Ebay NOT so dot ca!?

I can't begin to express how much this angers me...

Hear I am on "Ebay.ca", you know, the Canadian version?  Sellers from US selling their products on there(which I can't do on their site) and they ONLY SHIP WITHIN US!!!

----> Are you kidding me?

I want an Ebay where when I'm shopping IN my country, sellers SHIP IN MY COUNTRY!  Is that really too much to ask?

"Is that really too much to ask?"

When you browse for products on eBay.ca the search result pages should give you listings available to Canadians.

Do you have a specific example of an item shown on eBay.ca where the seller does not ship to Canada?

Hello 'nbswipers',

<< I want an Ebay where when I'm shopping IN my country, sellers SHIP IN MY COUNTRY!>>

Well then, you shall HAVE ONE. Smiley Very Happy

Whatever you are looking for, type your keywords into the Search bar.

(mostly US, right?)

So then over on the left side of the page, find the Item Location and choose Canada Only.

Hah!

The easiest way to shop is from the View option on the right, be sure you are in List  (rather than Gallery).

And get rid of that Best Match thing from the Sort bar (on the right side).  From the scroll-down menu pick

Time: ending soonest,  or  newly listed,   or even Price + Shipping.

There you have it.  A made-to-order  all-Canadian ebay just for you.

The down side is that you can't save all these criteria and have to keep re-adjusting and re-checking every time

you search.  Ebay is an American company and reaaallly wants you to buy American.  . . .  Ick.

I applaud you for at least trying to keep your Canadian dollars in Canada.  Every little bit helps.

Happy shopping! Smiley Happy

Re: Ebay NOT so dot ca!?

The whole point of making a .ca site is so it is all Canadian listings! I shouldn't have to go here, go there, click this, chose that...  It's DOT CA!

If I wanted products in UK I would choose   DOT UK!   If I want US I would choose  DOT COM!

Why is that so complicated?  I don't want to shop at the EBAY.COM site and I shouldn't HAVE to change my search criteria when I chose EBAY.CA! (aka Canada)

Re: Ebay NOT so dot ca!?

Sellers from US selling their products on there(which I can't do on their site)

Of course you can.

All you have to do is give a cost of shipping to the USA.

Even your asking price in CDN dollars will be shown on the US site in US dollars.

I commonly list certain items on the US site, although most of my listings are here to take advantage of the Canada Post Calculated Shipping service.

You can list on dotCOM by changing the address in the URL, listing as usual, and using Flat Rate Shipping. K5g3GuzDZFSNqQnZ_tLo9tMPc3fDuWHfY_eiYIIHLYeIGF1etT8741wigPlAFwtVSm8=w300.png

Re: Ebay NOT so dot ca!?

If ebay.ca only had listings from Canadian sellers, I suspect that many Canadians would shop on .com because they want to see what is available in the U.S. and other parts of the world.  Canadian sellers only would also make it fairly small site.

Well, no.

The point of a dotCA site is so that Canadian sellers can set up shipping using Canada Post (and UPSCanada) shipping rates.

For sellers this is the great advantage, especially for sellers like you who are selling bulky items that must go by parcel rates.

Parcels (including Regular, ExpressPost,Expedited, and Priority) are priced differently for Regional  and National rates. I understand there is also a rate for isolated and northern communities.

For Canadian buyers, the site shows items that are available to Canadians.

DotCA also shows the prices on such items in loonies, no matter what the national currency of the seller might be. You may be buying from someone who lists in euros, in rupees, in yen, in yuan, or Australian/US/Jamaican dollars. You will see the price translated into Canadian dollars.

You can't always get what you want, but you might get what you need. -- Sir Michael Jagger

Re: Ebay NOT so dot ca!?

What search words are you using?

That listing shows up if I use the number to look for it but I've tried using a number of different search words and

the listings isn't showing up at all on .ca.

HelloHello,
Not sure how I originally got to where I got to (was all over the place looking for this particular item); anyway, I eventually ended up on ebay.ca and was going to purchase until I noticed that the seller does not show Canada as a shipping to location.  If you just type the item #171705462060 in Google search window, this is what I get (see attached).  I had previously supplied a print screen showing ebay.ca in the address window.  I do not see why no one else can see this seller on ebay.ca.

As far as I know, the only way one can get a "Does not/may not ship to Canada" item to come up in a search on eBay.ca is to search by item number.  This is why you were asked how you came across the item in the first place, so that we may be able to replicate the circumstances that led to you the item originally.  Does your browser history yield any clues?

Any ebay item should be able to be brought up on the various sites by keying the item number. This is what you would want to happen as you want the database(s) to see all listings and filtered based on criteria such as shipping locations. Unfortunately that means google indexes the pages and you will potentially get some issues like this where the buyer finds the listing via google using related keywords.

In terms of site behavior this is currently setup as you would want it. A listing is filtered from any category and searches on any ebay country site where no shipping is setup for that item to that country location. You wouldn't want to block the item records themselves since the shipping destination and rate (or willing to ship to set) is the determining factor. Most of the country sites have a filtering option for items located in the domestic country if the buyer wants to filter products outside of their own country.
