than my U.S. competitors' prices. Moreover, check your shipping pricing.  Mine defaulted to $Cdn, which means I'm losing even more money on shipping than on my already "subsidized" $US prices.

So, sure, if eBay is unilaterally re-listing my items using $Cdn, as they tell me, I'm going to sell, but at 25% or more below my carefully set $US pricing.  Had this been one of my major items, I would have been livid.  As it is, I'm just disgusted with eBay's sneakiness.  I had several watchers on this item and it was unique.  It likely would have sold at or near my original $US price.

So my question to Raphael is this: Will eBay.ca please create a feature whereby Canadian sellers can turn off the automatic currency default?

International returns are a nightmare as explained in this thread

http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/About-Fedex-Returns-to-the-US/m-p/320623#U320623

When will they ever get this whole issue resolved instead of feeding us continual BS on this issue.

I also returned an item to the US and they sent me a US return label from UPS. I had to drive to the US to use it. Great to keep buyers happy, NOT

Re: December 2nd 2015 Weekly Session

ebay.ca Canada listing shipping using Flat Rate is a mess. Incorrect information on Canada Post shipping options.

For example, in the International Shipping, select Flat Rate shipping, select Tracked Packet International. When the listing is live, it shows that Tracked Packet is available for all countries not the 25 or so countries where Canada Post services with this option.

If you select Xpresspost International, or International Parcel Air, it shows for all countries. But Xpresspost and International Parcel Air are mutually exclusive and should not show up together.

This has been like this forever. Calculated shipping does have the exclusions set up properly. Why not Flat Rate?

*Calculated shipping for Tracked Packet still does not have the latest countries that Canada Post added this year. This was mentioned in another post by another member.

Hi Maureen,

As I write this, we haven't been able to observe an abnormal amount of late shipments reported by buyers in the areas impacted by the unrest you reference. We have teams keeping an eye on this.

I know that on the eBay side, we already show the appropriate countries where Tracked Packet is delivered. PayPal and Canada Post/Pitney Bowes would have to work together to implement any missing countries on the PayPal platform, eBay no longer being a participant in that business.

I prefer not discussing issues as specific to someone's account as this one on a public forum, but if pinetreecottage would like to reach me directly via email, I'd be happy to help out as much as I can, at the very least by providing more depth on the circumstances and whatever options are in front of them.

Hello dhslk,

All new listings, including Sell Similar (which are considered to be new listings), have been made to default to CAD since July. This isn't a bug or glitch and will remain this way for the foreseeable future.

With that said, the form is supposed to remove the price amount when Sell Similar is used on a previously USD listing, specifically to avoid this. I have alerted the appropriate team about this.

Hi westernstargifts,

Can you give me 3-4 item numbers where the issue occurred? Even better, if you have any listings with the problem unsolved, I'd like to know which those are. Thanks!

Hi rose-dee,

As I told Maureen, we haven't observed any out-of-the-ordinary delays yet reported by buyers in the affected regions. The delay you experienced with the Austrian customs, however unfortunate, doesn't seem to be related to the situation there. Not saying it isn't for sure, but customs delays happen, they are a part of international trade, and usually buyers on the other side of such delays are used to them and rate sellers accordingly. All the data we have on hand suggests this is the case.

With that said, your recommendations are appreciated and duly noted.

I really wish there was something I could do about this, but eBay has no labels platform for me to update. This is in the PayPal realm and I no longer have the pull to make anything happen there.

Hi dutchman,

The issue described on the thread you linked to seems to be a FedEx error. The FedEx return shipping labels provided by eBay should never incur costs of any kind for the sender or for the recipient.

Similarly, you getting a UPS return label from eBay was definitely an error, this time eBay's. Canadian buyers should never be given return shipping labels other than those we issue from FedEx, and only on escalated eMBG cases.

It doesn't -- I've caught a couple of "Sell Similar" listings that almost went live with the price inserted in the box that defaults to $Cdn.  These were the ones I noticed (unlike the experience I described above, where one crept in unnoticed and was actually sold).

I hope this can be remedied very quickly.  It's more than just an annoyance.

Hi pocomo,

Flat rate shipping will always show whatever service a seller selected to buyers located in whatever countries were selected for that service. There are no rules built into it to block services that don't really ship to certain destinations. Essentially, it would be up to a seller to set it so that they only show the relevant services to the relevant destinations. Calculated shipping was launched specifically to address those sellers who want to show the right shipping services to the right buyers. What I'm saying is, flat rate isn't broken, it is free form and works as it was designed.

As for calculated Tracked Packet, as far as I've been able to observe, eBay shows the service to all the right countries.

Re: December 2nd 2015 Weekly Session

Forgive my intrusion again but Tracked Packet rates still do not reflect the most recently-added for ebay's Calculated Shipping destinations. There are 31 countries now which include USA Australia Belgium Croatia Denmark Estonia Finland France Germany Hong Kong Hungary Ireland Iceland  Latvia Lithuania  Luxembourg Malaysia Malta Netherlands New Zealand Poland PortugalSingapore Spain Sweden Switzerland Turkey and United Kingdom but the ones not being shown rates are still:

Austria
Brazil
Italy
South Korea

Listings show Tracked Packet as an available service but no cost is displayed: it's the 'Contact Seller' message. I want to change all my 870+ listings to ship-to only international destinations being served by trackable services but I am reluctant to do so while there are still holes in coverage. Also, the issue with New Zealand not being included anywhere except by Worldwide Shipping with everything else excluded? No cost associated there, either.

If ebay has no venue by which to lean on Paypal and/or Pitney Bowes to get the lack of Shippable options on printing postage, can you tell us who or where to direct our appeals toward? Paypal Customer Support? Pitney Bowes? If we start to lodge calls to Paypal asking this be addressed, to whom do we speak?

So what are people supposed to do in these situations since they are supplied by Ebay.com where the item is purchased.
