Does anyone else find eBay's security confirmation to be a useless pain?

Hey folks,

Just wondering what your opinion regarding eBay's security confirmation page where you enter a security code when sending messages.

I answer all of my eBay emails through My eBay (alot) and sometimes I find that Im asked to enter these security confirmation numbers 4 or 5 times in a row. And on top of that sometimes they are impossible to read and I need to give them a few tries before I can even send my message!

The funny thing is sometimes I need to do this alot and other times I don't...

Im sure the point of these was to cut down on unsolicited spam, however I've seen a huge increase since they implemented the security confirmation.

Just wondering if everyone else runs into it this often as well or if I might be doing something wrong that keeps causing these to pop up again and again!

Thanks!

Hi all,
I agree with that the numbers are very hard to read, once it took me three tries.

Having said that, I was a victim of a superior phishing scam and the guys actually started to make listings with my username and having the money go to them. It was a real scare. But I called EBay and the issue was fixed within an hour. It was a hassle but I have to say EBay handled it well.

I am very computer literate. Actually a programmer as well. But being busy and doing too many things all at once I got caught by an email. One of those notices notifying you of a purchase. It has a button that asks you to send invoice. You click on it and it takes you to EBay to log in and send the buyer the request for payment. Well this one was perfect! The site was identical to Ebay's. I never noticed until after loging in, it just took me to one of my auctions, but by then they had my Ebay Password. Then in a couple of days they had taken over my account. Luckily I use different passwords for Paypal etc etc. & I now change them often.

I guess the lesson in this that even though it is a hassle it is way better to be safe than sorry. The one thing I learned is to never login to a site that the link to do so was sent to you by email. I don't even open legitimate email messages now I always check first in My Messages to see if its a legit message, And then respond through EBay site. I will respond just hitting reply as well. There the lesson for the day!

weedsellit4u - I know what you mean, as i'm flying through emails I had that happed once, however the person sent the same thing 2 times in a row and I realized at seeing the 2nd one and changed my passwords right away.

However I don't find that the eBay security #'s have anything to do with the situation I mentioned because these phishing emails require you to enter your info right away before responding to a message whereas you are prompter for the irritating security numbers in random hard to read scenarios after you thought you sent your message. Sometime when I am flying through responses quickly as well as soon as the security # page starts to load I think the message has been sent and close the window...poor customer never gets his response.

Glad to know it's not just me getting bombarded by these impossible to read security #'s! Thought I might need to go get my eyes checked....LoL
