This is the first time I have seen this. Has anyone seen this before?

This is for a book I sold earlier this afternoon. I was curious why the buyer didn't pay immediately (I don't have IPR set but most of my buyers do pay right away for these books) so I sent an invoice as perhaps that's what the buyer was waiting for. After I sent the invoice, I checked Order Details and I saw this "This order was not successful. Payment for this order has failed." (see attached image please)... The buyer is from a Germany and has been shopping on eBay since May this year so they do have a little bit of buying experience. Personally with my listings I state I expect payments within 7 days so I don't want to go bug the buyer about it when I've just sent an invoice a hour ago. I'm just curious if they've actually tried to pay but somehow payment didn't go through? I have had quite a few Germany buyers without issues.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

If you log into PayPal does it show you any information there?

I can't explain the reason this happened but I do know German banks have a different way of dealing with paypal than most places, and that is that you have to deposit money into your paypal account from your bank before you use it, not afterwards like the rest of us tend to do.

The only time I ever had a payment fail, it was a buyer from Germany and it was due to him transferring money to shop into paypal but before it cleared. The result was a big rigamarole.

You will have to contact your buyer and ask them to try again in a few days, or see if they maybe overspent and just want to cancel.

Hey this explains something, I always wondered why many times the folks from Germany have a few days gap between buying and paying via PAYPAL....

Just checked paypal and nothing there... I'm gonna give it a couple more days and message the buyer and ask. I don't want to file an unpaid case if the buyer did intend tried to pay but somehow failed.
